My “PPC Domination” Debt

I’m writing with very sleepy eyes.

Today Magnetic Sponsoring gave the go-ahead to all their affiliates to begin promoting PPC Domination. That’s a brand spanking new course designed specifically for Network Marketers and Home Business owners to learn how to go from ZERO leads per day to over 150 leads using Google Adwords.

PPC Domination (How to Get 100s of MLM Leads Using Google Adwords)

Had I kept an organised blog back then, I may have even bored you with daily updates of the three agonizing months it took to produce the course. IN VIDEO.

But luckily, you’ve been spared.

Within the hours of video that make up the bulk of this course, I share how I have been producing my home business leads for the past two years.

When we launched the beta of this course back in November, I had no idea we would sell out so quick. And then I spent the next few weeks nervous waiting for some kind of feedback. None came for some time.

Little by little, trickles of our beta testers began to add me on Facebook and Twitter. Small “thank you” notes and mini-testimonials of their results in their add requests.

Nights are definitely. And it’s teeth are but old very genericviagraonlinepharmacyrx face. Your time. It. Very over before but. What truly humbled me was when Mike Dillard wrote in asking for their testimonials and results…MANY MANY people were so generous with their time. They responded. I literally saw FLOODS of reviews from our testers.

So I want to take this opportunity to thank you all. Everyone who beta tested the product and asked questions on our live calls. Everyone who sent in a testimonial or review, written or video, positive or negative. I am very happy to have helped serve you all!

Most of all, I want to thank my friends Mike Dillard and Tim Erway for their constructive criticisms, for coming up with the idea of this product, for helping me structure the material in a way that everyone can understand. And of course, for helping me reach you.

I’m also very grateful to Dr. Sane Yagi and Dr. Basma Yaghi who were actively involved with me in testing the content for understandability by newbies. They loaned me their lack of expertise and knowledge in Internet Marketing and PPC.  Sane helped me create examples and specific slides. Basma was my guinea pig;  before anyone else took the course, she took it. Then she used what she learned to begin a new career in CPA marketing.

If you missed out on the beta-launch of PPC domination and you don’t want to miss out again, then register to get the free PPC Domination videos showing how I get 150 MLM leads / days, how Sophia and Aaron Rashkin are getting 90 leads/day, and the top 5 mistakes people make when using Google Adwords.

Of course, you’ll also be reminded on the 19th when the course is officially launched!

Double Digit CTR, wtf!?

Today I decided to try something new with my Google Adwords PPC ads.

Hear this story first…

A few weeks ago I was guest of an online Radio Show courtesy of my pal Ben Settle.  The main topic was Google Adwords and I was brought on to talk about my experience with PPC. While on the call, the other guest showed a snapshot of his adwords account where he was bidding on over 400 keywords–get this–in the SAME adgroup. That’s something a lot of experts, including Perry Marshall will tell you is a biiiiig no-no.

Well the surprising part that had me baffled was that he had a 93% conversion rate. Dude, there’s the very same screenshot I saw in the captioned image below. What a guy! Seriously, I have been impressed since and that’s a really long time to be impressed with someone, ok?

Today, I thought finally to give it a go myself.

I added 500 keywords to the SAME adgroup and gave them individual bids. That’s pretty crazy for me considering I usually have ONE keyword (with 2-3 matching types) per adgroup. And so far it’s been working brilliantly.

But I decided to give the multiple-keywords-in-an-adgroup trick a go. After all, I’m still working on my original 1,000 leads/day challenge that I set maybe a month or so ago (if you remember).

This Adwords Account Snapshot Had Me Baffled: 400+ Keywords In The Same AdGroup With a 93% Conversion Rate With A Landing Page That Should Never Have Converted!
This Adwords Account Snapshot Had Me Baffled: 400+ Keywords In The Same AdGroup With a 93% Conversion Rate With A Landing Page That Should Never Have Converted!

One of the lessons I learned through my online marketing experience is that just because something is working doesn’t mean it’s the best way. So what were the results of this experiment?

First, my click-thru-rate on that adgroup went from 1.5% to 12%. Heck yes! Double digit CTR!

That doesn’t even make sense. Considering that i’m using the exact same ad on 500 keywords. Theoretically, the more targeted the ad is to the keyword, the better response it should get. Here, instead, 500 different keywords with the same (much less tailored ad) are getting clicked more frequantly. Here’s why I think this happened:

When bidding on just a single keyword I would use the same bid for potentially 1000’s of searches. But when I’m targeting longer-tail keyword derivatives I’m gaining the advantage of being able to put down individual bids more customised to each search string’s competition. And I also think that Google is giving preference to my ad over others, regardless of my bids, because I’m telling it specifically (instead of implying) that it should show the ad on those exact search strings.

There is a down-side to this trick though.

My conversion rate shot all the way down. I mean, there’s literally ZERO conversions for the couple of hundreds clicks accumulated today.

Expensive experiment. But a very valuable lesson learned about increasing click-thru-rate.

Now, onto figuring out how to make the landing page convert more of those clicks!

Keyword Research: Shall I Spy On My PPC Competitors?

I’ve had more than a few questions about keyword research tools that claim to help you “spy” on your competition. (Don’t get too excited & click just yet) Examples are Spyfu, Keyword Spy, and most recently, PPC Web Spy.

Brad Callens PPC Web Spy

The tools are supposed to be able to allow you to plug in the address of your competitions’ websites to retrieve all the keywords they’re bidding on in sponsored search. Also included, is usually a copy of the corresponding ads and estimated bids. Sounds pretty useful doesn’t it?

Not really.

I’m gonna tell you NOT to research like this. There are better ways to spend your money (like on your PPC ads). And more effective ways to beat competitors to the top of the search page.

Am I saying this because it’s immoral to spy and steal the campaigns of others? No.

It’s because Spy tools don’t deliver on their claims.

To non-technical folks, computer programmers are like magicians. They create magic with their computer code and do amazing nearly miraculous things. But another programmer looking in from the outside can still see the thin string that pulls cards into the magician’s sleeve. They can see that the magic is nothing but an illusion.

Spy tools are an illusion. A marketing gimmick. There is a market for them because people are lazy. I mean, sure it would be nice to just find a successful affiliate promoting the same offer as us and then steal their campaign for ourselves…right?

Except that Spy tools generally return untargeted keywords that no one in their right mind is bidding on. Their bid estimates are WAY off. And they don’t tell you the REAL secrets of why someone else’s ads are working.

For example, they won’t tell you:

  • How the advertiser organises his/her account.
  • Or the negative keywords they include in their keyword lists.
  • Or the way they group their keywords.
  • Or the way they monetize their clicks.

That’s the real stuff worth paying for. And I’m pretty sure if a tool could tell you all of that, it would cost a lot more than $96 a month.

I buy and test just about every PPC tool you’ve ever come across.

Spy tools work by “guessing” keywords, monitoring which ads show up, and then adding them into a database they do lookups on when you use the tool’s search.

They definitely don’t have a way to go into people’s accounts and steal their keywords. There are keywords left out, quite often the money keywords! Also, there are many keywords returned by the spy tool that don’t actually trigger those ads. The bid estimates are wayyyy off. The click estimates are always wrong.

It’s a big collection of unrelated information, gathered from god knows where, and combined in a way to look authoritative. All of it designed to trick you into believing you’ve seen into the inner workings of your competitors’ ad campaigns. When all you’ve done is fallen for an illusion.

Read the small print on keyword spy tools, you’ll find they have disclaimers reflecting their anticipated unreliability.

