Okay, looks like I’m in good company in that case – let’s take a closer look at how to use WordPress to pack a little extra weight when battling for attention online.

There are a number of different things you can do to ensure that you’re getting the most out of your blog but this is by no means a complete guide to WordPress customisation.

Take the tips below and try them out to see what kind of results can be achieved by blogging. If you’re happy with what you find – keep it up!

3 tips for making the most of your blog:

1. Customise The Header

Don’t follow the pack! Do something different and get a unique design that matches your personal or business brand in terms of colour, tone and style. If you have the funds available, run a competition on a site like 99 Designs to find a logo design you fall in love with and incorporate this into the design of your header.

Make it bold, bright and memorable but most of all make it your own!

2. Pack a Little Extra Punch With the Right Plugins

My favourites…

WP Customer Reviews – This is a great free plugin that allows your customers and visitors to leave reviews or testimonials of your product or service. It’s simple to configure and, in the eyes of the search engines, adds a little authority to your articles too.

Socializer! – There are dozens of plugins that let your visitors share your content with their social networks but this one is very slick and visually appealing, while still allowing your fans and followers to tweet, digg, share and syndicate until the cows come home. (The plugin works just as well with WP MU for those of you building sites by the bucket-full).

Google ‘Plus one’ Button by kms – This is the best of the plugins designed to make  the most of Google Plus. The plugin allows you to position the G +1 icon above and below posts to encourage readers to give your content a little Google love.

These three plugins alone will put you streets ahead of the competition and offer your readers options to interact with your content – a recipe for increased visibility in search and exposure across the social web.

3. Structure Your Site Like A Pro

Think of your blog like a city centre full of shops, restaurants and places to visit and meet friends for a drink. If the place is a mess and difficult to navigate, it’s unlikely to get too many people coming back to it. If you were the Mayor of the City wouldn’t you want it to be easy for people to find their way around and wouldn’t you want the people who came to visit to come back?

So, why do so many bloggers fill their site with crap and confuse the Hell out of their visitors so that they never want to return?

Your site should be simple and easy to navigate with a page structure that makes sense to your reader. Use a top navigation menu for pages and make it easy for readers to find content they’re interested in by incorporating a search bar and related posts. Build it right and they will not only come…they’ll come back!

I’m not sure about you, but I associate replicated pages with spammers, newbies and those who lack creativity.

This guy pops up on Facebook chat the other day…full of enthusiasm he says, “Ewan, how’s business going?” and in the next split second I replied.

BOOM! And back he came with,

“…you should take a look at this,” and a link…

I mean, by asking one lousy question, do you really think this will make me buy from you or join your team?

Most of the time I ignore things like this, but every now and again I’m in the mood to try and save these people. I replied, “dude, you’re not making many sales are you?”

I felt his enthusiasm turn into heartache and after a few back and forths he asked me…

“So How Do I Advertise My Replicated Website?”

Uhm, you don’t 😉 well, not upfront anyway!

The Problem With Replicated Sites

Okay, where do I start…

Problem 1

They all look the same. How do you stamp your authority, or set yourself apart, when you are shoving the same link in people’s faces that thousands of others are too? You look the same as EVERYBODY else. You need to be unique in the market place. To top it all off, this strategy is usually extremely ineffective as well.

Problem 2

Replicated sites tend to focus on the company and how awesome they are. Your potential customers are looking to have a problem they are suffering from solved! Who cares if a company has its headquarters in a gazillion square feet next to Dave’s Ice Cream Parlour on the sunny coast of M.I.S.S.I.S.S.I.P.P.I. (now close your eyes and spell it backwards). 😉

Problem 3

I have seen first hand how using these sites can damage your reputation and your business. If you generate leads within a company’s generic system, some so-called leaders have access to them and have been known to ‘steal leads’ from unsuspecting victims. I have also seen the unique link not work correctly. After you’ve done all the hard work, and made a sale, the commission goes to another *ahem* entrepreneur.

Problem 4

What happens if the company goes out of business? You’re left with nothing. No income, no websites, no ‘system’ which you relied on so heavily, and no business.

But It’s Not All Doom And Gloom

Listen, Network Marketing and Affiliate marketing can provide incomes like politicians can provide bull-poo…

…IF, you do it right. :)

If you’re to survive on the Internet, your business needs 2 things:

  • A Website
  • Somewhere to store data you collect, i.e. email address, etc.

Oh, and something to sell. :)

Any advertising you do should lead to YOUR website. Any emails you collect go to YOUR list. Then you market what you have to sell to YOUR list.

