How to Get Inspiration for Blog Posts and Emails

If you write often, you’re going to need a steady source of ideas for topics to blog about. Use these 7 tips to get your creative juices flowing so you can write any time, anywhere!

As my friend Ben Settle would say, the secret word for all marketing, is the F-Word.

Not that F-Word. What I’m talking about is FREQUENCY.

Your blog traffic will go up a thousand-fold. Your email sales will go to 30, and 40%…just by writing frequently.

The trouble is, however, coming up with daily writing ideas is not easy. Writer’s block is our worst enemy.

Here are some methods I use to get inspiration to write daily:

1. Blogs and RSS Feeds

It’s a shame that RSS feeds are so under-used in the Marketing industry. To be a true blogger, you need to become an avid Blog-Reader. Popular Bloggers are usually subscribed to other blogs on topics they are interested in. They scan and read them daily.

An RSS Reader allows you to subscribe to any number of blogs and keep up with every new post as it becomes live.

You can subscribe to any blog’s feed by adding /rss or /rss2 to the end of their homepage URL. Plug it into an RSS Reader like the Google Reader and you’re ready to roll.

Posts are saved for you just like your own personal magazine subscription. The Google Reader will even make intelligent recommendations about other blogs you might like! I’ve been stuck reading recommended blogs for hours.

Other bloggers have insight into a variety of topics. Keep up with what they blog about, and you’ll soon find an interesting opinion to agree or disagree with. Participate in the discussion by writing about topics others are already reading!

2. Read Books

I know most of us are too busy to read; there’s so much information out there and we have to sometimes filter it.

Reading is important for inspiration. I solved the problem for myself by making it part of my daily routine to read only 5-pages at a time. Any time I take a small break from work, have a few moments to spare, or have dead time waiting for something, I’ll whip out my book and read 5 pages.

You’ll be amazed at how quickly you’ll be able to read.

Read everything and anything!

Soon you will find that the ideas of others inspire you with ideas of your own. Write about them.

3. Watch More TV

Television is one of the fastest ways to consume a lot of information very quickly.

Allocate some time daily to watch something on TV. It will fuel your creative juices.

If nothing else, you’ll find that most dramas will teach you plenty about how to engage and entertain others. Television Series in particular have great examples of story-telling, weaving, time-distortion, revelations, and cliff-hangers.

Watch more tv to inspire your writing!

4. Keep Up With the Latest News

While the news can be depressing, it doesn’t change the fact that everyone is interested in current events.

Watch the news, read it online, read a newspaper, subscribe to magazines…anything that keeps you up-to-date with the latest will give you great ideas to make your blogging current and interesting.

One of the best methods I use is to check the Daily Trends at You’ll find out what the collective world is interested in right now–and you’ll be shown top news articles about it.

Read current events and write!

5. Check Your Analytics Reports

Google Analytics will tell you which keywords people are searching and discovering at your website.

This is a clue. Your website visitors may land at your website but not find what they were looking for–give them the content they want.

Use the keywords in your analytics reports to inspire ideas for your latest posts.

6. Join Forum Discussions

There are discussion forums for ANY topic of interest. They are rich in discussion topics At forums, people share opinions, advice, and ask questions.

Go ahead and become a forum subscriber and user. Whenever there is a heated debate on something, this is a perfect opportunity to write a post with your opinion.

Share your opinions in the forum, then turn them into blog posts at your website.

I’ve even found un-answered questions in the forum, created posts responding to them, and then posted at the forum the link to my response.

Be careful some blogs have policies that restrict you from promoting your own content in your forum post body. You’ll find, however, most forum participants will be grateful for the time you took to write a response at your website!

7. Talk to Others Often

This is a favourite source of inspiration for me. I engage in hours of intellectual and philosophical conversation with industry friends, partners, and mentors.

Why not take whatever debate you have with your friends and turn it into a blog post?

That’s where many of my best posts started…in a conversation with someone else.

You might even wish to record the conversation and post it as a podcast to your blog.

Hopefully these 7 ideas will help you become a more creative writer. Try them out and remember to write FREQUENTLY.

