How To Come Up With Lateral PPC Keywords

A reader wrote in last week with the following question…


I’m starting ppc marketing and have hit a brick wall. How do you build on top of your main keywords? I have got about 20 and can’t think of any more. That’s never going to take my business to the next level.”

It’s a great question and one I hear over and over again from marketers entering the ppc battlefield.

The cool part is that 20 keywords could easily make you $20,000/mo. In fact, I have a friend who is consistantly doing $25,000/mo from 4 keywords. πŸ™‚

But it’s near impossible to do this from a standing start. You will have to build a bigger list and find what’s working for you.

I Feel Your Pain

I too, when starting ppc, hit the very same wall. My first training taught me to open an excel spreadsheet and list as many keywords related to my product as I could. I think I got around 12 and seriously thought there were actually NO MORE. πŸ˜‰

More Pain

How To Advertise A Replicated Site

I’m not sure about you, but I associate replicated pages with spammers, newbies and those who lack creativity.

This guy pops up on Facebook chat the other day…full of enthusiasm he says, “Ewan, how’s business going?” and in the next split second I replied.

BOOM! And back he came with,

“…you should take a look at this,” and a link…


I mean, by asking one lousy question, do you really think this will make me buy from you or join your team?

Most of the time I ignore things like this, but every now and again I’m in the mood to try and save these people. I replied, “dude, you’re not making many sales are you?”

I felt his enthusiasm turn into heartache and after a few back and forths he asked me…

“So How Do I Advertise My Replicated Website?”

Uhm, you don’t πŸ˜‰ well, not upfront anyway!

The Problem With Replicated Sites

Okay, where do I start…

Problem 1

They all look the same. How do you stamp your authority, or set yourself apart, when you are shoving the same link in people’s faces that thousands of others are too? You look the same as EVERYBODY else. You need to be unique in the market place. To top it all off, this strategy is usually extremely ineffective as well.

Problem 2

Replicated sites tend to focus on the company and how awesome they are. Your potential customers are looking to have a problem they are suffering from solved! Who cares if a company has its headquarters in a gazillion square feet next to Dave’s Ice Cream Parlour on the sunny coast of M.I.S.S.I.S.S.I.P.P.I. (now close your eyes and spell it backwards). πŸ˜‰

Problem 3

I have seen first hand how using these sites can damage your reputation and your business. If you generate leads within a company’s generic system, some so-called leaders have access to them and have been known to ‘steal leads’ from unsuspecting victims. I have also seen the unique link not work correctly. After you’ve done all the hard work, and made a sale, the commission goes to another *ahem* entrepreneur.

Problem 4

What happens if the company goes out of business? You’re left with nothing. No income, no websites, no ‘system’ which you relied on so heavily, and no business.

But It’s Not All Doom And Gloom

Listen, Network Marketing and Affiliate marketing can provide incomes like politicians can provide bull-poo…

…IF, you do it right. πŸ™‚

If you’re to survive on the Internet, your business needs 2 things:

  • A Website
  • Somewhere to store data you collect, i.e. email address, etc.

Oh, and something to sell. πŸ™‚

Any advertising you do should lead to YOUR website. Any emails you collect go to YOUR list. Then you market what you have to sell to YOUR list.


You market a home business, collect leads through your website, THEN you use the company’s sign up page for new people to join your team. Because the lead went through your own funnel you have more than likely earned trust and respect from this person; the selling part becomes easy. πŸ™‚

D’ya follow? Now you’re bullet-proof.

This way, once you have made the sale, you can market over and over to the same people as long as they remain on your list.

Do Guaranteed Traffic Sites Really Work?

Hey, sure, guaranteed traffic sites work. They get you traffic and may even result in the odd sale or sign-up, but it’s a strategy for the lazy who are desperate for leads. They really can’t be bothered building a real business, so they look for the ‘quick fix’ type of marketing. πŸ™‚

Here’s The Problem With Guaranteed Traffic

These offers are downright scams and these companies deliver bogus traffic in many different ways. Some companies will simply use “bots” that constantly visit your website until it reaches the hits they promise. Many customers report when they analyzed their traffic logs they received all the traffic from one IP address.

Paying for raw traffic like this is a waste of money. Most “guaranteed traffic” services use pop-unders which may cause your domain to become flagged by some anti-adware/security software programs. Additionally, don’t be misled by claims from some “guaranteed traffic” companies that they can deliver targeted traffic. They are still presenting your web site to people who DID NOT ask for it.

They Play On Your Emotion

You need traffic so bad you will do anything to get it. I remember it well, selling your own grandmother for some traffic action seemed like a viable option. πŸ™‚

So you agree to pay a company $0.01, or sometimes $0.02, per person they can get to your website.


The people these traffic scams are getting to click on your link are not people who really care about your business. They are people who are getting paid to click on your site.

Yes, these sites offer to split YOUR money with the person who clicks on your link.

If you still think it sounds like a good deal then by all means go and test it, but start really small.

Become A Real Entrepreneur

I’d say this is your best option. Put everything in place you need to run a real business. Learn how to generate traffic that converts to sales.

What Should I Write About?

Absolutely anything! You’re only limited by your imagination. My buddy made sales from an email he wrote about toilet roll!

When you come up with ideas, figure out how you can turn them into a story and link it to your business. I suggest you spend most of your time doing such things rather than all sorts of crap like commenting on other peoples blogs, etc.

Words To Ponder

When I write, I want my finished article to do one of the following for my reader…

  • Educate
  • Entertain
  • Intrigue

Dude, seriously, if you make your readers laugh they will love you! Get passionate and write about interesting stuff. Forget the usual shitty posts about ‘how to make money online’.

How to Create a Good Selling Page

Almost every page you create, whether it be a landing page, an article or an actual sales page is designed with one goal in mind…

…To Sell!

Not always a monetary sale but still a sale of sorts.

Remember dot to dot? I loved it as a kid. Each dot had a number (e.g. 1 – 50). Starting at 1, you joined up all the dots in sequence and when you reached 50 you were left with the desired outcome; in this case a picture. A good selling page is similar with the desired outcome being a sale.

You write an ad which sells the click and your landing page sells the optin. All through the sales process you are marketing the idea that YOU have the solution to a problem your audience is facing.

The following 3 steps almost always ensure the user will be bashing their ‘left click’ on top of your ‘add to cart’ button!