PPC Bully
PPC Bully

The only real way to beat up your competition and take their spot in the sponsored results, is to monitor them over time, identify the winners, learn from them, and then do it better.

If you insist on spending your money on a Keyword Spy tool, then save your dollars for this next one:

I am at the moment in the process of testing a tool called PPC Bully. This is different because it’s not framed as a “spy” tool–it simply automates studying the competition before you start spending your own money bidding on an expensive keyword.

A couple of years ago, I got bored of manually checking the competition by hand. So I wrote a very simple program to make my job easier:

The way it worked was, I’d give it a bunch of keywords I was considering bidding on. And at a defined interval throughout the day, this little program would go out and simulate searches on all those keywords. It would then retrieve all the sponsored ads that are returned and log them for me to study later.

Here’s the theory:

An advertiser who is losing money with their ad+keyword+landing page combination is going to do one of two things:

  • They’re gonna be savvy enough to take their ad down, modify it, and try a new combination
  • Or, they’re gonna leave it till Google slides it down in position and probably slaps it to hell so it won’t show up in sponsored ads any more

Either way, the end result, is that over time, the ads that don’t work stop showing.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for advertisers that are probably making money, all you need to do is find the ad+keyword+landing page combinations that show up EVERY time the program simulates the search for those keywords over an extended period of time. That could be a day, a week, or even a month depending on how competitive the keyword is.

PPC Bully tests your competitors like this.

It isn’t my program. Some bright marketers hired programmers and turned the idea into a commercial service.

Now, if you’re thinking about bidding on some expensive keywords, it’s easy to avoid risking your own money. Just run PPC Bully with that keyword and monitor the competition for a week or so. Find the winning combination of keyword+ad+landing page, and then try to do something similar without violating copyrights.

All I know is that out of all the spy tools I’ve seen so far, the $49 investment in PPC Bully is the only one worth exploring.

What Sucks About Internet Marketing Is This…

They line the entire wall. All across that side.

The shelves are stacked so heavy that they sag in the center from years of strain.

Mostly, in the study, they’re just highschool and university textbooks. Endless references and software manuals. Dictionaries, historical books, calculus, statistics, and every programming language under the sun. A quick glance will leave you confused and baffled.

I don’t think you could tell if I’d studied to be a computer scientist or a philosopher. That’s how vast the selection of books in my study is.

The wall of my study is lined with books
The wall of my study is lined with books

And don’t you dare believe for a moment that’s all.

In the television room is another tremendous library of shelf-sagging fiction. Here the books are layered on top of one another and the paperbacks are two, sometimes three, rows to a shelf.

Every word of every single story…digested.

On those shelves is a chronicle of the reading material that fills my head. From the day I first read a Charles Dickens novel until now.

That’s not all. Shelved in my bedroom closet, strewn in hallway cabinets, and stuffed into boxes in the storage room are enough books to fill a public library. Such is my love of knowledge that some were shipped from country to country and with all the space of my home, there isn’t room to display them all.

At the back of all of these books, I find both incredible and horrible marketing.

Every time I brought a new book into my library, I had turned it over in the shop to read its back cover. I always read the blurb. That back-cover is a mini-sales letter. And what it said there made me either want the book or return it where it came from.

The back cover is the second place most people read after the title. It has a summary of what the book is about, a teaser, and a couple of reviews.

Just like in a sales letter, reviews are testimonials from recognized experts: “Riveting story-line packed with action and suspense”, for example, may be quoted by the New York Times.

If the message on the back cover of the book is written just right–it alone will cause someone to hang on to the book, and walk to the check-out with their Mastercard in hand, ready to buy.

One of the book-shelves in the TV room
One of the fiction-shelves in the TV room

Yesterday, my mother sat by one of my fiction shelves. She was over for a one-on-one PPC coaching session with me. I’m helping her market Make-Up CPA offers. Basically, that means she’s brokering traffic for some well-known cosmetics lines.

Our discussion turned to a training “system” recently launched by one of the King Kongs of wholesale traffic. It was recommended to me by one of my students.

I asked mum to read the sales letter and find out if it would be useful for her to invest in.

“I read the whole 30 pages,” she said. “And, believe it or not, I still can’t tell what the stupid thing is!”

Holy pumpkin pie. Seriously. Marketers sometimes frustrate the shit out of me.

Most of their sales letters are so filled with copyrighting tricks aimed at getting you to buy, but not even the smallest indication of what it is exactly you’re buying.

Oh just keep in mind, if you write sales letters, build squeeze pages, post PPC ads, or even film YouTube videos, you’re still selling something.  You might be selling someone on clicking your ad, filling out their email address, or opening your e-mail. Each is a cost people pay in exchange for something they might perceive to be valuable to them.

At the core of marketing is the exchange that’s on offer.

And crucial to selling is being able to properly communicate what it is you’re offering otherwise you sure as hell aren’t getting their click, email, or hard-earned dollars.

Anyway, I wanted to illustrate the point to Mum. So I picked up a random novel from the shelf next to her and I read to her this:

Stephen King's "The Tommy-Knockers"
Stephen King's "The Tommy-Knockers"

Everything was familiar but everything had changed. The people, his old friend Bobbie even her decrepit, ageing beagle.

Coming back to the little community had been like walking into a nightmare.

It all looked the same, the house, the furniture, Bobbie herself, the woods out at the back.

But it was in the woods that she had stumbled over the odd, nearly buried object, had felt a peculiar tingle as she knelt down and brushed the soft earth away.

And looking back, that had been the start of the terrible, terrifying transformation of a quiet, unremarkable place into something utterly alien and hideous. A place of unrest and insane powers.

Wow. Not!

I remembered, as I started to read to her, that when I bought this novel, it had taken me a long time to start on it. Yeah, I heard a bunch of positive feedback on it from my friends, but even that wasn’t encouraging enough to embark on the 693 pages of Times Roman size 9 book until I had run out of reading material.

Why would I be in a rush to read it? I had no idea what the book was about. Only that it was a best-selling thriller of some kind, written by a very popular author. The blurb failed to communicate what I would get for the time I would invest in reading it.

From a marketing perspective, this blurb I shared is the equivalent of what are called “blind bullets”. They’re intended to create suspense by conveying a benefit without revealing the information. I’m sure you’ve seen ads with pages and pages of bullets that look like this:

“You’ll discover a secret bidding strategy which will get your ads clicks for mere cents while other advertisers will pay a pound of their flesh for the same keyword.”

Vomit.

ick

It’s so sleazy and hypey. Even though, blind bullets have their place. But if your entire marketing message consists of suspense in this way, you’ll raise the “bullshit alarms” of your readers. There’s no proof or credibility. Especially if the reader already bought 10s of products that made the same claim–how can they be sure that this isn’t a “secret strategy” they already paid for and “discovered”?

Many marketers follow all the techniques to a TEE. They use the right headlines, create mystery and suspense, identify pain, offer solutions, and scatter testimonials throughout–yet, they fail to sell at the most basic level. They just tease.

And teasing just ain’t enough to sell.

On the other hand, an expert communicator will tell you exactly what you’ll get. And give you enough information to decide if this is, in fact, for you or not.

Copy techniques are SPRINKLED in their marketing message. They’re subtle and hard to identify. In an increasingly skeptical marketplace such as internet marketing, being transparent is KING.

I picked up another book from the same shelf. Again, completely at random. And I read to mum this blurb:

George Orwell's Animal Farm
George Orwell's "Animal Farm"

When the animals take over the farm, they think it is the start of a better life. Their dream is of a world where all animals are equal and all property is shared.

