About Ad Networks

Ad Networks are set up in such a way that they are able to offer advertising to clients either exclusively (offering a sales mechanism to a single, stand-alone client operating in one particular niche) or to a group of advertisers who are doing business in the same sector online.

The networks sell what’s referred to as inventory – advertising space on a website or group of websites across their network of partner sites. Google is the largest and best known advertising network using the AdSense platform for publishers who want to earn money from visitors who click the ads on their website.

Ad networks sell traffic, for the most part, in two ways – CPM (per page impressions/per 1,000) and CPC (cost per click).

This means that you (the advertiser) are paying either every time the page loads (CPM) or whenever your ad creative (banner or text) is clicked on. This may look like a straight forward choice to start with but it isn’t. A hungry business owner could find themselves easily confused and quickly swallowed up if they make the wrong choice and select the wrong type of traffic on the wrong ad network. CPC may seem to be the right approach (you know what the cost of the click will be, right?) but this isn’t always the case. A good ad creative, placed in the right position on the right website can provide a much better return on investment.

Here’s how it works…

Larger advertising networks use an auction based bidding system like Google’s, where the highest bidder is rewarded with the impression immediately after a website visitor clicks a link on a partner website. This happens in a tiny fraction of a second and provides the advertiser with the exact traffic they want at a price they’re willing to pay the ad network. The ad network pay a portion of the advertising fee (the cost of the click or the impression) to the website owner and everyone is happy. In theory at least. 😉

As an advertiser, you are bidding or agreeing to pay the network a fee based on the value that visitor will deliver.

What does this mean for you and your business?

When you bid or agree to pay a certain amount for traffic (CPC or CPM) you MUST know the visitor value of your website or you’ll be dead in the water.

Here are four questions you need to ask before buying traffic:

  1. How much money can you afford to spend to get a visitor to your website?
  2. How many leads will your website produce for every 100 visitors?
  3. How many people will you need to get on your subscriber list to make a sale?
  4. How many sales will you make on average from each of your customers?

Something really got me laughing the other day.

See my friend joined us for an investor meeting, but he’s not much of business guy. In fact, he was a bit out of place an as aircraft engineer amongst the more experienced investors; one of them being my dad.

So as the meeting progressed one thing was clear: nobody liked the asking price of this particular business takeover.

Most of the business’ price was under that all-elusive term ‘good-will’…

and in the heated price negotiation, I observed a conversation between my friend and my dad:

“I don’t understand, what is the actual price of this business?” my friend asked.

He wasn’t happy with my dad’s answer: “That depends on what we value it to be.”

But the poor guy still didn’t get it. He wanted something more concrete so he thought of an example to put his point across.

“I don’t see the big deal. For example, how much would you pay for a single Rolls Royce Turbo Fan Aircraft Engine?”

“hmm, I’d pay 6,000” my dad replied.

“Try 160,000!” my friend smirked. “You see? You have to know the industry, then you can put a better figure on it.”

I could see what he was tying to say. Value needs a frame of reference and depends on comparison right?  Otherwise we’d have no clue what the value of something was, like ‘real estate’ for example.

A valid point. But I think my dad’s response was even more acute:

“Perhaps…but I don’t really want a fan engine.”

And that’s all business is isn’t it?

Yeah, I bet the click-thru rate on those goes through the roof. But chances are the ads will just cost a fortune and make no money, especially if what I offer is free.

Ok so it’s not that straight-forward.

Because Mr. Gooroo tells you to super-target your audience by the keywords they search for. Then split-test one ad against another until you find the copy that gets the highest number of clicks per 100 views.

But the whole concept is backwards in their silly little minds!

The idea being you should LIMIT the pool of people who see your ads and then try to get as many of those people to click as possible. That’s a recipe for LITTLE traffic.

Especially that ad VIEWS (which you’re limiting by “targeting”)  cost nothing on PPC, whereas CLICKS COST! And you still gamble the clicker decides not to follow through.