Stir Up Emotion

Most people will do waaaay more to avoid pain than to gain pleasure right? What problems do your potential customers face? Remind them over and over of their pain and their obstacles to achieving success. Are they up all night with money worries? Are they never at home to see their kids? Bring those feelings right to the hot-seat. They may even weep a little but who cares…you’re going to be their hero. πŸ˜‰

Answer Their Questions

As they read through your sales page, questions will pop into their head. It’s important for you to anticipate and answer these as you go. You will then overcome any objections and gain the rock solid trust you must have in order for them to punch in their credit card details.

Tell Them What To Do

Sounds obvious right? But you would be amazed by the amount of marketers who do not have a call to action.

It all starts from the people you attract to your sales page though. When you target people who desire what you have to offer, writing a sales page is like taking candy from a baby. πŸ™‚

How To Create An Effective Ad With Facebook PPC

Writing an effective PPC ad requires the following:

  • Speak to the right audience
  • Choose an image which stands out from the crowd
  • Tease them with a solution to their problem

A reader wrote in with the following question:

“Ewan, I have tried to use FB PPC for six months now. All the ads I write either get rejected or, when they are approved, get very low click through unless I’m willing to bid $5 per click. I can’t afford to spend this much, especially since so many people click my ads out of curiosity and don’t sign up to my mailing list. I’ve lost a lot of money on FB advertising and I really can’t afford to lose any more. What pointers can you give me to get my ads approved and to keep my costs down while getting a lot of leads?” Notice the question plays on emotions big time? Now you respond by telling them…

First off, the reason your ads aren’t being approved is because they are violating Facebook’s guidelines. FB doesn’t like ads which over-sell and under-deliver. Also, it’s always good to be extremely clear about what you plan to do with the users details (e.g. email address) after you capture it.

Your click through rate has more to do with the quality of your ad. Poor ad = not too many people clicking it.

Grab Attention, Get Naked πŸ˜‰

What most don’t know is the image is what attracts the most attention. The way to get eyeballs on your ad is to pick a strange image which is different from those around it.

Imagine walking through your local shopping centre, lots of people everywhere, all looking a little different but pretty similar. You are naked, holding your iPhone in one hand and your shopping basket in the other.

Reckon you’re gonna get some attention? πŸ˜‰

Check out the competition and see what they’re doing then do the exact opposite. If they use coloured images, use black and white. If they use a photo, use a cartoon. You follow? πŸ˜‰

There are lots of ways to createΒ advertisementsΒ which get attention but the most effective ads elicit an emotional response. How To Create Screen Recording Videos For YouTube

Video is a great way to get your message across, establish yourself as a trusted authority in your chosen field, and build an audience through entertainment and education.

I remember the day I came across the concept of recording what I was doing on my screen, I can only liken it to how Jack and Jill felt when water became available directly to their kitchen sink, and they no longer had to go up that damn hill.

Screen captures are easy and extremely powerful for a business or entrepreneur. It removes so many problems you will encounter filming yourself, such as…

  • how you look
  • fluffing your lines
  • shooting a perfect video and realising you have left out a major point or a stroke of comic genius πŸ™‚
  • finding the right backdrop
  • lighting
  • sound (just as you’re finishing your video, someone starts a lawn mower)
  • your eyes glancing to see your notes

I’m a visual learner and I believe if your video is teaching a lesson, it’s gonna be waaaay more effective if people can watch what you’re doing rather than listening to you explain. When I’m personally trying to figure out a new skill, YouTube is my first call, as I can pause the video as I implement the steps being shown.

Before we move on to how to create killer screen capture videos and what tools I like to use, it is extremely important to remember that when creating videos, the #1 rule is to educate or entertain. Think outside the box in terms of creativity, and how to deliver your content so as to put a smile on the face of your viewer.

Once you have your video idea, conduct some research and see what’s already out there. Do a YouTube and a Google search. See what you like and what you dislike. it may also spark even more creative genius πŸ˜‰

My personal favourites for recording is Camtasia (30 day free trial) and Jing Project. There are many others and a quick google search of ‘screen recording software’ would reveal their identity.

Camtasia lets you record the whole screen or a part of the screen. You also have the ability to edit your video, add music and merge various different clips into one video. Once you are happy with your final draft, produce the video and save it to a folder in your computer then upload from YouTube.

Jing only lets you record video up to 5 minutes long. (I believe you should, where possible, keep your videos under 5 minutes, ideally 3. I use Jing for all my video recording unless it requires more than 5 minutes). Again, you have the option to save to a folder in your computer and then upload from YouTube, or you can hit the YouTube button and it uploads directly from Jing. You will probably then want to edit the information on your video, i.e. the title, description and tags within YouTube.

There are 2 types of content you would use the screen recording format for:

  • demonstration, or a how to
  • deliver a message

If you were going to record a demonstration of how to add a picture to your website… this would entail you recording the screen while doing the actual task. Because you’re actually doing it live, and you presumably know what you’re doing, chances of fluffing your lines are greatly reduced. I would however have a few run throughs off camera and maybe have some notes in bullet point form by your computer just to make sure.

If I were delivering a message, say for example, “why most people make zero bucks online,” then I would weave my message through a story. First I would create my story on a powerpoint slideshow and record myself reading through the presentation. Again, this should eliminate fluffing of lines and forgetting of major points. Have a few run throughs with this format also to get in flow.

One of my favourite hobbies is to create landing pages.

It’s fun because this is where the ‘money getting process’ starts.

Don’t Be Scared!

There are a lot of different tools and website builders. They provide pretty good tutorial videos but it can be scary with coding, HTML, and stuff that makes no sense to normal human beings. It put me off for a long time. Then I finally decided to just dive in. I spent day’s upon days learning, fiddling around with little bits of HTML code.

But what I should have been focused upon is marketing to generate leads. Because alas, after all that time, I grew frustrated and gave up.

You Don’t Need To Learn HTML

A friend of mine built a pretty sleek website and said she used a website builder called Bluevoda. It requires no knowledge of HTML. It’s like using Microsoft Word.

Very easy, and the finished product looks awesome! It’s been my website builder of choice ever since.

Now That You’re Ready To Build

Anybody can create a landing page, but creating one that does what you want it to do is a skill. A valuable skill πŸ™‚

Knowing what you want it to do is key.

You may think that sounds silly. We know what you want it to do – convert visitors to leads, right? And that is ALL you want it to do! Lots of marketers get this bit wrong. They cram so much information into their landing page that the visitor gets confused, runs away, and keeps their coins with them.