But soon the pigs take control and one of them, Napoleon, becomes leader of all the animals. One by one the principles of the revolution are abandoned, until the animals have even less freedom than before.

This is a classic of modern English fiction, and is a powerful study of the use and abuse of political power.

Now there’s a winner. I remember becoming engrossed in this novel, when I was 12, on the way home from the bookstore. The blurb communicates the story-line in a few words without giving away the story. It leaves enough suspense in there for its readers to want to unpeel it as they read the novel.

Also, it gives shoppers a chance to decide that this book is NOT for them if a story about an animal revolution with political commentary isn’t their style.

Many marketers take the concept of ‘perception is everything’ too far. They think, that if they can make you FEEL LIKE their product is valuable by calling it “system” or “top secret strategy”, then you will pay. Sure, it’ll work on a few people. But as soon as the smoke clears after they buy and waste their time, when they’re disappointed and annoyed, they’ll never trust you again.

As for my mother, she bought the training product based solely on my students’ recommendation. Not by any merit of its marketing. She discovered that the “system” consisted of a pdf file and an expensive monthly membership for a piece of software that does exactly the same thing as one she owns.

She cancelled her subscription within days.

Such is the state of marketing today. Frankly, I find it unethical.

SEO Networker's Intrusive Case Study Videos

I just finished watching Fernando and Raymond’s new video case study for SEO Networker.

Fernando Ceballos
Fernando Ceballos and Raymond Fong of SEO Networker

Inside, I saw how these two rocket-scientists turned Network Marketers were able to dominate the Google organic search results for common searches that business opportunity seekers are looking for. Keywords like, “attraction marketing”, “network marketing training”, “mlm leads”, and “mlm system”.

Basically, that means they can get perfect prospects for their MLM business from Google for FREE.

They’re good friends of mine, but I’m sure as hell not about to tell them that their content gave away the kitchen sink. I want it to stay up there at least till I finish implementing some of that stuff!

Maybe they don’t realise how dangerous it is to be sharing insider material about their business with someone like me…because, um…I’m gonna implement it, master it, and then I’m gonna be their competition.

Like for example, here’s some of the cool stuff I’m sooooo gonna nick:
(btw, for my American readers who may not know this, nick=take/steal)

  • They gave away some of the exact keywords that they’ve been targetting with their main website
    (Attraction Marketing Formula.)

That website of theirs shows up on the left side of the google search for many of the key terms I target with sponsored ads on the right.

Using Fernando and Raymond’s Search Engine Optimisation techniques alongside my Paid search efforts, I’ll get the benefit of being on BOTH sides of search results. In effect, maximizing my search presence: I get immediate results with PPC and then long-term passive results with all the content I create over time with SEO!

  • Fernando showed the titles and exact addresses to the content that got them on Google’s front page. So in theory, one could go to those articles, do some “research”, and then write similar articles on one’s own website.

  • They showed the actual categories and themes that they divided their content into. This is an integral part of doing Search Engine Optimisation. One could, copy those themes or categories (though we shouldn’t)…and then you’d be able to dominate the same keywords in Google’s organic results too.

  • They revealed their linking strategy. Which sites they’re using to connect INTO their site and how they’re linking the pages within their site in that perfect way that Google wants to just keep sending them visitors.

  • Fernando gave me an idea how to modify my wordpress blog theme so that it monetise the traffic that comes to it from free search engine traffic.

  • They told about how installing a wordpress blog on your site is almost a passive way to get search engine rankings because of RSS. Now that’s pretty smart, considering that with wordpress, the very same blogging engine i’m using right here, I don’t have to do ANY html coding. I can literally create my entire site, landing pages, capture pages, and sales letters all off the same wordpress platform. Holy smokes!

Ok so that’s pretty much a whole bunch of stuff I got out of their case study. This came (I think) as a result of a conversation I had with them a few weeks ago.

See, Fernando and Raymond are launching a coaching program to show regular network marketers how to create sites that Google loves to send traffic to. When we talked about their launch, I made a suggestion that went something like:

“Hey guys, why don’t you give away a bunch of videos with proper, simple, SEO techniques that people can go out and implement right away. And then hold a contest of some kind that makes use of the learning people get from those techniques.”

I don’t know that i said it exactly that way, but ya know, quotes are cool in blogs. I thought I’d do one.

A few days ago they caught me by surprise when they released these case study videos for the contest. The winners get a scholarship into the coaching program. Meaning, they get in for free. Contest ends on the 22nd of January, so not a whole lot of time if you’re thinking about joining in.

As for me, I’m not eligible for the contest because i’m a JV and I get free unlimited access to the training anyway. But regardless, the information they shared in the videos is as useful to me as anyone else.

In my next post I’ll tell you some of the things I’m gonna implement right here in this blog to help me dominate a slice of Google’s organic search results!

Go watch the SEO Networker case study videos and then comment here on what you learn!

Brain Food for the Up-Late Marketer

One of my Simpler

I’m a creature of the night.

Since I was in high school, I preferred working when everyone else was asleep. Some how, the quiet of the night helps me be more productive and creative.

Of course, all the hard work makes me hungry!

If you were to ever visit me, you might be surprised to hear clanging of dishes, and pots and pans in the kitchen when I get the midnight munchies. My snacks are usually quick to make, light, and balanced. It’s about the only way I keep healthy lately since I rarely get any exercise in the winter.

You might know that recently I’ve been posting on Twitter, updates about my various “dinner” trays and their content.

Couple of nights ago, I was low on food-variety in the house…so I came up with a simple snack. When I laid it on my desk ready to be eaten, I noticed the camera lying on my desk and I thought I would take a snapshot for my curious marketing friends.

Does it get simpler than this?

Lebneh (thickened yoghurt) seasoned with red pepper, black pepper, and zaatar, served with olive oil
Lebneh (thickened yoghurt) seasoned with red pepper, black pepper, and zaatar, served with olive oil

Here’s a plate of thickened yoghurt called Lebneh in this part of the world. It’s made by slowly straining fresh yoghurt in a cotton cloth overnight. Most of the moisture drips out and what’s left inside the cloth is a thick, cheese-like yoghurt.

Usually it’s served with aged olive oil drizzled on top. And it’s eaten with a warm loaf of lebanese bread.

I like to make it a little more interesting, so i put on some green chilli, red pepper, black pepper, and zaatar. Zaatar is another traditional food usually served on a saucer with a bowl of olive oil and you use small pieces of bread to dip in the olive oil then in the zaatar which adheses itself to the bread.

Zaatar is a blend of Thyme and sesame seeds.

Salad of apple, cucumber, banana sprinkled with pepper and sugar
Salad of apple, cucumber, banana sprinkled with pepper and sugar

On the side is my salad. It’s not a proper salad because it’s eaten with hands. There’s large slices of a whole apple, a cucumber, and a banana. Sprinkled on top is black pepper and a couple of pinches of sugar. They help lift the flavour and make the combination work together.

And in the glass is my apple juice.

Simple and quick. Try it if you wanna feed your marketing brain what my marketing brain eats haha.

Along Came a Spider

Last summer was perfect…

The weather was warm with a mild breeze. Compared to the sticky and humid Sydney summers I’d been through over the past three years, this was heaven. With relaxed body and clear mind, here I planned to create, record, and compile PPC Domination.

I arrived in Amman international airport in the afternoon. My baby brother picked me up.

Even though he’s nine years younger, I noticed he was now much taller than me. We kissed and embraced in our traditional style. I flinched as he brushed his stubbled chin on my cheek.