Why not do this:

Show your ads to ALL the people in your target audience–after all, impressions are free on Pay-Per-Click.

And then write an ad that REPELS clicks from everyone but the people likely to BUY.

Something like:

Hard Work Here
We’ll show you how to work hard and make MILLIONS in the process. $20k to sign up!

I’m sure a bunch of curious people will click the ad. But most people who aren’t willing to work hard or spend 20k will be turned off by the ad.

But since the pool of people seeing your ad is in the range of 1.5Mil per day, you’ll get hundreds of genuine and responsive people to click.

Practice makes perfect…right?

What’s the difference between sports and business?

I’ve found that when it comes to success, there’s isn’t much difference between the two.

On that note, I’ve got an ass-kicking experience to share with you today…

You see, back in my athletic prime, (hey come on, it wasn’t THAT long ago) I was a very active practitioner of Taekwondo.

For those who don’t know about this Korean martial art, it’s an accepted Olympic sport that emphasizes fast, high kicks and flashy footwork.

Anyway, when I first started 10 years ago I had a real knack for the sport. I pounced on it and practiced my kicks every day religiously, for MONTHS.

After a while, there were very few people who could even hold the pad against me during training. Thousands of kicks later I believed I had perfected them.

Or so I thought…

The problem was when it came down to actually testing my well-versed kicks in sparring with my seniors, it was clear that I was not good enough.

I had to get faster somehow. So I fine-tuned my techniques, over and over again, researched outside the scope of my class, studied different marital arts, even bought extra books trying to find secret ways to get faster and stronger.

But when I began to spar again, all that extra work still didn’t help!

Now I was really stumped. I had no idea why my practice wasn’t paying off in the ring. I was even faster and stronger than some of my seniors, but my kicks still weren’t landing.

Do you ever feel like that when trying to get your business off the ground?

You’ve got a great product, so why isn’t it selling?

You do things over and over again and get great results one day, then mediocre results the next?

Well wait for the kicker (pun intended)…

It was only with a LOT more experience that I realized:

It’s the ability to adapt to your opponent that makes all the difference.

Not just slamming away with technique after technique mindlessly.  But using them at the right time and place. Either offensively or defensively. As a feint or a follow-up.  In combination or reaction.

There was no way I could figure all this out just by practicing day after day. But as experience came, so did my competition winnings.

Yep, sorry to all the gooroo fan boys who follow whatever system their respective internet marketing liege-lords consider the end-all solution; but it’s true. There’s never a single solution that applies to everything in REAL business.

 When I gained more experience and was able to adapt to my opponent’s weaknesses, ONLY THEN did all my practice pay off.

How one-eyed men taught me basketball…

I love basketball.

I mean, I REALLY love basketball.

I can’t understand anyone who says they don’t like it. I just stand there in shock until somebody shakes me.  😉

Having said that, I used to be pretty uncoordinated, and in basketball that’s not exactly a plus. But I love the rush of playing. It didn’t take much to play every single day in high school – with friends who felt the same way.

We worked hard, loved what we were doing, ignored the ‘haters’, and pushed on till we became pretty good.

(Sorry if you were expecting a glorious ending…we didn’t go on to win any championships or anything!)

You see, I lived in Malaysia back then and basketball was greatly overshadowed by soccer. We had to find our own matches, hustle the school office just to get uniforms, and at the end of the day we didn’t get much recognition.

More importantly, we had to get pretty creative about how we trained. We didn’t get funding for a coach, so we had to coach each other.

Problem was, there were only a few players who knew how to play well. To the rest of us, they were basketball MASTERS.

Remember the old saying:

“In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is KING”

Well, as beginners to the game, our frame of reference was so limited that we considered their skills to be WAY up there.

They could get past the rest of us so easily that we were convinced that ‘magic’ was involved.

The ONE guy who could dunk? He was DEFINITELY on his way to becoming an NBA superstar!

The crappy neighbouring schools we faced had nothing on us; with him on our side.

But we were obviously “blind”!