*Example*

You market a home business, collect leads through your website, THEN you use the company’s sign up page for new people to join your team. Because the lead went through your own funnel you have more than likely earned trust and respect from this person; the selling part becomes easy. :)

D’ya follow? Now you’re bullet-proof.

This way, once you have made the sale, you can market over and over to the same people as long as they remain on your list.

Do Guaranteed Traffic Sites Really Work?

Don’t be misled by claims from some guaranteed traffic companies that they can deliver targeted traffic.

Hey, sure, guaranteed traffic sites work. They get you traffic and may even result in the odd sale or sign-up, but it’s a strategy for the lazy who are desperate for leads. They really can’t be bothered building a real business, so they look for the ‘quick fix’ type of marketing. :)

Here’s The Problem With Guaranteed Traffic

These offers are downright scams and these companies deliver bogus traffic in many different ways. Some companies will simply use “bots” that constantly visit your website until it reaches the hits they promise. Many customers report when they analyzed their traffic logs they received all the traffic from one IP address.

Paying for raw traffic like this is a waste of money. Most “guaranteed traffic” services use pop-unders which may cause your domain to become flagged by some anti-adware/security software programs. Additionally, don’t be misled by claims from some “guaranteed traffic” companies that they can deliver targeted traffic. They are still presenting your web site to people who DID NOT ask for it.

They Play On Your Emotion

You need traffic so bad you will do anything to get it. I remember it well, selling your own grandmother for some traffic action seemed like a viable option. :)

So you agree to pay a company $0.01, or sometimes $0.02, per person they can get to your website.

However…

The people these traffic scams are getting to click on your link are not people who really care about your business. They are people who are getting paid to click on your site.

Yes, these sites offer to split YOUR money with the person who clicks on your link.

If you still think it sounds like a good deal then by all means go and test it, but start really small.

Become A Real Entrepreneur

I’d say this is your best option. Put everything in place you need to run a real business. Learn how to generate traffic that converts to sales.

1. Do you need a blog?

Silly question maybe but you must have a blog in order to earn revenue from it. So the short answer is yes.

Even if you don’t envision your blog as creating revenue, it’s a source of credibility for your target audience. The first thing your potential audience will do is check out your blog. It is a reflection of what you do and how you do it.

No website = no credibility = no business.

2. What are your business goals?

A blog isn’t a business.

Having clear written goals for your business will greatly improve the effectiveness of your blog. If you don’t have a clear understanding of what you do (for business), you’ll never know if your website is working.

Take some time to write out your main business goals. Then you’ll have a good picture about how your blog can be a vehicle to help you reach those goals.

3. What is your target audience’s biggest problem?

Hopefully your blog isn’t all about you. It’s supposed to be about your target audience; if you want to make money that is.

Your audience visits your site because they have a problem. Make sure to solve it for them.

4. Who’s going to write the content and take the photos for your blog?

You need content, and lots of it, to earn money from a blog.

5. How will your site be kept up-to-date?

Current and relevant content is key.

6. How do you drive traffic to your website?

Once your website is live, you’ll need to attract visitors to your blog.

One crucial source will be the search engines. While you are developing your blog you’ll need to perform keyword research and analysis to know what type of searches your prospects are doing on Google. Then work those keywords into the content on your web pages.

7. How do you keep in touch with visitors after they’ve left your blog?

As difficult as it is to get people to visit your site, it’s even harder to get them to return. Your goal is to get permission to stay in contact with them after they’ve left.

So you’re going to want to have some variety of “bait” to get people to subscribe to your email newsletter.

8. How will you get people to take action at your blog?

This is an important question given that the purpose of your blog is to turn visitors into leads and leads into revenue.

9. What should you expect to spend?

From blog design to PPC advertising, how much can you spend (i.e. what is your budget) for acquiring leads and customers?

10. How do you know if any of this is working?

We recommend Google Analytics.

With Google Analytics, you can track how much traffic your blog is getting, where it’s coming from, and if your visitors are taking the actions you want them to take while on your blog.

In Google Analytics you can set up goals. Goals allow you to know if people are…say…signing up for your email newsletter, filling out your contact form or buying. Then you can trackback and see where your most valuable traffic is coming from.

The main objective of blogging is to get readers, lots of readers…and earn money, lots of money. Sharing the content from a great blog on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Digg, StumbleUpon, will also attract many additional viewers. If you’re confident your stuff is good, you may even gain followers by doing some paid marketing. However, most blogs are about as much use as tits on a bull!