Your page only needs 3 working parts

  1. Bad-ass headline (grabs the attention of the visitor)
  2. Teaser copy (a little taste of how you are about to solve their problem)
  3. Optin form

In fact, the simpler your page is the higher it tends to convert.

How Does PPC Tracking Work?

Pay Per Click (ppc) tracking is essential to any campaign if it’s to be successful. Most of the ppc platforms themselves have decent tracking facilities but there are also external tools, such as Google Analytics, you can use.

Get this wrong and you will LOSE a ton of money; believe me. πŸ˜‰

It’s important to track everything. The two most important numbers are CTR (click through rate) and sales.

CTR determines how successful your ad is at pulling customers into your site while sales, quite obviously, show you how well you convert visitors to buyers.

So How Does PPC Tracking Work?

Impressions, CTR and CPC (cost per click) are measured inside the ppc platform.

Conversion tracking can be done within most search marketing services or you can use other available software.

For example, tracking inside Google involves placing a cookie on a user’s computer when they click on an ad. If the user clicks on your Google PPC ad, and reaches one of your conversion pages, their browser sends a cookie to the Google server. Then a small conversion tracking image is displayed on your site. When such a match is made, Google records a successful conversion for you.

The ability to see the performance of each keyword is also crucial. This is achieved by producing and closely analysing 2 reports…

Your sales report (from your web analytics tool). In addition, you can tag the keyword destination URL in order to gather even more accurate data. There are other methods which can be used but these are the basics. With this info you can tweak your campaign and target/add converting keywords to your list.

Yes I know,

for the beginner, on the outside looking in, it can seem an extremely complicated process and when you don’t understand it, it is! I have seen countless newbies lured in by the instant traffic and shiny $$$ signs. In their excitement, and without proper understanding, they either don’t get the steps correct or they miss them altogether!

I knew this kid who…

was desperate for leads and didn’t want to spend money to learn. C’mon, that’s a waste of your ad budget right? πŸ™‚ Anyway, he set up his Google account and started driving traffic to his high converting web page; only it didn’t convert very well…

…in fact, it didnt convert at all! The idiot had messed up the tracking code and while he sent a hoard of visitors to his site, over $1000 worth of visitors to be exact, all they got to see was a 404 error!

What A Dumbass, and yes, it was me πŸ˜‰

Do NOT make the same silly mistakes.

PPC is without a doubt the best and fastest way to traffic and sales. That’s all business is, finding people and making sales, agree?

How Much Should I Spend on a Good PPC Campaign?

A reader emailed me recently asking:

‘Ewan, how much should i spend on a good ppc campaign? I have heard some people say you need at least $1000 and others say it doesn’t really matter. I’m looking to start some PPC advertising with the website that you so kindly gave me pointers on. I know you have done some great things with ppc so i was hoping you could shed some light.’

Okay, now that i have stopped blushing πŸ™‚ this is a very good question.

Firstly, you’re going to have to spend some money in order to find out if it is a good campaign. If it’s created properly then there’s a great chance it will be…

…and then once it’s good (good meaning profitable)…

Spend as MUCH MONEY as you possibly can πŸ˜€

But for most, well, it’s not quite so predictable! They fall short when it comes to actually creating a good campaign in the first place. Everything from the very first keyword right to your sales page needs to be optimised.

Start with a small budget

I started with a large budget but am convinced that the more money you have to learn with, the more you will lose. I wish i’d started with very little as it forces you to learn faster. It’s a bit like when you always have tomorrow it’s easier to slack off today, right?

I also wish i had access to the Yaghi Labs Internet Business Academy when i was mastering PPC. I would have been learning from experts and my budget would have gone waaaaaay further. πŸ˜‰

Most ppc students will NEVER find out what it really takes to become a ppc master and create money virtually out of thin air.

once it takes hold they can’t help but watch, in a trance. they sit, mouth open, scared to blink, as you weave words of magic, which, like 100’s of cute little monkies swinging from branch to branch, swing from little hair to little hair, straight into the drums of their ears.

then it takes over…

on auto-pilot, they are straight onto facebook, twitter, texting friend’s at the same time.

what would that do for your business?

the good news is if you do this once, and do it properly, you will probably never need to work another day as long as you live.

the bad news is, it’s not so simple to achieve.

they MUST trigger some kind of emotional response.

but this is STILL not enough.

give ’em something for free!

this can work, it relies on people wanting what you have to offer in order for them to share it, but it’s not true viral marketing in my opinion.

the stuff that goes viral, and i mean really viral, is not incentivized (example coming).

the right description and tags (keywords) are most important…

BS dude!

that’s seo. in no way shape or form are you trying to please the search engines with your content.

make the end user happy. PERIOD! (example coming, i promise) πŸ™‚

so, i think we have it nailed down. we need to make people share something because THEY WANT to share it and no other reason.

how effective is Facebook ppc?

one friday afternoon, i received a commission payment for around $3500. i decided to put the whole lot back to work.

having had a great chat with Jim Yaghi the week before, i was keen to put my new website to work so i punched in my card details and i was all set up for Facebook ads.

i set it live, put my favourite song on YouTube and went to make my afternoon coffee. i may have also had a small cake too, i forget πŸ˜‰

it couldn’t have been more than half an hour… new emails already – lead notifications…

40 within the first hour, over 200 by friday night, wtf?

don’t people have anything better to do on a friday evening? πŸ™‚

anyway, 3 weeks, 3000 leads or so and almost $50,000 later

you ask…

…how effective is Facebook ppc?

i answer, ‘big smiley’ πŸ™‚

with 800 million users, half of which log in daily, you’d be crazy not to want your business in front of them.

but remember…

…it’s easy to blow a ton of money with pay per click marketing…

identify your goals

what is it you are setting out to achieve?

  • grow a fanbase – encourage people to like your page by offering valuable benefits for engaging.
  • drive sales – offer special deals and giveaways in your ad campaign to bring people into your store.
  • build awareness – reach a large audience with a widely targeted ad campaign.

target the right people

this is sooooo important.

you wouldn’t want to sell weight loss products to skinny people right?

think about the profiles of the people you want to reach with your ads, and select criteria based on what your audience is interested in, instead of what they might be looking to buy.

know who your target audience is. you can target by…

  • location, language, education, and work
  • age, gender, birthday, and relationship status
  • likes & interests such as ‘camping’, ‘hiking’, or ‘backpacking’

design your ad

once you know your target audience, design your ad to suit

where are you sending them?

there are arguments both for and against sending your traffic to a facebook fanpage or straight to your own website.

obviously, if you’re trying to grow your fan base then you will want to use a fan page but to drive straight sales, your own website is as good as any.

manage your budget

by setting a low budget you make sure you don’t blow all your money in your first day of the campaign. set it low, test it and if it doesnt work, find out why and fix it. if it works, ramp it up πŸ™‚

review and improve

keep watching your ad, how it converts and if it is achieving what you want it to achieve. by looking at this you will know where changes and improvements are required from ad to sale.