We had no idea how good other people could be outside our small circle of influence.

Later on, when I moved out of Malaysia and experienced players in other countries, I realised how silly we were…

and how this same lesson can be applied to online business.

Literally SCORES of people trying to work from home are throwing themselves at master goo-roos and trusting anyone that knows a bit more than they do.

Of course, some photo-shopped clickbank figures, and a few fake testimonials, help seal the deal for any newbies on the court.

 I feel so sorry for the poor suckers who don’t know any better!

Opinions Are Like A******s…everyone’s got one!

Hey big shot. 😉

Seems like yesterday’s email hit a sore button for many MLM defenders.

One funny guy said on Facebook, “I always like to give my opinion: All the alternatives for passive income you gave as examples require a large investment which few people can afford. MLM is the ONLY way to get passive income that ANYONE can afford.”


My response:

“Opinions are like assholes…everyone’s got one.”

Haha…difference is when you have traffic and a mailing list thousands will hear your opinion. His will go unheard.

So at the risk of sounding politically correct, allow me to share my view.

The point of yesterday’s email was not to rag on MLM…

Please make no mistake about it though, I THINK MLM IS NOT A BUSINESS IN THE FIRST PLACE. But hey I don’t mind getting traffic for clients who want to build a MLM. It’s their choice what to do with the traffic I send them.

But I digress…

The point that MLM is the ONLY passive income anyone can get is stupid.

Many of the examples I gave yesterday required NO sign-up fee and little investment. Whereas MLM DOES require a sign up fee.

Also, in my examples, any money you invest goes toward buying something useful that works. Whereas, the sign up fee you pay to join a MLM is just to get products that you’ll probably store in your garage or consume yourself without any business use.

Unless you join an ONLINE mlm, in which case you buy the right to market someone else’s system. Still, you don’t buy a passive income.

Furthermore, the point I made yesterday was that there are other passive income alternatives that have a HIGHER SUCCESS rate than MLM. Just because it’s something “anyone can afford”, doesn’t mean it’s a winning investment.

I’d BORROW the money to invest in a business I had a good chance of succeeding with ANY DAY over putting in $1 into something I’d most likely fail at.

But still, that’s not all I said.

I said that people who want MLM for its passive income have:

No money

No skills

And don’t want to do any work

No matter what the business model, passive income will require AT LEAST one of the above.

So even if you have no money and no skills and you believe MLM is the ONLY way to get a passive income, you better be prepared to make up for your lack of money and skills with 100 times as much work.

On the other hand, if you have a little money with no skills but you’re willing to do a little work, then you can put your money to work:

Pay for advertising (PPC)…and…outsource what you don’t have the skills to do!

1,800,000 impressions in 15 minutes

Hey there,

It’s been rough getting back into my routine since returning from travel. Lots to catch up on, including back-logged work, a LOT of missed sleep, and being under the weather.

In any case, I wanted to share with you a little traffic insight today. This came up while reviewing a campaign for a traffic client we manage…

I think one of the biggest hold ups entrepreneurs have when starting their business is that they try to do too much preparation before getting started.

The Gooroos who are interested in selling lots of information products over-complicate things to the point there’s too much to consume all at once. And it’s a total time-suck.

Starting your traffic is simple…

You have a product to sell, you bring people to your site, then you start selling it.

So everyone gets really caught up in the details of getting it perfect…like setting up their website, then writing a landing page with killer copy, a sales letter, an email sequence, and then super-dooper targeting of keywords and a gazillion ad split-tests. TOO COMPLICATED!

Bah!!! Makes my head spin.

Pro’s don’t do it like this. Here’s what we do:

We start out by getting a bunch of keywords that our audience is searching for. Lots of them. AND I MEAN LOTS!

We write 4 ads, each with a drastically different angle on the offer. Solutions for different problems.

Then we run the campaign with minimal tinkering. We are up and running in hours.

Where we see desirable results, we expand on them.