PPC Domination Prize List and Qualification Criteria

Only 4 days left until the launch of PPC Domination.

And if you follow my instructions here, I can help you feast your eyes on a fat 4- or 5-figure commission in your Paypal by January 31st. And I’m not even talking about the $3,000.00 cash prize or the 15″ MacBook Pro laptop that some lucky, lucky, lucky girl or guy is gonna end up with by winning the affiliate contest.

With every Magnetic Sponsoring launch, people like David Schwind, Fernando Ceballos, Raymond Fong, and myself  cash in big time. And I don’t think any of us have ever been the official “winners” either. Though we’ve been strong contenders in any case.

There’s a simple formula each of us uses. Anyone, no matter how small-time can duplicate it just as easily and have a 4- or 5- figure month this month:

1. Change Your Signature

Change your forum signature in all the forums you participate in. Insert a link to your affiliate landing page.

Even in betternetworker where most of the Magnetic Sponsoring crowd hang out, you can still get sales. In fact, about 80% of the commissions I earned during launches came directly from the community website! Remember, many members in the forum have never bought any MS product yet.

And, more importantly, the forum is visible and accessible to public searches in all the search engines.

A good signature will make use of the visibility from ALL of your past forum postings. And as for future ones, this is around the time I start participating in the forums a lot more. So go ahead and look for threads you can add value to!

2. Create a YouTube Review of PPC Domination

Get out your webcam, flip cam, or even use Camtasia and record your screen. Make a short and sweet YouTube video (1 or 2 minutes) focused around the benefit people will get by opting in for the freebie offered on the product launch page. Tell people what they can hope to learn once they register on your affiliate landing page. At the end of the video, make sure to post your personal affiliate page inside the footage.

Windows Movie Maker (free with windows) and other similar programs allow you to add titles. Use the “title” feature to tell people your affiliate link. It’s register your own domain and forward to it so you don’t lose commissions.

Don’t assume that because you put the URL in the description you won’t need it in the video too. Your video may be embeded in other websites and blogs without the attached text content. If that happens, you want your URL visible in the video itself!

When YouTube asks you for a text description, either write the transcript of what you say in the video or leave it blank for now. I’ve got another step later that will help you fill it out. But make sure you paste the link to your affiliate URL right at the top of the description before everythign else. This ensures it’s visible without viewers having to click “more info”.

Your video title should at least have the name of the product and one benefit of it. For example, with PPC Domination, your title may be, “How to Generate 200 MLM Leads / Day Using PPC Domination ” or “5 Deadly Mistakes Network Marketers Make With PPC”.

3. Write an Article

Articles should be educational or informative. Their purpose is similar to that of the YouTube video you uploaded. Give your reader an evaluation of the product if you already have it or give a summary of the benefits people can expect from the information contained in the product.

An article is quick to write. You only need 400 words.

4. Post Your Article to Your Blog

If you have a blog, post your article there first. This will mark to the search engines that this is the “source” of the content because your RSS feed will be read earliest.

Link the name of the product to the your affiliate landing page. Also, at the bottom of the article, add a prominent link to your page with a direct call to action. Then go back and copy the embed code from YouTube for your video and paste it somewhere in this article’s blog entry somewhere appropriate.

You can even add a banner to your blog for the duration of the launch to help increase your reach.

5. Copy Your Article Into YouTube

If you didn’t use a transcript in your YouTube video, just copy directly your entire article and paste it as the description of the video you posted to YouTube earlier. Make sure that your URL still appears at the VERY top of the video submission though.

This step helps the search engines find your video better because search engines are hungry for text. And you would have just given them a whole bunch of recycled text in the video description!

6. Copy Your Article into Squidoo

Create a squidoo lens around your PPC Domination article. Include your YouTube video too. Make sure you link back to the same article in your blog. (Don’t link to the main home page of your blog or it’s pointless). Also, within the lens, have a direct call to action that asks people to go get your freebie from your affiliate URL.

7. Submit Your Article

Use Ezine Articles to submit your article again. Remove all links from within the body of your article or it will be rejected. The review process can take an entire week after submission so do this soon.