I got this email yesterday from a pissed off blogger:

I don’t want to sound like a whiner here but I have been blogging now for about 10 months, and to be frank, I’m no further ahead than when I started. I bought *********** and followed it to the word. Purchased my domain and spent ages getting my site sexy and SEO’d. Commenting on other peoples blogs, trackbacks and forum postings are part of my daily routine. In fact, I do EVERYTHING they teach and then some yet I have made only a handful of sales and have not reached over 50 leads yet.

What the hell am I doing wrong???

Whoa dude. Well, firstly, come and talk to me before you get so stressed out. :) Secondly, give yourself a pat on the back. 50 leads, some sales and the determination to figure it all out put you 95% further on than, well, 95% of the others!

It bugs me why every gooroo teaches the importance of having your own domain and shiny site. I can show you as many examples of extremely succesful bloggers who blog on a ready to go platform such as Blogger or WordPress. Oh, and these platforms have a premade audience ready to read. 😉

It’s all very well having an awesome looking website but if nobody sees it then all those hours of programming have been wasted.

The content you provide is waaaay more important than the actual blog. I mean, some of the best parties I have been to were not in the best houses. 😉

This is the hard bit right? I believe it’s due to a lack of creativity and passion. Especially in the biz op market. Thousands of little clones blog about ‘how to make money online’ – fact is, they don’t know how to make money online. It’s all rehashed nonsense.

Absolutely anything! You’re only limited by your imagination. My buddy made sales from an email he wrote about toilet roll!

When you come up with ideas, figure out how you can turn them into a story and link it to your business. I suggest you spend most of your time doing such things rather than all sorts of crap like commenting on other peoples blogs, etc.

Words To Ponder

When I write, I want my finished article to do one of the following for my reader…

  • Educate
  • Entertain
  • Intrigue

Dude, seriously, if you make your readers laugh they will love you! Get passionate and write about interesting stuff. Forget the usual shitty posts about ‘how to make money online’.

How To Get Conversions

Increase your sales without spending more money!

So you’ve got a bazillion visitors to your website but only limited sales…what gives? While having many people stop by your site or landing page is certainly desirable, converting the traffic (regardless of volume) should be your number one priority. Let’s take a look at a few things you can do to accomplish this:

Simplicity and Clarity

If your goal is to have someone sign up for your free newsletter then make sure this is the primary focus of your website. While addressing your buyers’ needs and wants, define your key visitor tasks (i.e. what you want them to do) and guide them through each one.

For example, when a potential customer arrives at your site, the first thing you want them to do is watch a brief video, read a related article then sign up for your newsletter. Simply place the video in a prominent position near the top of the page, have it start playing automatically and (from within the video) direct them to the article below. Your newsletter opt in form can then be placed beside the video and below the article giving your potential client two clear options to take action and sign up for your offer.

The easier your site is to navigate and use, the more likely people will be to stick around and convert. Make sure to give concise directions and maintain complete transparency.

Minimize Distractions

In the Internet era of instant and easily accessible information, it’s imperative to keep your audience attentive to your message. Placing flashing banners in their line of sight, offering a million links to recommended articles, or directing your potential buyers to other opportunities can be a major distraction and WILL affect your bottom line.

Maintain focus on your conversion goal. Design your page to guide people toward a desired result. In the case of a newsletter opt in, place your sign up form in a prominent position on the page and provide little opportunity to navigate away from this spot.

Test, Learn and Apply

Rather than worry exclusively about increasing the number of visitors to your site, you should work on maximizing the buying potential of all existing traffic. In order to do this you will need to constantly test, analyze, learn from the testing then apply changes accordingly.

Never be satisfied with what you have now. Every element of your sales page including design, ad copy and overall content CAN be improved based on conversion analytics and customer feedback. You need not spend enormous amounts of money to accomplish this either. All you require is diligence, perseverance and to “keep your finger on the pulse” of your prospects.

Why Does Google Dislike Affiliate Websites?

Google doesn’t dislike affiliate marketing. What they dislike are obvious manipulations used to mimic popularity. Google has made its required standards clear. Read closely if you’re an affiliate (or hope to be), and want to be “liked” by Google.

The Standards Required By Google Are Clear

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, because people are still asking, “Why does Google dislike affiliate websites?”

You must have unique and quality content.

You must create user-friendly material that enhances the overall experience for every “Googler.”

This is the most important determination of whether you have success as an affiliate marketer, article marketer, PPC marketer, network marketer – any kind of marketer.

Yet so many affiliate marketers have chosen short term “shady” marketing methods which end up outright failing the whole system.

 

Google Places A No Solicitation Sign On Their Doors

Any business owner would do the same, but let’s consider it from Google’s perspective.