Let me give you a quick example we worked on today…

One lady we built a campaign for as part of a DFYT consultation had nearly 100,000 keywords and 4 ads.

After 9 days, we found she was receiving 1.5 million impressions on ONE keyword.

We could have wasted our time creating landing pages for each keyword and special ads to match each. But we didn’t.

The adgroup that was producing all these impressions was providing 1,800 clicks…more than enough traffic to refine.

Like this, we immediately amplified where we were already getting results. We increased the effectiveness of the impressions with the better-correlating ad, and as a result we hope for many more conversions. The entire thing took 15 minutes.

On the other hand, we might have wasted DAYS writing and split-testing ads for keywords that were never going to get many impressions unless we bid several dollars a click.

A bribe is meant to be some “freebie” you offer a visitor to your site in exchange for their email address.

The idea being, if what you offer is valuable (yet free), the visitor will happily drop their email address for it.


Sorry I just flushed down the toilet your last few months spent authoring “Super Cool Traffic Nitwits 2.0 Money Control List Buggery Free eBook Bribe”.

Look, let’s admit this outright:

– You want someone’s email so you can sell to them.

– You could care less if they read your eBook.

– You only need their email address to follow-up and sell stuff. Because I know and you know, if you send peeps straight to the order page sales don’t happen.

But look at it from the prospect’s point of view…

If you’re such a kind Samaritan, why can’t you just give a direct download link to your fabulous book?

(and btw, if in fact your eBook IS your sales pitch, then please go ahead and make a landing page with nothing but a straight download link to your crappy ebook. Please. Many more people will download and read your sales pitch this way.)

Here’s what makes more sense. Pay close attention:

Your newsletter IS your bribe!

Call to action:

“Drop your email in the box below to receive weekly traffic tips by email…”


Bribe? waste of time. You don’t want that. It’s nothing more than an invitation for fake addresses entered by curious prospects just so they can advance to the next step of receiving the promised freebie.

Worse. Later, when they receive email from you, they’re irritated!!

Why are you emailing me asshole? they think…

The text I shared above, it places value on your EMAILS.

It’s where you want attention.

If they want free sh–I mean stuff, they MUST understand it’s gonna be dripped over time in a newsletter that sells shyt.

Now THAT’s the way to make sales!

Is there a place for a bribe then?

Traffic Secret: I know what you did last Private!

Hehe, Funny story…

Couple years ago, I was instructor at a closed mastermind in Pasadena, California.

I addressed the room:

“Suppose you were on Google searching for, I dunno…say, ‘gay porn’…and you saw this ad…”

(Members in attendance: a pastor, a Mormon, 2 seniors, a few ladies…)

Me? Unworried. I couldn’t care less. The example wasn’t to make them laugh. I’m not a clown.

There was an important point to be made.

The reaction was mixed giggles. Except one side of the room, where the youngest, most “hip” group sat–they had bewildered, mostly confused looks and I could not understand the reaction.

Session ended well after midnight. All of us starving, beaten, and tired…we socialized with the group and THAT was the first time I became embarrassed.

I was told that TWO of the members of the “hip” younger group were gay!

Before I tell you what happened next, let me get to the point of this message…

The lesson I shared in that “embarrassing” example was an important traffic tip.

People are MULTI-DIMENSIONAL. They are, after all, people…not keywords, as most marketers like to believe.

Take you, for instance:

You’re a marketer and you care about leads, traffic, conversion, business ops, and affiliate programs.

But are ALL your searches about these topics?

I mean, what YOU type at the search box could be ALL KINDS of stuff. Yes, even triple-x sites and odd fetishes, 2 girls and a cup, jap eel-eating, and all that. C’mon, these are amongst the top uses for the Internet!

Picture this…

While you’re browsing your strange websites in private you see an ad about a way to fill your business (not your cup) with traffic, and it catches your attention…wouldn’t you click it?

Point made?

You have LOTS of interests, besides your “this minute” interest.