How To Get More PPC Traffic

If you follow the simple steps I’m about to lay out here, you will be able to get yourself as much PPC traffic as you want.

So, how to get more ppc traffic…

Think of it this way, you are walking down an extremely busy street and a shop owner is standing at the door of his shop casting a net and pulling potential customers in. If he wanted to get more people into his shop, I’d tell him, “get a bigger net dude” πŸ˜‰

PPC is like casting the net.

Your net has some pretty cool advantages. You can set it to only pull people in that are already interested in your stuff. So it’s important, when trying to get more ppc traffic that you start with the best possible net. Before we go into casting it, we needa make sure that it’s working.

Weaving a killer net

Getting the best out of anything starts with a solid foundation. You must go after the right people.

Keyword research and selection

If you are already doing some ppc marketing you have probably done this bit but stick with me…

It’s important to keep the keywords in each adgroup, very closely related.

I find this bit sooooo much fun. Take some time out and think about what it is that you offer. Try to think of around 10 keywords and write them down. This is your ‘seed keywords’. Then go to Google’s keyword tool external and enter them in one at a time and run the search, this will give you a ton of keywords and throw up all sorts of new ideas for you.

Writing your ad

Get real creative during the ad writing process. Just because the search engine is showing your ad it DOES NOT mean people will click it.

Offer the user EXACTLY what they are looking for.

Here are some other little tips for ad writing:

  • using the keyword somewhere in the ad or even as a headline can help (the keyword should appear in bold if it’s in the ad).
  • Β ask a question in the ads headline if appropriate or make a cool statement.
  • include a strong call to action so the user is prompted to click your ad.
  • research the keywords you are bidding on. see how the ads look on the page. if the ads use up all their alotted space, write a short one -or vice versa.

Ok, so now that you have maximised potential traffic in what you have running, its time to…

…get a bigger net

With a strong net you can now go and cast it wider in your search for more customers. I must stress however that you must do this step by step. You needa test and watch your live ppc ads like a hawk. Shut down keywords and adgroups that are not working and ramp the up the ones that are. We call this optimising. This is done on a daily basis. Casting your net wider is completely up to you based on your ad budget and how fast you wanna expand.

More keywords

This is your first step in expanding. Search for more related keywords that you want to bid for. Run your ideas through the Google keyword tool. You can also use a mis-spell tool and bid on keywords that have been mis-spelled by the user. These can prove great for ROI, not many advertisers are this savvy and you can often get CPC at a fraction of the cost.

More adgroups

Once you have a new list of potential keywords, group them into new adgroups, remembering to keep them all tight and closely matching. I suggest you use ‘phrase’ and ‘exact’ match and leave out ‘broad’. Include any negative keywords you don’t want to show for, such as free.

You can target more places

I saw a massive rise in traffic when I started advertising in new countries. This may or may not be a strategy you want to use but away from the usual, UK, USA and OZ type countries, competition isn’t so fierce.

Go live on more platforms

There are several PPC platforms you can get your message out on. If you are live on…

  • Google AdWords
  • Facebook PPC
  • Yahoo/Bing network

…then chances are high that you will be getting as much PPC traffic as you can handle πŸ˜‰

spend time researching what potential customers are typing into search engines. that way you can be found when they search for what you offer. then you need to get yourself infront of them so they land on YOUR website and buy YOUR products or services πŸ™‚

did you hear about the dude that built his house on sand? you didn’t? well, it fell over. contrary, the dude that built his house on the rocks, lived there for years

your ppc campaign is gonna be exactly the same. put the foundation in place, build it on the rocks and you are setting yourself up for success

take your time to make a list of keywords you think are relative to what you are offering. you may only come up with one or two. you may come up with 50!

take each keyword and one at a time, run it through Google’s ‘keyword tool external’. this will spit out many more keyword ideas.

if you are relatively new to ppc marketing and conducting keyword research, you may only come up with the obvious keywords, i know i did

and while these keywords will get you a TON of attention…

…it’s not always wise to get pulled into the cat fight

most advertisers in your niche will only be bidding on the obvious and high trafficed keywords but these tend to be high cpc. often is the case, the user is only browsing. before you know it, you’re in a bidding war with marketers who don’t have a clue and on keywords that make zero sales.

when i started on Google AdWords, i didnt have the experience. in fact i shouldn’t even have been allowed on Google. my list of keywords had the usual 10 or so to start with:

‘home business’,
‘internet marketing’,
‘online business’,
‘network marketing’
etcetera etcetera,

i thought i had them all covered, there couldn’t be anymore πŸ˜‰

anyway, cpc was crazy high, i got looaaaadddsa leads but they didnt really convert!

then i heard someone mention…

…buyers v’s lookers

it’s the fastest way to broke!

spending all your money on people looking at your website who don’t wanna buy. i’m not saying we know how to only target people who are gonna buy, although it would be cool πŸ™‚

but if you spend time you can maximise your chances…

…for example

someone searching ‘buy red shoes online’ is a far better bet for a sale than ‘red shoes’

i’m not saying you shouldn’t target lookers, especially if the cpc is cheap… as they may well buy later on but if ya wanna go after the users who are more likely to be in buying mode then you need to…

…learn how to read their minds

anticipate what they will be searching for to find what you offer. there is waaaay more advertisers on Google who don’t have much of a clue what they’re doing than there is who are up to speed.

if you are prepared to learn then you will soon out-smart your competitors.

seriously, it’s so much fun, maybe i just need to get out more πŸ™‚

spend time here, this is where you find the buyers. this is where you find the cheap cpc keywords and the main reasons are…

  • advertisers don’t know how to do it
  • advertisers are too lazy to find out how to do it

do not be one of those two, learn and earn my friend πŸ™‚

search for longer tailed terms.

these get much less traffic but they have much less competition, are cheaper and they are waaaay more likely to buy.

oh, add mis-spells too. these can be killer. just search for ‘keyword misspell generator’

campaign management for ppc marketing is a fancy term for how the account is run. it works by effectively managing the main parts of your ppc account which all work together to achieve the desired outcome. you can do this yourself or pay to have it done by experts. if you choose the latter, do your research before parting with your hard earned $$$.