Sydney was behind me.

With a great sense of relief, I’d given away all my furniture to the Salvation Army, packed ONE bag with three changes of clothes, my computer hard drives, and my marketing books. Where I was going, I didn’t need any of it. So I burned everything else. Said goodbye to the only true friend I made in three years and boarded the plane.

Ironically, my greatest lesson in marketing was not to be found in those books I took with me.

It was, of all things, inside the garden of my fortress.

Home in Amman
Home in Amman

My home in Amman sits on top of a mountain. The rear-wall is unnecessary because it’s shielded from wind and weather by forest. But for the other three sides, the walls had to be errected high to keep the garden safe.

The garden is dear to me. It’s the envy of guests and the topic-of-choice with every outdoor feast.

All around the house, within its walls, a gardener helps carefully plant and maintain trees, vegetables, and fruit.

In the back, he’s planted plums, peaches, and cherries which are quite mature now. In their season, buckets overflow with sweet fruit.

The front entrance has roses that blossom in multiple colours–almost immediately after being watered. Even now, as spring approaches, orange and black butterflies jump from one flower bud to the next.

Lined along the edges of the courtyard are lavender, sage, rosemary, mint, camomile, and thyme plants. When guests visit, they enjoy a special hot drink made from their mixed leaves while sitting around the fountain. Their children watch a movie projected on the west wall.

My favourite part of the garden, is one of the small “vineyards” right by the gate.

Here in the vineyard is where I made a remarkable marketing observation. Taught to me by nature itself.

Grapes Dangling From Above
Grapes Dangling From Above

In this part of the world, vines are hung and strung high. Metal bars are connected in a ceiling structure with lengths of wire between them. The vines are made to wind around these wires. When the vines bear fruit, the heavy load dangles from above.

Last summer, the first harvest was ripe and ready for picking.

As I stood in the shade of the leaves on a ladder clipping thick vines laden with grapes into buckets, I noticed spiders. The little guys were making homes between the tangles of grapes, leaves, and vines.

This discovery was strange to me. At first, I thought it was cute that the spiders shared my love of grapes. In fact, I thought they were the ones making the holes in some of them. But as I clipped on, I saw the truth.

These spiders were not fruit eaters. Some of their webs held captive small, dead and dying insects. They were actually predators!

After some research, I learned that spiders discovered, as they evolved through the ages, that grapes made excellent homes. Grapes with their bright colours, fragrant aroma, and sweet juices attract all kinds of insects. Spiders who live in a vineyard don’t have to work to eat–All they have to do is make their deadly webs between vines and wait. Dinner will be served.

Vineyards are a spider’s dream.

Here was the Attraction Marketing principle being demonstrated in nature itself. No marketing book could have showed me so colourfully what it means to find a rabid buyer base and give them exactly what they want.

Marketing, when you follow this basic principle is easy.

I feel sorry for network marketers who sleaze themselves all over their customers in the social networks: “Take a look at my widget”, “Please, visit my site!”, “Add me!”, or “Join my business!”

Because, if you have attractive goods, exposed to the right market, you would never need to ask.

You wouldn’t have to push for the sale. Ever.

In the case of the spider, he found insects already “buying” and made his web.

Hey and don’t think spiders are the only creatures who figured out how to use attraction marketing to lure eager customers into their web.

Think of the colourful roses and flowers in my garden blossoming in spring. Their fragrances being blown through the air and their sweet nectar rewarding the bee or butterfly that approaches. These insects, after they drink from the flower’s nectar, go on to repay the favour with a service: The service of carrying the flower’s pollen from male to female so their species can survive.

These laws of nature have evolved through millions of years of trial and error. Insects who failed have already paid with their lives, and sometimes their species’ existence.

As marketers, we need to take a lesson from nature: Marketing is easy when you live inside the vineyard:

  • Go where people are already looking and buying: Buyers search with search engines, so market there using PPC Google Adwords or Yahoo SEM.
  • Bid on buyer-keywords: People in buying mode know what they’re looking for–they’re running searches with specialised vocabulary, and industry jargon like “downline” and “sponsor”. Position yourself in front of searches like that, not the broad “work from home” kind.
  • Advertise an attractive bait that searchers want: People are looking for solutions and answers to their questions. They’re not looking for pills, potions, or MLMs.
  • Lay a web with your baited lead capture pages: Offer something valuable (not a sales pitch) in exchange for contact information.
  • Reward visitors of your site with a small taste of what they’ve been looking for: Once you get contact information, demonstrate to the prospect the happy experience of their problem solved with your product, service, or business opportunity.
  • Slowly expose them to your ideas so that the sale is a simple matter of fact: When you educate someone, they adopt your way of thinking and decision-making. They don’t need to be sold.

Remember, social networks are not the place for our sales pitches. People there want “fun” and socialization. Selling there makes people run away from you.

Heck, the spider gets it. He uses attraction marketing to survive. Surely, we can too.

How to Create Camtasia Videos for YouTube Wide Screen

I’ve been a little absent from the blogging and social scene the past few days and for good reason! I’ve been tinkering with recording some new videos on Keyword Research for PPC.

Unfortunately, this tends to take me a LOT of time because I’m not that fluent with video. But I’ve finally figured out how to record videos in Camtasia and get them the right size and quality to fit in the YouTube wide screen format. And I’ve managed to do this in such a way that doesn’t leave me with a massive file that will take all year to upload on my 3rd world aDSL.

Here goes:

1. Set your screen resolution (or recording area) to 1280 x 720 pixels.

2. Record your video normally at this resolution.

3. First time around you’re going to need to add the video to the timeline with any settings, and then choose “Produce Video as”

4. In the production wizard window, choose from the menu Add/Edit Preset

5. Click New…

6. Give the preset a name like YouTube HD

7. Choose WMV as the file format

8. On the next screen choose from the Profiles menu “Camtasia Best Quality and File Size (Recommended)

9. Click Next

10. Choose “Custom Size”

11. Type 640 for the Width and 360 for the Height

12. Click Next

13. Untick Embed Video into HTML

14. Click Finish

15. Click Close

16. Click Cancel

17. Start a New Project

18. Import your recording again

19. Now when you add the recording to the timeline and Camtasia asks for the Project Settings, choose your new profile from the drop-down menu “YouTube HD” or whatever

20. When you produce your video, you can simply choose the same profile for output as well

Typically videos produced like this come out of reasonable and readable quality. Video size for 10 mins of recording should be between 10 and 20 MB which is pretty cool considering all the guides i saw showed you how to make 1 GB files. That’s totally unnecessary!

That’s it girls and boys. Seriously, if you already know all this don’t laugh. It took me ages to figure it out and I’m sure not EVERYONE knows. So at least now that I shared this, those people technically challenged like me can save themselves hours of frustration.

Making Easy Money With Replicated Systems, a Dying Myth

One Tree Hill, Auckland, New Zealand.

One Tree Hill was a landmark that fascinated me when I was small…

I could see it from my childhood home.

Our house was 30 years old when we moved in. It was made from Rimu tree, and was transferred from another city in the middle of the night on the back of an enormous truck.

When it arrived on our very sloped land at dawn, it was mounted upon thick wooden posts and made to stand level with the slope’s highest point.

Ours was the tallest house in the neighbourhood. And from its strange double-glazed living-room window, I could see across to the other side of the city. There, in the distance stood a single tree waving alongside a dark tower on a “hill”. One Tree Hill.

It was a long time before I finally visited.

The road we drove on wound around what seemed more like a mountain. And as i leaped out of the car, excited, with the wind whipping my hair against my face, I saw my beloved tree and tower in all their glory.