And you’re more likely to buy from my traffic ad while looking at naughty stuff than you would from all those free weirdo video sites you look at, ya freak.

Learn Google PPC for FREE!

Hey there,

Almost didn’t write this post today.

But kept thinking about you in the shower. You eager beaver looking for tips from me on a Sunday and me sleeping in till 5pm. You DO deserve an advantage. And here it is:

Few days ago, a Facebook discussion started when a friend of mine posted an excited update announcing he was about to begin an AdWords Certification in Chinese at one of the local Google Training Centers.

“Good on ya mate”, I thought to myself. But then I got pissed off!

Not at him. He’s cool. But at the response he got from one of his friends.

*reading in a numbskull douchebag accent*:

“They won’t teach you the RIGHT way there, they’ll just teach you what Google wants you to believe.”

W-T-F? OMG stfu! Blithering idiot. !@^$%!!!



Let’s dissect:

So what he’s saying is Google wants to teach their customers how to use their advertising platform WRONGLY so they can sell their ideology? I don’t get it.

It’s exactly what is wrong in this industry you’re studying. Stupid remarks like this being propagated without so much as a thought, from one school drop-out to the other– like gossip, but with the holiness of gospel.

How come all the gooroos who thought they were smarter than Google and were teaching and propagating this exact statement are today permanently banned!?

I mean, if they understood so well how to use Adwords, better than Google (who invented it by the way), wouldn’t they still be generating gangs and bangs of leads today?

What Do Leads and Green Acid Reflux Have In Common?

Here’s a pattern that always makes me laugh

Whenever I hear from people whose language is OVERLY focused on getting leads, I usually can guess correctly they’ve been banned from Google Advertising.

Let me tell you a quick story…

Few years ago, I had an uncomfortable acid reflux problem along with recurring headaches. And as I mentioned yesterday, I used to eat gobs of inexperienced marketers…so I kept burping up arms covered in green stomach fluids. 😉

It got to the point where part of my weekly shopping was a pack of Zantac max strength, 2 bottles of Gaviscon, and head pain meds (Codeine, Ibuprofen).

One of my friends had the same problem, about that time too.

Two years later, I’m pain free AND drug-free…

I ran into him recently and thought to inquire about his acid reflux problem.

“A few days ago,” he said, “I finally found a solution:

“A mouthful of Gaviscon a few minutes before eating greasy food and I sleep like a baby.”

I didn’t have the heart to tell him. I tried that already – after a few weeks, my stomach built up a tolerance. And I knew he’d soon need a stronger, more frequent remedy.

What? An extra $1,500 in “free” PPC Advertising?

Top of the Mornin to Ya,

A feller wrote in yesterday with a question I’ve answered often. Here it is:

*clearing throat* (reading in Irish accent):


 “Hey Jim,

I just got through reading the offer on this page:


I’ve got an offer that’s converted from my email list, and I’m sure it would convert with some good PPC traffic – that’s where I need your help.

I think the done for me would be the way to go.

I have no problem with the $2k,

After all, I just finished reading your article in Ben’s newsletter.

How much of a budget for PPC would I need in addition to the $2k?


Would you consider breaking it in two monthly payments of $1k each?”


Ok, he probably didn’t say it in an Irish accent, that was just added for dramatic effect. Anyway, onto the…


If you’ve never done PPC before, I suggest you set aside a budget you can afford to lose if you had to.

Think about it like this:

“If I made no sales from my traffic for 6 months, how much money would I be able to comfortably spend for 6 months straight with no return?”

You may get a return much sooner than that, but the biggest mistake is to dump your entire budget into one month (or day) of advertising and then sit around twiddling your thumbs with no money left over. Better to pace yourself.

Your number could be like $200/month if that’s what you can afford. If it’s less, that’s fine. If it’s more, better!

The advantage of having a bigger ad budget is in how quickly you can test the market and what it responds to. Smaller budget is just slower at testing, still works but.

Don’t do PPC without a budget.

I suggest going to work, picking up a second shift if you gotta, and save up to a target budget before you start playing.