the 2 secret words to reaching effective campaign management are…

organisation and structure

like DNA, the structure of your ppc account is unique to you and your business. from each campaign right down to the keywords.

how it is structured will be determined by you and the type of business you have.

say for example, you have a sports shop…


you could set a campaign for each type of what ya want to advertise. one for jackets, one for trousers, one for shoes, one for camping, and so on.


then inside each campaign, you have adgroups. so if your campaign was camping, you could have your adgroups for each thing related to camping that you want to advertise. one for North Face sleeping bag. one for thermal sleeping bag, and so on

dya follow? πŸ˜‰


then your keywords are grouped tight for each adgroup, each keyword would be a spin off from the main keyword, such as

  • thermal sleeping bag
  • warm thermal sleeping bag
  • double coated thermal sleeping bag
  • pink fluffy thermal sleeping bag πŸ™‚

each adgroup will have an awesome ad that suits…

  • 500 campaigns
  • 20,000 adgroups per campaign

once you get your account setup and have some ads live, you must watch them like a hawk and be ruthless with what isn’t working. don’t get emotionally attached. it gets deleted πŸ™‚

say for example you are willing to pay $5 for each lead. if the adgroup (display network) or keyword (search network) has reached a little over that cost without generating a lead, it would get killed from the account. there is waaaaay more stuff that WILL work to be wasting your prescious coins on the shhiiyyaatt that doesn’t.

when building a successful campaign, research is king, so its important to take the time and do it right. It’s easy to get carried away and in your hurry to get some new customers, you waste a ton of money.

let’s take an excel spreadsheet and along the top, punch in your main keywords relating to your product or service, taking a seperate column for each. if you only come up with 1 for now, thats ok, once you have one done you can repeat later

getting creative and coming up with keyword ideas that your competitors may not is a key part of getting more impressions, cheaper clicks and ultimately increasing ROI.

get inside the head of your customer. what are they searching for? what about misspelled search terms? πŸ˜‰

enter the magic of Google…

now it’s time to take each of the keyword ideas and enter them into Google’s Keyword Tool External individually. This tool will give you…

  • approximate cost per click
  • competition
  • monthly searches

It’s best if you are signed into your AdWords account as you get better results. You get the option to select which location you see results for, if you plan to advertise in the UK then select UK. You can also check the box so that Google only returns ideas closely related to your search term. I think you should also run the search with the box unchecked as it may throw up some great ideas for other search terms you can build adgroups for.

keeping a tight structured account

if you were running a campaign to advertise sandals, it’s best to include the keyword ‘sandals’ in every search query you want to bid on, for example…

  • strappy sandals
  • loose sandals
  • brown sandals

it’s important to remember the difference between a search and a content campaign.


the keyword works individually as your ad has the chance to appear when the user searches for summin specific. it’s not uncommon for a search ad group to only have a couple keywords in it.


contentΒ is completely different. the keywords work as a group as your ad has the chance to appear on relevant pages of other websites.

target and write your ad

now that your keywords are looking great, its time to target who you are looking for. You can target in various forms, such as…

  • age
  • gender
  • location

it’s important to write an ad that is congruent to what you are offering and attracts the person who is gonna buy your stuff πŸ™‚

set it live and monitor

hit go and watch closely. keywords not performing will need to be deleted and new ideas added in.

when you keep optimising your campaigns, you will find the gold, the ones that work and pump out sales for you all day long πŸ˜‰

How Much To Charge For a PPC Campaign?

There are various ways to charge clients when offering your services to deal with PPC campaigns. It goes without saying that the more work that is involved, the more you are going to charge. You may charge a fee, a $ amount per action or result, an hourly rate or a mix of them. Billing method of choice will depend on your skills and how much you believe in yourself and the ability to get results.

3 in-depth ways to charge for PPC campaigns…

say you wanna charge your clients a flat fee, per month. you will want to charge a one time set-up fee then the monthly fee…

here are some examples of a one time set-up fee

  • PPC setup for a small web site including up to 60 keywords, 10 Ad groups, and 20 adverts = $449 set-up and $100 flat fee
  • PPC setup for medium sized web sites up to 100 keywords, 20 Ad groups, and 40 adverts = $799 set-up and $200 flat fee
  • PPC setup for large and corporate web sites up to 150 keywords, 30 Ad groups, and 100 adverts = $1,299 set-up and $500 flat fee

when deciding upon the monthly fee, you will have to calculate how much of your time will need to be spent. how much do you think your time is worth?

do some research into what your competitors are charging. This will usually range from 5-20% of monthly ad spend.

what about an hourly fee?

charging an hourly fee is probably the most simple. you get paid for the hours you put in. i guess it’s for the ‘play it safe’ type person. I’m not a fan of this method for 2 reasons…

  • there is a limit to the hours you can work
  • companies may not be so keen to out-source to paid by the hour services

if you do choose this method, PPCΒ employees typically make around $45,000 a year plus bonus, so you are looking at around $60,000

the best option?

like, put your money where your mouth is πŸ™‚

i have always liked paid by results!

the better you are, the more you make. people will chase you for your awesome services and you can charge a premium.

take my buddy jim, you may know him as the traffic guy.

he gets RESULTS.

he won’t work with ya if he thinks he can’t…

he could pretty much charge…

whateva the hell he wants πŸ™‚

so, if you’re good and you know you get results…

Now by results, we are speaking about, eyeballs on website! you are the traffic dude, NOT the sales conversion dude.

so i wouldnt enter into an agreement where you are paid a % per sale.


well, you could drive hundreds of thousands of people to the website and your client doesn’t make a sale.

the sales funnel may be flawed.

this is NOT your fault.

i would however, expect you to be telling your client that the landing page or sales funnel needs work, and if you can’t do the work, enlist the help of an expert who can.

so, why not charge a set-up fee plus a $ amount per action? something like per lead generated or per 1000 website visitors?

a ppc landing page is a single page from a website where users land from a search engine after clicking on an ad. the landing page will usually display directed sales copy which is an extension of the advertisement or link that was clicked.

what does it do?

every part of the sales process is about selling the next step. the main job of a landing page is to entice the user to give their contact details in exchange for whatever you have to offer. it may be a free e-book or email series.

once you have captured the email address of the user you can start to build rapport and turn them into a raving fan of your business and loyal repeat customers.

what makes a good ppc landing page?

as i noted above, the main purpose is to get the user to give you their contact details, so the copy on the page should be laid out in a clear and concise manner. the page should leave the user in no doubt what-so-ever as to their next step.

too many websites shoot themselves in the foot by going OTT

they glitz it all up and give waaaaay to many options which does nothing but confuse the user.

from advert to sale, it should be a calculated process.