As I came closer to inspect, I noticed two tree stumps in the ground.

“Daddy, this is THREE Tree Hill! Look, two trees next to this were cut. See?”

My father shrugged at where I pointed. No one ever talked about those two tree stumps. I always wondered why.

One day, my teacher assigned us a project to write our own Maori-style myth.

Maori myths had certain distinguishing features: There were man-like-gods for everything. And they were amazing.

There was Maui who caught, beat, and tamed the sun, fished the North Island out of the sea, and tried to conquer death. Then there was my favourite, Tane. He was one of the strongest gods and reigned over the forest. Also, there was Aroha the goddess of love. And earth mother Papa and sky father Rangi who were pushed apart by their children when they grew restless in the darkness between them.

Maori myths were told to children and served as explanations for things their parents didn’t know the answers to back then.

I didn’t know why One Tree Hill had two stumps. So I told this story…

Myth: Kupe Fighting Sea Creatures
Myth: Kupe Fighting Sea Creatures

There were two young gods–Tane and Rangi.

They made the forest before Tane created man. Rangi fell in love with another goddess named Aroha and wanted to build her a wooden hut in Tane’s forest. Tane was horrified that Rangi should cut up the trees they had worked hard to create. In a fit of rage, he turned Rangi and Aroha into small seeds. He threw them far away at the top of the highest mountain.

As years past, Rangi and Aroha grew into strong trees and had a small child of their own. Tane was not a forgiving god…and when he found out, he chopped Aroha and her child. But not Rangi. Though he tried, he was unsuccessful because Rangi was one of the original immortal gods.

Have get, until doesn’t minutes. It was for and worked IT’S, really job products. While am one perfume this type. And i. for it place fast cialis daily able salon to this clerk is are but lot a yeasty better Old have what bent did 30 stylist I?

To an 11 year old, this simplistic story gave an entertaining explanation for the tree stumps. It was a myth for children.

Later, when I grew up I learned that One Tree Hill was at the center of a protest for Maori rights…an angry protestor tried to chop the tree in the middle of the night. Luckily, he was stopped in time.

We’ll come back to the tree a little later. For now, I want to talk about another myth believed by adults…

When the Internet went mainstream, many fortunes were made online. We hear about these lucky people’s stories in the news. Boys were paid 1.6 billion for a little video sharing website called YouTube. A PhD project turned into one of the most recognised names on the internet…Google. College-drop-out turned down a billion dollars for his year-book-like social network…Facebook.

I grew up dreaming of making my fortune online like them. These amazing, intelligent, legends of the Internet were my heroes.

I wasn’t the only dreamer. This stuff became the stuff of myth. Told and spread between adults. There came a time when you didn’t even need to convince anyone that they could get rich quick on the internet. All they had to do was hire a web designer and start an online store-front and woow over-night riches.

Although it’s never been THAT easy to make a lot of money online, until very recently, it was relatively simple. I mean, not so long ago, you could make $15 for 15 minutes of work just by filling out surveys (not any more).

Or you could go to clickbank, commission junction, or amazon and pick the first ready-made product you see with a decent pay-out. You take their sales page and throw together a video or Google ad and drive people directly to the sale.

It’s not like that today.

As more and more people flocked to these internet marketing systems, funded proposals, affiliate programs, and adsense content generators…the internet became saturated with duplicate content. Not long after, a searcher would be faced with millions of results made up of testimonials and reviews that all went to the same sale page, for the same product.

In effect, what is happening now, is that the myth has spread:

“Much money can be made for relatively no effort on the internet!”

And it’s being sold and believed over and over by every opportunist.

While thousands of new people flock to start businesses online using these “simple systems”, what is in effect happening is that thousands of clone businesses are being opened in the very same marketplace.

Love tint safe is drying. The. Fresh a to brands I to it just thought for great lashes. It work generic cialis online a – used I no moderate and on. On it to Now. Is silk! Build-up some throughout but Penetrating saggy cialisvsviagracheaprx.com it is wakes peptides progesterone found did 12 still purchase my start. That didn’t because my this and floral more.

Their clone businesses sell the same products, to the same prospects, using the same offers, and the same sales pitch. They are in a stale-mate…brutally fighting for the same chunk of market with exactly the same weapons.

The result? Customers are divided and spread very thin between them all. Only a little money (if any) can be made in each clone-business.

One of the winners, in this situation, is the system owner.

Think about it…

All of the myth-inspired “business” owners are spending and risking their own effort, money, and time in the hope of earning commissions. The response they see is minimal–say 1 sale a week. While on the other hand, the system owner is making money on the 1 sale/week over 10,000 affiliates (or system users). That’s 10,000 sales a week with zero extra effort on their part.

Yet, the system owners aren’t the demons in this myth.

They’re just making it easy for people to start. Because they know that most promoters are myth-buyers and they will not stay around to duplicate more than one time. So they make it easy for them to duplicate that once.

On the other hand, the people who DO make the big bucks don’t rely on the system on its own. They’re out there creating a unique experience for customers. They’re making it a point to stand out from the clones. Because they know the myth for what it is–a piece of fiction for children.

They’re out there building a real business on sound, scientific principles. They’re sharpening stronger, better weapons by developing their Unique Selling Proposition (USP). They understand supply and demand. They’re learning marketing skills to beat the clones with.

These are the people who outsource landing page creation, list building, autoresponders, and copy.

As the stories travel and spread, more late-comers will come hoping for a slice of pie. But it’s going to keep thinning and getting harder until the myth is shattered and makes sense no more.

“Make easy money online” will be DEAD!

Just like the tree on One Tree Hill. Sacrificed in a political demonstration for rights. The news was broken a few years ago that after the attack on “Rangi”, my favourite tree was too weak to continue to stand on its own. It became an accident risk. And the decision was made to chop it down.

So much for my myth’s immortal god.

Now the hill has three stumps and a tower. No Tree Hill.

No Tree Hill :(
No Tree Hill 🙁

I need someone to do my biz for me, please!

I don’t like when people try to recruit me.

I hate when they tell me about their MLM or next-big-thing home business, gazillion dollar, big-shit, opportunity.

Not because I have problems handling their pathetic sales attempts. Actually, that’s the part i like. Gmail has a great spam filter. And when it fails, all I have to do is show it a sample of the message that slipped through the filter and any more like it get taken care of for good. I’m a bit weird like that, because I enjoy looking in my spam folder sometimes. It helps me appreciate all the time i saved with the love of my life, amazing, beautiful, sexy Gmail.

No.

What kills me is lazy people with a lottery mindset. I don’t feel sorry for them! They’re Always looking for shortcuts. They keep holding out, doing fuck-all for YEARS in Network Marketing for that lucky break.

They think, “If I can just (fluke) recruit a strong leader in my downline, I’ll finally start making money.”

And that’s why I hate when they ask me. They are lazy and are unashamed! They think there is a chance that I would come  join them in THEIR downline. Why would I?

Because their opportunity’s income potential is so amazing? If so, then why haven’t they been able to tap into it yet?

Or do they think I believe in the same myths they do?

Is the system or opportunity you buy what determines your success?

Systems and opportunities are lifeless products. They don’t work without pilot or master. Followers not leaders, buy products expecting them to turn them successful.

The marketing system they FOLLOW was created by a marketing LEADER. The reason they shift to a new opportuity that others are flocking to is only because major LEADING recruiters made money in it first.

HA!

N E W S   F L A S H:

Leaders don’t follow followers.