Next Question…can you pay in installments?

Online tools such as Google Insights, WordTracker and SEO Book will assist you in determining the daily or monthly volume, origin and competition level of the keywords relevant to your campaign. These can be used to help you research and identify the best and most cost-effective keywords for your purposes. They will also make the process much faster than tedious manual research.

After compiling a list of promising words and phrases, you can further prioritize these keywords as they correspond to the needs of your target or niche markets. These can then be utilized in your online advertising campaigns (including ads and landing pages) as well as website or blog content. Remember though, while adding keywords to your website content will help your search engine ranking, overusing them may leave your site susceptible to being penalized or banned for spamming.

Local vs Global Searches 

One of the biggest mistakes new online marketers make is to base their research on global search volume rather than local search results. You need to understand where the bulk of traffic for your keyword is being generated and what relevance it has to your product or service.

For example, the keyword phrase “air conditioner service” reveals an estimated 165,000 monthly searches globally and 74,000 locally in the United States. If your AC service company only wants to target your city (and surrounding area) you will need to make sure the research tool you are using allows you to identify those demographics as well. This way, you can eliminate the potential traffic from the rest of the country and attract the audience best suited to you.

How To Come Up With Lateral PPC Keywords

A reader wrote in last week with the following question…


I’m starting ppc marketing and have hit a brick wall. How do you build on top of your main keywords? I have got about 20 and can’t think of any more. That’s never going to take my business to the next level.”

It’s a great question and one I hear over and over again from marketers entering the ppc battlefield.

The cool part is that 20 keywords could easily make you $20,000/mo. In fact, I have a friend who is consistantly doing $25,000/mo from 4 keywords. 🙂

But it’s near impossible to do this from a standing start. You will have to build a bigger list and find what’s working for you.

I Feel Your Pain

I too, when starting ppc, hit the very same wall. My first training taught me to open an excel spreadsheet and list as many keywords related to my product as I could. I think I got around 12 and seriously thought there were actually NO MORE. 😉

More Pain

Being an inexperienced ppc marketer, the next frustration was the ‘newbie tax’ 🙁 – the first keywords you come up with that are usually very generic and not ‘buyer keywords.’ Every single marketer in your niche is doing the same. How Many Leads Should A Good Landing Page Generate?

According to recent reports, up to 50% of the people who visit your landing page will leave in the first 8 seconds. Many more will fail to fill out your optin form and others will leave false contact information. So what’s an online marketer to do? Let’s investigate a few key elements which will have a direct effect on your results…

Conversion Rates

Defined as the “number of goal achievements divided by number of visits,” conversion rates for e-commerce landing pages fall between 1-4%. A goal can refer to opting in for free content, being added to a newsletter mailing list, or another similar offer which results in a lead being generated (i.e. email or contact information being gathered). Even highly targeted traffic, sent to a relevant landing page, will only generate about a 15-20% lead conversion rate.

Traffic Sources

The most common sources of landing page traffic are PPC (pay-per-click advertising), SEO (clicks from a search engine query), and Social Media sharing (e.g. Facebook, Twitter). Your job is to convert those clicks into contacts, and the contacts into sales. Traffic generated through an extremely targeted PPC campaign will generate many more quality leads than simply tweeting a link on Twitter. The type of traffic you send to your landing page has an immediate and direct correlation to your conversion rate.

Landing Page Optimization

Keep your landing page simple and to the point. Offer something free and enticing in return for a lead’s contact information. Split testing your landing page and experimenting with different elements is imperative.

How To Advertise A Replicated Site

I’m not sure about you, but I associate replicated pages with spammers, newbies and those who lack creativity.

This guy pops up on Facebook chat the other day…full of enthusiasm he says, “Ewan, how’s business going?” and in the next split second I replied.

BOOM! And back he came with,

“…you should take a look at this,” and a link…


I mean, by asking one lousy question, do you really think this will make me buy from you or join your team?