Getting an endless supply of leads for your business is not as hard as you may think and there are various ways to go about the task. If you were to ask business owners who operated ‘pre-internet’ I am sure they would agree, that in today’s market place, where leads and sales can be generated almost in an instant, there is no reason for your business to be suffering from a lack of potential customers.

when you dangle your offer or product/service in-front of people, if they are interested they will raise their hand to say that they would like more info or that they would like to buy. This is usually by the potential customer giving you their contact details so you can follow up.

Millions upon millions of people charging across it to get to your store. This is a simulation of (pay per click) PPC marketing. It is hands down, the fastest way on the planet to generate new business. Never before has a business had the ability, at the exact second a user is looking for what it has to offer…

“hey, I have what you are looking for, come and get it.”

but it’s easy to mess it up

While it is the fastest, it is also the hardest to learn. You should approach with extreme caution and start with a small budget and test your sales funnel to be sure it converts.

Sure, you can share your stuff there, like ‘how to’ type articles but it’s more for other people to share and pass your stuff around. If you get that right, and people share it, you will get a ton of hot, qualified leads which are as good as buyers…

Even if your business is online, offline marketing is an awesome way to generate interest. I am a great fan of flyers. You can put a sexy offer on a flyer and straight into the hands or the homes of potential customers for VERY little money. Things that ‘engage’ work best, like questionaires, or offer summin for free, maybe a consultation, depending what your business offers, get creative.

cold calling and door to door?

Sure it works, if you wanna do that, go for it. Its not for me!

TV and radio?

I have seen this method generate crazy amounts of interest and its cool if you have a massive budget.

Yea, it’s another great way to generate audience to sell to. It’s a long term thing though but if you have the right type of business it can be a lot of fun.

Lets say you sell make up, you could build a YouTube channel around ‘how to’ do make up.

Lets say you sell holiday packages, you could have fun with blogging about cool holiday destinations.

do people really buy leads?

Yah. I have never done it and never will. How do you know what you are buying? They could be years old and spammed to hell with offer after offer. Lots of these ‘buy hot lead’ deals have only been enticed into the system with sparkly offers, like win a free tv or holiday etc. I’m not saying you cant make it work but in my experience (which is quite vast) it usually ends in a disaster πŸ™‚

This is awesome…

I know I shouldn’t but I’m gonna go ahead and presume your business offer or product/service is badass…

…and you have started to generate some happy customers, word of mouth and referral’s will kick in at some point.

Hell, you can even ask for referrals. You could even incentivise your customers by offering free gifts for introducing their friends and family.

But word of mouth is even better, we call it going viral.

When people WANT to share and will do it gladly, you CANT stop them from sharing, isnt that cool? πŸ™‚

How To Get Clicks To PPC Campaigns

Getting clicks to your PPC campaigns is not difficult to do. All you need to do is choose some keywords, write an attractive ad and be willing to pay what the search engine asks to show your ad in a prime position.

However, getting clicks that lead to conversions and ultimately sales for your business will require complete sales funnel congruence.

By sales funnel I mean from keyword right through to completing the sale.

There are two different types of PPC marketing and you will have to tailor your ad and funnel to suit each.


This is where users go directly to somewhere like or and search for a term. They are generally looking for an answer.

For example, I may type in ‘how to improve my putting’ and I would expect to find information on my question. The first ad I’m gonna click on is the one that best answers my question. When writing your Ad, keep in mind you are answering a user question in real time.


The Google content network is where you would have this type. Facebook Ads is similar. Here you have to grab the attention of users who are looking at relevant content. They may be reading an article on golf and if you sell golf clubs, the platform may show your ad.

Keyword Research

They say it’s important to build your house on solid ground. Choosing correct keywords to show your ads on keeps your campaigns targeted. Making sure your ads only show for people who are likely to be interested in what you have leads to more clicks, less wasted money and more chance of sales.

A great tool to use is Google’s keyword tool external. If you sell ‘red high heels’, type that into the keyword tool. It will give you a list of similar keywords you may wish to target.

Targeting The Right Eyes

You will want to make sure you are targeting the correct type of people. Chances are you won’t want to target males if you are selling high heels. πŸ™‚

You can specify who you want to see your ad using things like country, city, gender, age and interest.

Setting Your Bids

Set yourself a maximum daily budget. Also have a limit for what you are prepared to pay each time someone clicks your ad. You may want to start your campaign off with a slightly higher maximum click cost and bring it down as you improve your CTR (Click-Through-Rate). If your ad stops getting so many impressions, you will want to raise it back up a little.

Writing Your Ad

How do you write a killer ad that makes people click on it?

For search, you need to put yourself in the shoes of the searcher. What are they looking for? Answer that question. Detail a benefit and include a call to action. They will click your ad. If it’s a Facebook ad, you can get a little more creative as you are tryin to grab attention.

The more your ad is clicked, the higher a CTR you will develop. This is one of the ways the PPC platform will deem how popular your ad is. If you give users what they want, you will be more popular and the platforms will want to show your ad as much as possible.

There are two methods you can use

  • AdSense for Content
  • AdSense for Search

AdSense For Content

This lets you display ads on your website which are suited to your audience’s interests. You will earn from valid clicks or impressions. Lets say you blog about holiday destinations Google will display ads relevant to holidays, maybe ads for hotels or flights.

You can also customise such things as the colour, the font and where on your site they display. It can be a text or an image ad.

So, What Is The Google Affiliate Network?

Google Affiliate Network enables publishers to monetize traffic with affiliate ads. This is another way to supplement your earnings from AdSense. It is very similar but the main difference is that you select the product/service that you wish to advertise instead of letting Google show what they think is relevant.

Imagine you blog about golf, you may wish to show ads for a certain set of golf clubs that you highly recommend to your readers.

How to Create a Good PPC Landing Page

Creating a good PPC landing page isn’t as difficult as it may seem. When you follow some basic rules, and mix in your own creativity, you will start to see some great results in your business.

What Is The Purpose Of Your Landing Page?

A landing page is effectively an exchange between you and your potential customer, which should be beneficial to both parties. You promise to give them something in return for their contact details. Typically, you highlight a problem and offer the solution.

Identify The Problem

Offer The Solution

In most cases, this is the sole purpose of a landing page. Remember, you’re giving away some of your hard earned coins each time a user clicks on your ad so it’s pretty important to get it right.