Don’t forget to remove any promotional/salesy content within the article itself. Your bio line is the only place you’re allowed to have a direct call to action. Use it wisely and send people directly to the same article in your blog post.

Repeat the same process by submitting the article to the betternetworker website.

8. Share Your Video

Bookmark your video with digg and And post it to your Facebook profile too.

9. Share Your Blog Post

Bookmark your blog post with digg and And make sure that Facebook is importing notes from your blog.

10. Tweet About It

Write a twitter entry to your blog. If you use the Twitter application on Facebook you can even get it to update your Facebook status to match your twitter update! That’s a smart way to put your new blog post in front of your Facebook buddies–all those annoying people who have been adding you to look at their bizops can see it.

11. Write a Press Release (really profitable!!)

This is one of my favourite methods of promotion–particularly useful when there is a product launch.

A press release is a kind of ad directed at news reporters and bloggers. You’re trying to sell them on a story or new, newsworthy event. If reporters likes your story, they will investigate further (sometimes by contacting you). The result is multiple blog entries and RSS syndicated content throughout the web, and possible exposure offline when people write news based on your release!

The best press releases are short and about two paragraphs in length. They evoke curiosity.

In the body of the release or in the “closing” details, send the reader directly to your affiliate landing page for more information.

I usually pay for press releases but you have the option to submit them free. If you submit a free press release your links won’t be blue and clickable. This means search engines won’t recognise them and give love to your site. Also, it means if a reader of your release wants to get more info they need to copy and paste the URL into their address bar.

A paid press release submission allows you to place active links in your entry. It’s up to you which you choose depending on your budget. I submit press releases at where you may choose free or paid options.

I highly recommend that you at least consider spending $10. In my experience, the reviewers aren’t so strict on your release when it’s a paid submission.

12. Blast Your Email List

No matter how small your list size, just send out an E-Mail and ask them to check out the new product. Pass on your affiliate URL.

13. Go Do It Now

Don’t put it off until the launch. Otherwise you’re gonna miss it! Most of the action happens BEFORE the product is launched when everyone is buzzing about it. You have 4 days to fill your pipeline. And when the doors open, everyone you gather over the next 4 days will get a chance to buy.

You will earn commissions not only on the sale of PPC Domination, but on every subsequent sale that follows.

That’s it folks. How much does all of this cost?

Money Spent: $0.00

Time Spent:

  • 30 minutes to write article,
  • 30 minutes to record and edit video,
  • 30 minutes to write a press release,
  • 30 minutes to submit and share
  • Total = 2 hours of work.

Revenue Generated: $1,000-$10,000

I kid you not my friend. I have used this very list at each launch and earned NO less than $1,000 and as much as $10,000. I did this in the early days of hardship and I am doing it even right now.

Do people jump from MLM to Internet Marketing?

Last week, Andrea asked an uncomfortable and provactive question in the betternetworker forum.

And I must admit, for a long time, I dodged this particular question whenever anyone else asked. Mainly because I didn’t know the answer. And now I know. So, here’s her question below and my response:

Hey there!

Last week, Andrea asked an uncomfortable and provactive question in the betternetworker forum.

Do people jump from MLM to IM?

Postby AndreaVahl on 21 Dec 2008 14:41

Does it seem like people who start bringing their MLM business to the internet get pulled into Internet Marketing and affiliate marketing? Is IM easier than MLM? Are people having more success selling an e-book than selling their MLM opportunity? Just some questions I’ve been kicking around and curious what others thought….
To Your Success,

Could it be true?

Do network marketers who get online looking for better ways to market their business end up getting sucked into Internet Marketing?

Of course, the answer is YES. But not just because it’s somehow inherintly “easier”.

Below is a copy of my response to Andrea, directly from the forum:

The simple answer is “Yes”….

Oh, yah i had more. But I hesitate to say because it’s controversial. We’re all grown ups here, no one’s gonna get cry because of this, right?

The True Story of How Stuff Happened

MLM is how we’ve come to label those marketing opportunities stuck in the stone age. They don’t have systems suitable for online and they don’t train people to use online lead generation methods.