Most of the time I ignore things like this, but every now and again I’m in the mood to try and save these people. I replied, “dude, you’re not making many sales are you?”

I felt his enthusiasm turn into heartache and after a few back and forths he asked me…

“So How Do I Advertise My Replicated Website?”

Uhm, you don’t 😉 well, not upfront anyway!

The Problem With Replicated Sites

Okay, where do I start…

Problem 1

They all look the same. How do you stamp your authority, or set yourself apart, when you are shoving the same link in people’s faces that thousands of others are too? You look the same as EVERYBODY else. You need to be unique in the market place. To top it all off, this strategy is usually extremely ineffective as well.

Problem 2

Replicated sites tend to focus on the company and how awesome they are. Your potential customers are looking to have a problem they are suffering from solved! Who cares if a company has its headquarters in a gazillion square feet next to Dave’s Ice Cream Parlour on the sunny coast of M.I.S.S.I.S.S.I.P.P.I. (now close your eyes and spell it backwards). 😉

Problem 3

I have seen first hand how using these sites can damage your reputation and your business. If you generate leads within a company’s generic system, some so-called leaders have access to them and have been known to ‘steal leads’ from unsuspecting victims. I have also seen the unique link not work correctly. After you’ve done all the hard work, and made a sale, the commission goes to another *ahem* entrepreneur.

Problem 4

What happens if the company goes out of business? You’re left with nothing. No income, no websites, no ‘system’ which you relied on so heavily, and no business.

But It’s Not All Doom And Gloom

Listen, Network Marketing and Affiliate marketing can provide incomes like politicians can provide bull-poo…

…IF, you do it right. 🙂

If you’re to survive on the Internet, your business needs 2 things:

  • A Website
  • Somewhere to store data you collect, i.e. email address, etc.

Hey, sure, guaranteed traffic sites work. They get you traffic and may even result in the odd sale or sign-up, but it’s a strategy for the lazy who are desperate for leads. They really can’t be bothered building a real business, so they look for the ‘quick fix’ type of marketing. 🙂

Here’s The Problem With Guaranteed Traffic

These offers are downright scams and these companies deliver bogus traffic in many different ways. Some companies will simply use “bots” that constantly visit your website until it reaches the hits they promise. Many customers report when they analyzed their traffic logs they received all the traffic from one IP address.

Paying for raw traffic like this is a waste of money. Most “guaranteed traffic” services use pop-unders which may cause your domain to become flagged by some anti-adware/security software programs. Additionally, don’t be misled by claims from some “guaranteed traffic” companies that they can deliver targeted traffic. They are still presenting your web site to people who DID NOT ask for it.

They Play On Your Emotion

You need traffic so bad you will do anything to get it. I remember it well, selling your own grandmother for some traffic action seemed like a viable option. 🙂

how effective is Facebook ppc?

one friday afternoon, i received a commission payment for around $3500. i decided to put the whole lot back to work.

having had a great chat with Jim Yaghi the week before, i was keen to put my new website to work so i punched in my card details and i was all set up for Facebook ads.

i set it live, put my favourite song on YouTube and went to make my afternoon coffee. i may have also had a small cake too, i forget 😉

it couldn’t have been more than half an hour… new emails already – lead notifications…

know who your target audience is. you can target by…

  • location, language, education, and work
  • age, gender, birthday, and relationship status
  • likes & interests such as ‘camping’, ‘hiking’, or ‘backpacking’

design your ad

where are you sending them?

there are arguments both for and against sending your traffic to a facebook fanpage or straight to your own website.

obviously, if you’re trying to grow your fan base then you will want to use a fan page but to drive straight sales, your own website is as good as any.

manage your budget

by setting a low budget you make sure you don’t blow all your money in your first day of the campaign. set it low, test it and if it doesnt work, find out why and fix it. if it works, ramp it up 🙂

review and improve

keep watching your ad, how it converts and if it is achieving what you want it to achieve. by looking at this you will know where changes and improvements are required from ad to sale.