So What Makes A Good PPC Landing Page?

Remember the last time you went to the movies and you saw a trailer for another film that made you turn to your buddy and say…

dude, I really wanna see that film

…well, thats exactly what your landing page should do. When the user arrives it must create that desire, that excitement, by giving a glimpse of what is on the other side without giving the whole film away in the trailer.

We live in an environment where most seek ‘instant gratification’. You want to instill belief that what is on the other side is about to feed the craving for instant gratification. By that I don’t mean just tell them what they want to hear. I’m assuming your offer is awesome and will deliver what it promises :). When you do this, the user will be bashing the keys like a caffeine-fueledΒ ninja to get their email address in before they miss out on what you are offering.

The Components

Keeping your page clean and simple will always convert better. You DO NOT want distractions of any kind. Typically it is best to use black/dark grey copy against a white background, with the header in bold red.

There are 5 main parts…

  • a pre-header
  • a header
  • sub-header
  • the info part
  • the optin form

The pre-header…

This isn’t as important as the other 3. I have seen, and also created, high converting pages both with and without. If you choose to use a pre-header it should be much smaller than the header. I should be a short statement to address the visitor or make a small statement related to what you are about to say to them.

The header…

BOOM, this is where you make your awesome statement that will have them giddy and begging to give you their contact details…and later, some of their coins. It is the most important part of your page. Headers should be ATTENTION GRABBING and larger than all the other copy, usually a bold red colour in a font such as tahoma.

The sub-header…

This is where your bribe or your offer goes. What do they have to do to get the benefit.

The info part…

This is where you put bullet points stating all the benefits to the user if they submit their details. You may also do this by means of a short video.

The optin form…

This is where the user submits their details to get your offer. Name and email is usually enough. The more steps you give the user to complete, the less chance you have of the conversion. I quite often ONLY collect the email address. Include a STRONG call to action here.

Yes, LOTS of People Get It Horribly Wrong

Remember that your page has ONE objective – to get the user to give you their contact details. Do not try to do anything other than this. You are selling the next step, i.e, submit their details, you are not selling products or services at this point. A landing page that has mulitple options, information on the whole company, it’s owners and any other distractions will see your spending money disappear into the hands of PPC platforms with no results to show for it.

Keeping It Legal

At the very least you should have the following pages visble on your landing page…

  • terms and conditions
  • privacy policy
  • contact / customer support

Make sure it’s 100% clear what visitors contact details will be used for.

Oh, The Personal Creativity Part

Don’t get stuck in the gooroo box when creating your pages. You know what I mean. You’re soooo scared to try anything because they didn’t say it was cool. I was in the box for a while and when i jumped out and got creative with my pages, i had my first $50,000 MONTH. well, it was actually $49 and summin k but what’s a few hundred bucks between buddies huh? πŸ˜‰

I think I was one of millions who just got the shock of their lives after reading…

As everyone discussed the result, I couldn’t help but notice the message for home business owners here, screaming at me like an unfed baby.

Manchester Utd’s has had 7 heavy defeats in seasons gone by, yet they have still gone on to win the league. I will put my neck on the line and say that they will probably do the same this season and come May, 2012, they will be lifting the trophy.

This 6-1 defeat will be merely a bump in the road.

They are a team of amazing professionals and the next time they pull on their socks to again grace the turf, that result will be forgotten.

Amateurs let bad results affect their future performance.

Not professionals, 6-1 defeats are a part of playing the game and it’s no different for a home business owner.

Our 6-1 defeats can come in many different forms…

  • a PPC campaign you spend a $1000 on, doesn’t convert
  • Google shuts down your account
  • you spend ages building out a website and it flops

The key is to limit the 6-1 defeats.

The odd one is ok, take it on the chin and learn from it, but if it’s happening every week you have a problem.

When you look around the home business scene, it’s not to hard to see that most people are taking a 6-1 defeat every other week.

How To Do Bid Management

Page May Have Missing Text

Some of the platforms, like Google, let you do it automatically. If you’re about to take your small business onto any of them, chances are you have a relatively small budget, so I’m guessing you will want to spend all of it on actually gaining customers.

PPC or pay-per-click marketing work like an auction. Tens, to hundreds, to thousands of business’s may all be bidding on similar keywords for which they wish to have their ad shown.

Lets take a look at bid management basics

‘Bid’ simply means what you’re willing to pay for every click your ad receives.

First thoughts maybe that the highest bidder wins and while this is somewhat correct, there is much more to it.

Because impressions (impressions are when your ad appears on the page) are free, and you only pay when someone actually clicks your ad, the PPC platforms are taking a gamble by showing ads that have not proved their worth.

Being the highest bidder however, WILL get your ad the chance to prove its worth.

Burning In Your Position

In one of my personal campaigns, I didn’t want to spend more than 70 cents per click, but my starting bid was $1 to get my desired spot straight away before optimising down to 70 cents and below.

It’s like turning up at a party making a whole lot of noise on your way to the dance floor so everyone is watching, and then mesmerising them with your best moves πŸ™‚ but if you flop, they won’t hang around. Just like Google or Bing wont give you their prime spots for very long if your ads don’t perform.

In fact, they are ruthless. If they are showing your ad in a prime position and it’s not being clicked…

  • The end user is not being serviced
  • The PPC platform is not making money

How To Keep That Lucrative Position

If you have written effective ads for the keywords you’re bidding on, it will get clicked, which results in the ad racking up a CTR (click-through-rate). This is a % measurement of how popular the ad is, how many times is it being clicked compared to how many times it’s being shown (impressions).

Bid management strategy

Know how much you are willing to pay per click.

The platform will let you know roughly what it will cost to appear in the desired spots, i.e. the first 5-6. If it’s a keyword you want to bid for, and its in your budget, then you can bid. If it’s not, don’t worry. There are literally thousands more. The exception to this is when there is a keyword you really want rank for, because you know it will bring sales to your business. So you may want to push the boundaries a little to acquire it.

ROI is the desired end result so if you have to pay $10 a click, but make $15 back then you can take that to the bank any day.

Keep in mind, when testing you will have to burn through some money, however, from personal experience, the bigger test budget you have, the more money you will waste.

Follow these steps to minimize wasted ad spend

What should you do when ads don’t perform?

You must be ruthless in killing ads that dont work. Do not get emotionally involved with them. Just as a farmer would get rid of his bull if it didn’t perform. So must you.