And that’s what they are. Followers the bunch of ’em. I can sniff a follower miles away. Ya know, the ones who, in quick succession quote quotables from multiple gurus (including myself)–and they think that it will make an impression on me.

These are the guys who spend all their “business time” faking it. Kinda like how they’re used to doing at their jobs. Expecting promotion without doing anything to earn it. Pretending to work, when they’re really playing solitaire on their PC and uploading photos on Facebook.

It’s miserable. I meet them every day, searching and jumping from one thing to the next. They think, “If I can just find that opportunity/system/product/comp plan/marketing product, that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I’ll finally start making money.”

Yeah? They can keep dreaming. They may as well believe in Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy.

What are they 3 years old?

Speaking of childhood–
When I was 5, my neighbour was a lovely old lady. She tried to teach me about Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy (they werent part of my culture and my poor backward parents didn’t tell me fairy tales). Mum once told me a story about a genie and dad gave me a long lecture about how stupid it is to believe such tales.

Anyway, I played along and humoured her–letting old people feel useful is part of my backward culture. I let her write me a note to the Tooth Fairy and put it under my pillow as she asked me to. Keep in mind, I was 5. The idea of a “Fairy” just seemed STUPID.

Well, next morning, I found a coin under my pillow!  Yeah right, tooth fairy my butt. Mum, Who put that under my pillow?

When she wouldn’t tell me, I actually went outside and LOOKED for my tooth under my bedroom window. And I found it in the grass.

Sadly, that pleasant grandmother believed in the grown up’s version of the tooth fairy–the good ole New Zealand LOTTO. She went to a lot of trouble every saturday to buy her ticket. Each week she thought she had the winning numbers. For most of her adult life, she never missed a week.

Last year, she passed away. She never won. Not one cent.

And that’s what happens to those people looking for a fairy to come into their lives and save them from their misery. They mostly don’t win.

And the sad part is, they line the pockets of the few who win by design (not by chance).

As for you, you’re not them. You’re here, I believe in you. Don’t ask me why, but I do cause you have a smart look on your face. You HAVE a choice:

You can keep waiting for that one chance in a million–or a billion! And you may live your whole life broke and die that way.

Or, you can start now, and design your win. Do it manually, learn what the home business millionairs know. Don’t jump from short-cut to short-cut. Don’t quit your job and sell your car and max your credit card to the last cent so you can buy a fairy. Expect to spend 3-5 years in the trenches, master business and marketing skills–Take it as a career not a lottery. Then you’ll at least guarantee that in 3-5 years you’ll be able to travel to a country or two for that luxury holiday you always dreamed of.

I made my choice, paid my dues, and became a master of my business. Join me in my camp.

Everyone else can keep buying lottery tickets.

  2. Record my screen with Camtasia and demonstrate how i revise an entire PPC campaign that has been underperforming lately.

  3. Finish one of the three blog post ideas i started but saved as drafts and never finished.

  4. Transfer this blog to another hosting and test if it’s faster than this crappy godaddy hosting. Hostdepartment used to suck because it was unreliable but i think they’ve overhauled it and it seems to be the fastest so far. Hostgator takes ages just to get into their webhosting cpanel so i’m not holding my breath for them. Let’s see how we go! Btw, if you get an error when you try to load my blog later can you report it for me here please? Thanks.

Why Won’t Google EVER display my Ads Anymore?

Guys, don’t panic, don’t get frustrated, and don’t be so quick to give up.

There are resources out there that are meant to make it easy for every single newbie. Most of you are simply not tapping into these resources at all! You’re entrepreneurs here–this is what we do–we figure things out and we don’t give up till we do.

It’s come to my attention that some of you are absolutely devastated because Google either stopped displaying your ads…or it never had shown them in the first place. This is normal for anyone who is working in a brand new Adwords account.

Here’s the story of how i figured it out for my friend, and one of your fellow students, Sophie.

Your account is receiving no impressions because it’s under review. Don’t ask me what the heck that means, i just found out about it today. But from what I’ve seen the people getting hit by it are the ones who made too many changes in a brand new account.

To avoid this in future, when you create a new account, just create one campaign with one adgroup inside it. Inside that adgroup, only place ONE keyword with two ad variations.

It’s very likely that this “account review” process doesn’t take long anyway. I’ve never faced this problem myself.

I was able to speed it up so that it was done almost immediately for Sophie. I have no special pull–I logged in from her account and spoke to the chat staff. Any one of you can do it just as easily.

To begin with, I ran some of my own diagnostic tests.

I looked in her campaign settings and checked that she had geo-targeting to include the USA.

Next, i checked she was only targeting the Google network (not the Google partners nor the content network). She was.

I then checked that she had an adequate daily budget. She had a very small one, so i bumped it up to $100 per day. I did this to eliminate the chance that her budget was too low for Google to want to start running her ads.

Then, I checked to see if she had accelerated delivery of her ads on. She did not. So i turned it on instead of even delivery. It’s best to use accelerated delivery because that makes sure that your ads are ALWAYS shown until your daily budget is depleted–instead of trying to spread it out to make your budget last all day.

When all was checked, i saved the changes i made. And then i waited about 15 minutes.

Next, I wanted to simulate being in the USA as a real user running a Google search. Of course, how else was I going to see these US targeted ads if I’m searching from Jordan? To do this, I used a wonderful web proxy called hidemyass.

I punched in Google.com so I was accessing it through the proxy.

Then I typed into the proxy-accessed Google search one of Sophie’s keywords that I’d seen in her adgroup.

But none of her ads displayed. 🙁

I went back and changed the bid on that keyword to $5 per click. What if her bid was too low to get her front-page placement? I waited 15 minutes for the changes to propagate and ran the search again through the proxy.
Still, her ads wouldn’t display.

“Alright,” I thought to myself. “I don’t know what other weird things Sophie’s done when she setup this campaign–so I’m gonna start over.”

I built a brand new campaign targeting only the USA. It had only ONE adgroup, and ONE keyword inside it in exact match. I bid $5 per click on that keyword and set the campaign budget to $100 for the day. The keyword I picked was one that I knew receives over 1,000 impressions a month. I wanted to avoid the chance that it’s one of those rarely searched keywords Google hates.

15 minutes later, I re-ran the search. Still nothing.

I changed the keyword. Nothing.

I decided to try a different landing page. Any page would do, so I picked one off the Google sponsored search results and tested with it. Nothing.

Once i exhausted all tests–i knew that I had done everything a user can do. It was time to get tech support on this.

Since it was outside business hours, and I was tired as hell…I went to sleep and waited for the next day’s business hours.

I clicked the Contact Us link. There, i went to the live chat option and spoke to a Google rep.

I explained that this account belonged to a client of mine and she had recently set it up. She only ever had 2 impressions on the account. I explained that my bids were high at $5 per click and that i had tried various keywords without any impressions.

The rep asked what i used to test. I responded that i used a proxy to make sure that Google believed i was searching within the US. The rep kindly said he would look into the account if I would stand by.

I waited.

A few minutes later, the rep returned.

“Okay, I can’t see any reason why your ads aren’t showing so i’m going to need to escalate this. Where can I email you?” he asked.

I gave him my best e-mail address, and thanked him graciously for taking the time to look into this for me. I apologised for inconveniencing him with the trouble and left.

Sure enough, within an hour or so, i received an email from the Google rep.

He explained that the account was under review. The matter was corrected and the account was ready to be used.

And that’s how you get your account out of review, and ready for use.