Google doesn’t want affiliate websites which are not unique. Too many websites are using the same designs, tools and strategies in the exact same places.

Google doesn’t want to become overpopulated with the same duplicated affiliate websites, advertisements and affiliate offers containing the same link.

Therefore, Google has had to develop a way to not only recognize these duplicated affiliate items but also a way to block them from appearing in search results and their ads.

Google doesn’t necessarily dislike affiliate websites, however, people who use Google to search have a tendency to dislike affiliate websites.

What they dislike is how many of these affiliate websites encourage bad practices.

For this reason, Google has no problem with giving any advertiser the “Slap” when it seems they are practicing these tactics.

So it may be unfair to point the finger at Google. They want happy customers. If their customers have a tendency to dislike affiliate websites, then they’re not going to click on your ads, or worse, they’ll complain.

CTR (click through rate) could be considered a determination of whether Google “likes” you or not.

It’s the people who start to recognize the same tactics being used, and choose not to click your ad, who will not visit your affiliate website.

As your CTR and bounce rate starts to drop, Google realizes that your ad and website are not at all relevant to that group of searchers.

If You’re An Affiliate (Or Hope To Be), Here Is A Way For Google To Like You?

In order for a website to appear as a good quality site using good practices, Google is looking for a lot more pages than just an About Us, Contact Us and Privacy Policy page.

The pages to include are as follows:

  • About Us
  • Contact Us
  • Privacy Policy
  • DMCA Policy
  • Anti-Spam Policy
  • Terms of Use
  • Affiliate Agreement

Most affiliate websites do not have these pages and are therefore looked upon as a website that could potentially cause a bad end-user experience.

Also consider the following “brand presence” elements:

  • Links to your Twitter and/or Facebook profile.
  • Your personal or professional mission statement.
  • Free training, or any focused content element.
  • Blog that has fresh, updated content.

The Key Is To Consistently Maintain A Reputable Website

Don’t neglect the fact that the product you choose to promote will have an impact and reflect upon your reputation.

If you associate yourself and your website with trash then Google doesn’t want to be associated with your website.

Also, make sure you know the product you’re promoting. Respect the customer by offering a webpage with valuable content and not a page full of keywords and affiliate links.

Your website must have more of a purpose than to redirect shoppers to another site to purchase. This is called a “thin” affiliate site.

Provide a service or offer informative content to help your visitors make an informed decision on the product they are considering purchasing.

How Does PPC Tracking Work?

Without PPC tracking your PPC campaign will not survive. You will not make any money, in fact you will lose a lot of money. There are ways to avoid this happening to you.

Pay Per Click (ppc) tracking is essential to any campaign if it’s to be successful. Most of the ppc platforms themselves have decent tracking facilities but there are also external tools, such as Google Analytics, you can use.

Get this wrong and you will LOSE a ton of money; believe me. 😉

It’s important to track everything. The two most important numbers are CTR (click through rate) and sales.

CTR determines how successful your ad is at pulling customers into your site while sales, quite obviously, show you how well you convert visitors to buyers.

So How Does PPC Tracking Work?

Impressions, CTR and CPC (cost per click) are measured inside the ppc platform.

Conversion tracking can be done within most search marketing services or you can use other available software.

For example, tracking inside Google involves placing a cookie on a user’s computer when they click on an ad. If the user clicks on your Google PPC ad, and reaches one of your conversion pages, their browser sends a cookie to the Google server. Then a small conversion tracking image is displayed on your site. When such a match is made, Google records a successful conversion for you.

The ability to see the performance of each keyword is also crucial. This is achieved by producing and closely analysing 2 reports…

The google keyword report (for cost information)

and

Your sales report (from your web analytics tool). In addition, you can tag the keyword destination URL in order to gather even more accurate data. There are other methods which can be used but these are the basics. With this info you can tweak your campaign and target/add converting keywords to your list.

Yes I know,

for the beginner, on the outside looking in, it can seem an extremely complicated process and when you don’t understand it, it is! I have seen countless newbies lured in by the instant traffic and shiny $$$ signs. In their excitement, and without proper understanding, they either don’t get the steps correct or they miss them altogether!

I knew this kid who…

was desperate for leads and didn’t want to spend money to learn. C’mon, that’s a waste of your ad budget right? :) Anyway, he set up his Google account and started driving traffic to his high converting web page; only it didn’t convert very well…

…in fact, it didnt convert at all! The idiot had messed up the tracking code and while he sent a hoard of visitors to his site, over $1000 worth of visitors to be exact, all they got to see was a 404 error!