Once you set your bid, and make your ad live, watch it like a hawk.  If it costs you the amount you are prepared to spend on aquiring a lead or making a sale, without actually aquiring a lead or making a sale, then you will probably want to kill it. You may want to change the ad and retest. But I am more inclined to kill it, and move on to more keywords. 5% of your ads will be 95% of your results.

As you find those good ads, and they start getting a good CTR, you will find your CPC will start to lower by itself. This is the platform rewarding you. Drop your Maximum CPC down in line with the actual CPC.

When your ad starts getting results

If an ad is getting you results, even if it is a little bit more expensive than your ideal, run with it because you can bring the cost down by optimising your ad and tweaking your offer slightly.

When it’s performing, slice 5 cents off the CPC. Meaning – set your maximum bid 5 cents below the actual CPC, and if it still performs, keep slicing off 5 cents. if it stops performing, raise your maximum bid again.

Is Facebook the same as the other platforms?

Facebook PPC is slightly different. I tested 2 different strategies and found both gave favourable results. Facebook will also tell you how much you should bid, so my first strategy was to bid what they asked and quite often, the actual CPC was no-where near that figure, sometimes less than half.

My second strategy was only to bid a fraction of the suggested bid, around 30%. Then ran it for a few days to look at the performance. Then up the bid to the suggested bid and after a few days, compare results.

The good thing for you is that most people using ppc marketing, are not very good and believe they just need to throw money at it. This strategy soon blows their budget

How To Create An Effective Facebook PPC Ad

I’m sure you would agree that Facebook PPC is an extremely effective way to put your product in front of a massive crowd.

Unless you’re running a brand awareness campaign then the whole point of using Facebook’s Ad platform is to turn a profit.

The term ‘Facebook is the new Google’ is one that has been thrown around a lot recently, and while I agree that Facebook is a great opportunity, it is a completely different horse to ride.

User’s go to Google to get a question answered.Β Facebook user’s are there for social pleasure. They are busy interacting with friends, looking at photos and other things of INTEREST to them.

You can use the user’s interest to your advantage.

While they are happily browsing, if your ad is effective enough, they will view it as an ‘interest’ rather than one of those annoying things down the side πŸ™‚

I have been responsible for writing ads that have pulled in as much as $50,000 in sales so…

Lets look at creating an effective Facebook ad.

I like to keep things simple, so when you have your product, find out who wants it and give them it.Β  Sounds easy right?

How do you find them?

Facebook’s targeting is awesome and you can get really specific on who you want to target from the list below:

  • Location – city or country
  • Demographic – age, gender, marital status
  • Interests
  • Work/Education
  • Connections

For example.

If you were selling wonder slimming pants for women, you would target by gender and age.

If you had an ebook that teaches a better golf swing, you might target by interests and age.

Note that unless I was selling something in a foreign language, I always target English speaking users.

Once you have your product or your offer, and you know who it would appeal to, you need to create the ad.

The ad is broken up into 3 parts.

  1. Your Headline
  2. Your Picture
  3. Your Ad copy

It is important to write your ad in a way that would appeal to the type of the audience you plan to advertise to.

Lets pull apart an ad that I used some months back which was extremely effective. I was targeting people who are struggling in MLM. Remember I said, I like to keep things simple, well my headline was…

Struggling in MLM?

I always like to ask a question where possible. It is human nature that the mind will want to answer it. If they are struggling in MLM then chances are their eyeballs will be drawn to it.

Next up is the picture. Facebook can be pretty strict with what you use. They say it has to accurately reflect your ad/product. So if you are selling shoes and you insert a picture of a banana, then they will most likely disapprove it.

Here is the picture I inserted into my ad

I went with the monkey for 2 reasons.

  1. It’s a little different and eye catching
  2. He also looks like he is thinking something over, exactly what I wanted the user to do.

Last, but by no means least, is your ad copy. After you have grabbed the attention of the user, here is where you are going to completely sell them on clicking your ad. So my ad copy went like this…

So I think it’s fair to say, this ad is extremely effective for targeting my customer type. I touched on their pain and let them know that I can help and also ended the ad with a call to action

You will also have to choose the destination of your potential customer. You can send them to your own website or a fanpage inside Facebook. Personally, I had best results with sending them to my own website but either way is good. Wherever you send them, make sure its congruent with what you are offering, if they click on an ad that is offering a bacon sandwich, it’s because they want a bacon sandwich πŸ™‚

Another thing to consider, make sure you test small, set a low daily budget, once you know your ad converts, ramp up the ad spend.

I hate this group, they are all s**t, i just wanna coach the good ones who can play

that was a quote from one of my colleagues, sometime around 2004 when i was a football coach. its a few years back now so it may not be exact, but it was words to that effect. it was quite common for coaches to think like that and i have to admit it was waaay easier to coach the kids who were pretty good

Now, when i say easier, i mean they picked up new things faster

i dont wanna blow my own trumpet, infact, wait….. yes i do πŸ™‚ i was pretty good at coaching the players who were not so good, parents would often come up and say, you are so good with the kids, i just put it down to patience and the fact i was am, a big kid myself

a conversation i had with one of the other coaches whom i had a lot of respect for, made it clear in my mind why i didnt get frustrated like so many of the other coaches and it has stuck with me since

we were talking about a young coach getting frustrated and what Marshall said to me was one of those ah-ha moments

ewan, its all about your level of expectation, when you are coaching a group of good players and then you coach a group that arent so good, you have to adapt and understand that the group that arent so good wont be able to do as much, if you expect a kid to be able to do 10 keepie ups and he can only do 2 you will get frustrated but if you expect him to fall on his face, you will be ecstatic when he does 2 πŸ™‚

i remember passing on the advice to an up and coming coach who was working on some passing drills. he had the good kids passing the ball to each other through 2 cones but he was getting frustrated when the younger kids couldnt do it. I told him to shift his expectation of the kids being able to pass the ball between 2 cones to just being able to kick it properly…

…and as if by magic, as he taught them to kick it properly, he started to see success πŸ™‚

so this dude signs up into a business opportunity, there is 4 entry levels, $400, $2000, $10,000 and $20,000…

he starts at the $400 level, all fired up and he says to me…

ima give it 3 months, and if im not makin $10,000/month thenΒ  im gone

he actually did better than most people do when they first start a biz but sure enough he quit

its a story i have seen time and time again, expectation levels leading to frustration and disappointment and thanks to Marshall’s little piece of advice, i understand why and can avoid making the same mistakes both in my own projects and when im working with others