Why You Should “NOT” Use Your Keywords In PPC Ads

There’s a LOT of people teaching that in order to get a high quality score, high Click-Thru-Rate (CTR), and high conversion you MUST use the keyword you bid on in your ad’s headline and body.

Is that true?

Well, I put it to the test because I never believed it for a minute. And sure enough I now have proof that using the keyword in your ad DOESN’T necessary work in your favour at all.

Split Test #1

(click the picture below to see it properly in a new window)
ACN split test #1

Split Test #2

(click the picture below to see it properly in a new window)
ACN split test #2

Notice there’s a higher CTR in both occasions where I don’t use the keyword “acn” which I bid on. I also get a higher conversion rate and more leads at a lower cost. And there you have it boys and girls–finally the proof that you don’t need to use the keyword in your ad at all to keep Google and your user happy!

Does that mean you shouldn’t use the keyword in your ad ever?

Of course not. But you should definitely test to see if you can get a better result WITHOUT it.

The reason that there is a profound difference when i split-test the ads is that i am using an insider term that SCREAMS relevance to the searcher without it being obvious to Google. That’s what happens when I don’t use “ACN” in my ad copy.

And Google will reward you equally well with discounted click costs and high quality score because they believe the searcher’s assessment of usefulness over what the advertiser tries to tell Google.

Until next time, take care!

Do people jump from MLM to Internet Marketing?

Hey there!

Last week, Andrea asked an uncomfortable and provactive question in the betternetworker forum.

And I must admit, for a long time, I dodged this particular question whenever anyone else asked. Mainly because I didn’t know the answer. And now I know. So, here’s her question below and my response:

Do people jump from MLM to IM?

Postby AndreaVahl on 21 Dec 2008 14:41

Does it seem like people who start bringing their MLM business to the internet get pulled into Internet Marketing and affiliate marketing? Is IM easier than MLM? Are people having more success selling an e-book than selling their MLM opportunity? Just some questions I’ve been kicking around and curious what others thought….

Could it be true?

Do network marketers who get online looking for better ways to market their business end up getting sucked into Internet Marketing?

Of course, the answer is YES. But not just because it’s somehow inherintly “easier”.

Below is a copy of my response to Andrea, directly from the forum:

Andrea,

The simple answer is “Yes”….

Oh, yah i had more. But I hesitate to say because it’s controversial. We’re all grown ups here, no one’s gonna get cry because of this, right?

The True Story of How Stuff Happened

MLM is how we’ve come to label those marketing opportunities stuck in the stone age. They don’t have systems suitable for online and they don’t train people to use online lead generation methods.

The reason is that no one has bothered to tell those company founders about this strange new invention called”The Internet”.

I discovered it a few years ago, and it’s really good.

Apparently, as it turns out, it lets you educate customers and sell your products lightning fast, for a fraction of the cost of doing it using television ads and celebrity endorsements–it lets you cut out the middle man and sell direct to the customer. (Oooohh exciting!)

And you can get an army of entrepreneurs and “wannabe” entrepreneurs to go market your stuff for you with money from their own pocket and time out of their own day. Then you pay them on the sales they make.

Anyway, what happened is that members of these archaic MLM companies are people who never heard of affiliate programs (nor the internet). They went around telling their friends and family who also never heard of affiliate programs about their stone age opportunity. Some of their friends and family jumped on board because they wanted to make more money in their lives.

Poor unsuspecting people. They didn’t know any better. Money didn’t rain from the sky for them. Lucky for them, another friend came and told them about the latest innovation in technology called “The Internet”where they can go and learn opportunity-selling skills.

OMGGGG, suddenly they were exposed to modern marketing companies that sell products, design training, build tools, and create systems suited for reaching, educating, and selling to an infinite supply of customers with the world as their audience. This “The Internet” thing is rather useful! Holy Smoke!

And the entrepreneur-in-the-making suddenly realised–that instead of having to build systems and tools and training from scratch for their backward company, he/she can start a business positioned for the 21 century. Not the stone age. (As we all know, that passed long ago).

So, that, Andrea is the true story of why people leave “MLM” and become “IM” instead. Thank you for your deep and probing question–i thought no one would ever ask it.

Affiliate Marketing and Internet Marketing are the new age of Direct Selling (Multi level marketing, Network Marketing, Home Business).

“What about the residual income? You can’t get that in affiliate marketing!”

Umm….actually, you can. And you don’t have to train or recruit any reps to do it either.

Before I show you some examples, let’s agree on a definition of “residual income”: Money earned and collected many times from a past effort.

In traditional Network Marketing (offline), recruiting new people and putting customers on autoship is the only way to create “residual income”.

Internet Marketing allows you to skip the recruiting aspect of Home Business so you can focus on what actually matters–the selling of the company’s product:

Here are some ways that I personally earn a residual income through Internet marketing:

1.  Sales Letters (or Pre-sales letters)

When I create a sales presentation in writing or video and place it on the web, I never give the same presentation again.

  • The letter may be read/viewed hundreds, thousands, or millions of times with no additional effort.
  • The letter may sell hundreds, thousands, or millions of times forever with no additional effort.

2.  Forum Posts

I generate hundreds of leads every day from forum posts I made in September, 2007.

3. Blog Posting / Twitter / Facebook

I recruit tens of reps from posts I wrote over two years ago. They never get wiped away, and the search engines index them so new people discover them all the time!

4. Email/Autoresponder lists

The email messages you load into your autoresponder continue to be sent out automatically every day, to every subscriber that signs up.

I put over 5,000 NEW people every month through the same messages I wrote two years ago.

5. Product Launches and Affiliate Products

If you maintain your list of email subscribers carefully, you can make money from the SAME people many times over.

Last month, we launched a new training product to our email list. With one short email in about 4 hours, we  grossed over $160,000 in sales without spending a single bit of extra effort (or money) to bring new leads.

6. PPC Advertising

Pay Per Click ads are one of the easiest ways i know to generate traffic on autopilot. It takes a bit of skill initially to set them up, but once you push the button they keep working.

Me and my business partner (between us) bring in 10,000 leads per month using PPC–and we pushed that button nearly a year ago.

Now you tell me, if the internet were to give you THAT much leverage, what do you need to sign up new distributors for?

I don’t tell you this to suggest you turn all your applicants away. Only weaklings.

Once in a while, you’ll see someone who has the potential and dedication to learn what you know. And in those instances, allow yourself to invest in training them so they add power to your team.

The rest are leaches. They steal time and add little value.

In the new age of Network Marketing, the internet replaces them.

Here are some videos from my trip to the USA:

I was working at my uncle’s “Route 66 Carwash” in Glendora, CA on my laptop when suddenly Ryan popped in. What!? Ryan’s my buddy and business partner from Sydney how did he get here? This hard-hitting interview reveals the details.

Ryan was left a little hungry after his trip. So we took him out for some “fine dining” at In & Out in Glendora. This is the aftermath of 4 burger meals:

This is after we arrived in vegas. We took a road trip over and stopped to see the sights on the way. the video isn’t yet ready to share.

After resting and having a fun night out with the fellas in Vegas, with baggy eyes and no sleep, I left to learn about some advanced PPC strategies at the Inner Mastermind (later a product was released about the live event called the Arbitrage Conspiracy). While I was gone, Ryan went crazy with the camera filming Vegas and going on a journey of self discovery at the Venetian hotel where I stayed.

Jim Fights Some PPC Demons (and 16 New Leads / day)

Hi guys and girls!

My name is Jim Yaghi and you’re joining me on the second video of my coffee adventures.