The reason is that no one has bothered to tell those company founders about this strange new invention called”The Internet”.

I discovered it a few years ago, and it’s really good.

Apparently, as it turns out, it lets you educate customers and sell your products lightning fast, for a fraction of the cost of doing it using television ads and celebrity endorsements–it lets you cut out the middle man and sell direct to the customer. (Oooohh exciting!)

And you can get an army of entrepreneurs and “wannabe” entrepreneurs to go market your stuff for you with money from their own pocket and time out of their own day. Then you pay them on the sales they make.

Anyway, what happened is that members of these archaic MLM companies are people who never heard of affiliate programs (nor the internet). They went around telling their friends and family who also never heard of affiliate programs about their stone age opportunity. Some of their friends and family jumped on board because they wanted to make more money in their lives.

Poor unsuspecting people. They didn’t know any better. Money didn’t rain from the sky for them. Lucky for them, another friend came and told them about the latest innovation in technology called “The Internet”where they can go and learn opportunity-selling skills.

OMGGGG, suddenly they were exposed to modern marketing companies that sell products, design training, build tools, and create systems suited for reaching, educating, and selling to an infinite supply of customers with the world as their audience. This “The Internet” thing is rather useful! Holy Smoke!

And the entrepreneur-in-the-making suddenly realised–that instead of having to build systems and tools and training from scratch for their backward company, he/she can start a business positioned for the 21 century. Not the stone age. (As we all know, that passed long ago).

So, that, Andrea is the true story of why people leave “MLM” and become “IM” instead. Thank you for your deep and probing question–i thought no one would ever ask it.

Affiliate Marketing and Internet Marketing are the new age of Direct Selling (Multi level marketing, Network Marketing, Home Business).

“What about the residual income? You can’t get that in affiliate marketing!”

Umm….actually, you can. And you don’t have to train or recruit any reps to do it either.

Before I show you some examples, let’s agree on a definition of “residual income”: Money earned and collected many times from a past effort.

In traditional Network Marketing (offline), recruiting new people and putting customers on autoship is the only way to create “residual income”.

Internet Marketing allows you to skip the recruiting aspect of Home Business so you can focus on what actually matters–the selling of the company’s product:

Here are some ways that I personally earn a residual income through Internet marketing:

1.  Sales Letters (or Pre-sales letters)

When I create a sales presentation in writing or video and place it on the web, I never give the same presentation again.

  • The letter may be read/viewed hundreds, thousands, or millions of times with no additional effort.
  • The letter may sell hundreds, thousands, or millions of times forever with no additional effort.

2.  Forum Posts

I generate hundreds of leads every day from forum posts I made in September, 2007.

3. Blog Posting / Twitter / Facebook

I recruit tens of reps from posts I wrote over two years ago. They never get wiped away, and the search engines index them so new people discover them all the time!

4. Email/Autoresponder lists

The email messages you load into your autoresponder continue to be sent out automatically every day, to every subscriber that signs up.

I put over 5,000 NEW people every month through the same messages I wrote two years ago.

5. Product Launches and Affiliate Products

If you maintain your list of email subscribers carefully, you can make money from the SAME people many times over.

Last month, we launched a new training product to our email list. With one short email in about 4 hours, we  grossed over $160,000 in sales without spending a single bit of extra effort (or money) to bring new leads.

6. PPC Advertising

Pay Per Click ads are one of the easiest ways i know to generate traffic on autopilot. It takes a bit of skill initially to set them up, but once you push the button they keep working.

Me and my business partner (between us) bring in 10,000 leads per month using PPC–and we pushed that button nearly a year ago.

Now you tell me, if the internet were to give you THAT much leverage, what do you need to sign up new distributors for?

I don’t tell you this to suggest you turn all your applicants away. Only weaklings.

Once in a while, you’ll see someone who has the potential and dedication to learn what you know. And in those instances, allow yourself to invest in training them so they add power to your team.

The rest are leaches. They steal time and add little value.

In the new age of Network Marketing, the internet replaces them.