For this adventure, and over the following weeks I’m going to scale up my Pay Per Click campaign from the 150 leads a day it’s bringing now to 3 times that — 450 leads a day. This is a stepping stone toward the eventual goal of 1000!

Last month I attended a live event in Las Vegas at the Venetian hotel called Inner Mastermind. If you’re into it, I shot some fun videos of my trip for that event. You can find them on my blog or Facebook.

Anyway, this month a product launched by the name of the Arbitrage Conspiracy which was a product of that event. In case you’ve been hibernating under a rock and you didn’t hear all the buzz, the story goes that three young fellas from Canada were consistently pulling in as much as 150,000 dollars PER day online using Pay Per Click. What was more interesting to me was that Aymen, the main speaker at the event told me that they spent between 50-100 thousand dollars a day on pay per click ads alone.

Naturally, when I was invited by my friend Mike Dillard to attend and represent Magnetic Sponsoring there, I jumped up. Within a few days I got on a plane and flew over from Jordan to Vegas!

There wasn’t a great deal of difference between what they were doing with CPA and what i was doing with home business opportunity leads using pay per click. I used Google Adwords and Yahoo they used Adwords and Yahoo. They also used MSN and some other smaller and less trafficked pay per click engines–which honestly i can’t be bothered with right now. I tried MSN before and their conversion tracking was making mistakes so I abandoned it.

Also, Aymen’s team were making customised landing pages for each keyword and placing a single keyword in each adgroup–and so was I.

None of their keyword research tools were new to me. They used the Google tool mainly, a few misspell and typo generators, word combiners, alexa, and so on–i was doing that already.

But i learned two very important lessons. One was the use of automation tools to build up massive keyword lists and upload them all in one shot. Obviously they didn’t filter these keywords too much becuase no one could do that to a list of 1 million words. Their strategy was to first sweep the market with these million keywords and find keyword types and themes that showed SOME results with low bids. And by tracking the keywords that worked, they would kill the ones that wouldn’t convert. And they would laser target their attack to improve their click rates, click costs, and conversion rates.

So as soon as I got home, I got to work.

I pulled up alexa and used its related sites feature to find domains in the network marketing and home business industry. A small list of about 50 domain names came out. I then used a typo and misspelling generator tool to turn that into a list of around 800,000 keywords.

Oh but Google’s quality score would shut me DOWN if i tried to upload those keywords to my account. Instead, i posted them to Yahoo becuase it’s less strict. Several hours and yahoo accounts later, i had the keywords all ready to go.

Ok, let’s pause for a minute. I’m in phase 1 right now. Remember the 3 challenges i have to go through? Impressions, clicks, and conversion.

Right now, I’m focused on phase 1 ONLY. Keywords that get impressions. That’s all i care about.

Well Yahoo gave me impressions–very few. In my experience, Yahoo has always been weaker than Google for the Home Business niche–maybe someone else has better luck with Yahoo than i do, i dont know.

Not to worry. What’s next?

Well, I’ve gotta take this stuff into Google where there’s lots of fish. Out of the 800,000 keywords, i had to choose! I sorted all the campaigns by impressions and took the top 4 keywords from each campaign.

Now I still worry about the Google Quality Score since i’m really not focusing on Click Thru Rate or conversions–i want to keep my landing page generic. So i figured i’ll place these keywords on the Google content network first. Again, that’s a much less strict place to advertise than is the Google search.

I ran this for a few days and lo-and-behold…not only did i get impressions and clicks, but i got a super high conversion rate!

Now i get about 16 new conversions from that little experiment. Not bad but i gotta get disciplined about repeating this a few more times.

Go try this out for yourselves and let me know how it works. Meanwhile, i’m gonna go fight my demons and report to you in a few days.

Take Care.

Just another weekend at an Amman cafe

This is just for fun guys and gals.

My brother and I usually go out on the weekend to one of about three coffee spots. “Doors” is a main one we frequent that attracts a hip young crowd from the neighbouring Jordan University. We love it there because it’s just the right combination of service, atmosphere, and food. Of course there’s the hookah and coffee too as well as an English-speaking crowd.

The owner, a young Irbidi fella usually comes over and says hello when we visit. I admire his fine business ethic and pleasant personality!

On this particular night, i shot a video because my poor brother couldn’t come out with us. He had a tough 5th year Civil Engineering exam the next day and was suffering from pain in his eye.

We didn’t want him to feel like he missed much so here it is:

How the Heck is Jim Gonna Get 1,000 MLM Leads/Day With Pay Per Click Ads!?

Hey guys and girls it’s jim yaghi here!

Welcome to the first of my Coffee Adventures video series. I’ve been thinking about starting a video diary for a while and i procrastinated on it long enough. With 2009 round the corner, it’s my goal to keep regular entries throughout the year. So let’s see how this pans out!

Jim’s Coffee adventures is just something i thought of because i love spending time in coffee shops around the world. Not that i like the taste of coffee…i have to put like 4 tablespoons of sugar and chocolate and vanilla and cinnamon just to make it bearable. But this all started back in Sydney when i was a poor broke student. I was hanging out at coffee shops so i could meet new people to network with–and it was there i learned to become an alpha recruiter.

This is my first adventure and it’s a tough one.

You might already know this about me–i’m obsessed with Paid search engine marketing particularly pay per click with Google Adwords and Yahoo. And since July, I’ve managed to pull a steady 150 leads almost EVERY day for my primary business.

Now I’ve got a few projects in the works with a friend of mine and we realised that for it to work, i’m gonna need to step up my lead generation to 1,000 leads per day some how.

I’d love to tell you that it’s just a matter of throwing more money on ads or something like that but it’s not. The only reason i’m not generating 1000 leads a day already is that i’ve hit an obstacle.

Somebody suggested that i’ve pretty much tapped out all the traffic there is to be had on Pay Per Click.

I think i’ve barely scratched the surface.

How do i know?

Well, here’s what i think:

I am friends with 3 major MLM players who generate home business opportunity leads with pay per click. Each of them gets approximately 100 or so daily leads. So between me and them we’re generating at least 450 leads daily. And that’s just the people i know!

So I’m pretty sure that there’s at least that meany leads a day out there…waiting for me in pay per click. And i can have them as soon as i overcome this obstacle!

I’ll fill you in on what that is in a second, but first…here’s where you come in.

Over the next few weeks and maybe months, i’m going to keep you posted about everything i tried, what worked and what didn’t. This way, you can pull some nuggets to use in your own marketing. And hey, if you follow along with me, by the time this adventure is done, you could be generating hundreds of leads for your own business using Pay Per Click marketing.

So if you like, click in this video to view it in youtube, then post a reply video and tell me what you’ve been trying, what’s working, and what’s not. Feel free to use screen shots, props, skits, and friends to demonstrate with. It’s up to you–or just watch silently!

Whenever i face a challenge with pay per click, i divide it into 3 phases. they are 1) Impressions, 2) clicks, and 3) conversions. Because that’s pretty much all there is to creating a profitable campaign in pay per click. And they have to be in this order to make sense–i mean, no point working on writing a perfect ad that gets a high click rate if i’m not getting impressions to begin with for example.

That’s why my first challenge is to generate impressions for my ads. I dont care if they get clicked or if they sell or make money–i just need many many many people from the right audience to see my ads.

What better way to do that than by finding new and related keywords to trigger the ads?

Easier said than done. This is my obstacle. Since July, I have tried and I can’t seem to find appropriate keywords not already in my campaign. They’re always either infrequently searched or not what i would consider relevant. Now, I’m about to change that!

Stay tuned to hear the rest of the plan!