What A Dumbass, and yes, it was me 😉

Do NOT make the same silly mistakes.

PPC is without a doubt the best and fastest way to traffic and sales. That’s all business is, finding people and making sales, agree?

But you MUST know what you are doing or you will die fast.

And since social bookmarking tools allow people to see each OTHER’S bookmarks and search them, this brings ‘social proof’ to your corner.

Google strives to create a “safe and positive user experience” when people visit their main site or any related site (i.e. a page you link to by using their search engine). They will evaluate both your ads and your landing page (or website) regularly to ensure you remain compliant.

When someone visits your site it must be clear what product or service you are providing. It must be easy to navigate and feature original and relevant content. The keywords that you use in your Google AdWords campaign must also be related to your ad copy and to the material on your website. Congruency from start to finish is key.

WordPress Plugin that ENGAGES visitors to spend more time?

one of the features i’m really proud of in the YaghiLabs IBA  is a Continued Help community forum where students get to interact with our staff and one another, asking any questions that come to mind and get answers.

Well, one of our students submitted this great question i wanted to share with you…

Last night it struck me how much I clicked on the “related” links to the right of the posts on your (jimyaghi.com) site.

Do you have any recommendations for anybody trying to do the same thing on their web site? Is that something custom you guys wrote up, or are you using a content management system (like Joomla or WordPress) to accomplish this?

I as a reader stay engaged in your site longer than I normally would simply because another related article is right there for me to click on without going back to Google to continue my search.

Just a note to other IBA students. I have a bachelor’s in computer science, so accomplishing something technical like this is relatively easy for me to do myself. If you feel your blood pressure going up at the thought of web site design, please see modules 4-10 and 4-11. Module 5 has some good stuff about this too.

Never sacrifice focus on your business getting hung up on relatively mundane tasks. :-) Even I have hired PLENTY of technical work done because my time was better spent doing other things. My 1.5 cents. :-)

Well, like i said it’s a good question and i’m proud of Drew for picking up on the navigation we added to the right of our website.

It actually involves a great deal of custom programming that took me months to implement alongside a number of other features.

You might feel the temptation to go find a plugin to offer related posts to your readers on your blog and think this is THE SECRET.

And if i were some self-appointed Gooroo, i’d probably package up all that custom programming into a paid plugin and try to sell it to you for $197 as the ONLY thing you’ll need to start seeing insane traffic at your website.

I might even turn it into a monthly membership so i can keep sucking up all your hard-earned money for a few more months until you discover the truth…

that the plugin has NOTHING to do with why you want to keep browsing our website.

But i’m not that kind of guy.

I’ll tell you the embarrassing truth, with all its ugly warts…

For less than $20, the IBA will save you 30,000$ in custom programming fees and 6 months of my time i wasted to discover that the world’s most PERFECT interaction plugins don’t do a damn thing.

See, around April of 2010, i decided that i knew the secret to creating a KILLER website.

Being the badass programmer I am, i estimated it would take me 3 weeks to build a number of awesome features into my WordPress website that will increase visibility, interaction, and virality…

So I began by designing the website’s look in photoshop after studying a number of the web’s most trafficked websites…

Then began to write all the complicated code to make it real.

The particular Related Posts plugin i built was all custom.

It used a number of Artificial Intelligence techniques to offer highly related posts to readers of the website.

It used a very complicated database query that took months to debug and optimise.

I spent another month making the sidebar widget move with the scrolling of the page, because there was this “deep psychology” that if people finished reading at any stage, they should have an option of what to do next.

All in all, this entire exercise ended up taking SIX MONTHS to complete. Had I hired a programmer instead, it might have cost $30,000 in coding fees.

But it was PERFECT and it used a number of complicated algorithms which i developed after reading several scientific journal publications on finding related posts quickly.

Then launch day came…

No content had been developed.

No income had come in.

Nothing was for sale.

And when it was all said and done, and real live visitors hit the website, the query became so taxing on my server that i had to upgrade to a bigger one.

Wasted more time doing the migration.

Spent a few weeks trying to optimise the database query further.

Even crashed the server several times.

And any time a visitor arrived on the website, it would take a full 40 seconds to load the next page.

Useless!

What use was all my interactivity features and research and custom programming if the site crawled?

I had to kill the feature.

In fact, one by one, all the custom plugins i developed were killed off.

Some had bugs.

Some had no practical application.

Some were just unpopular waste of time features.

In the end, all the remained was the overall look…

…and the content.

Drew did make a correct observation though…

The jimyaghi.com website DOES get you engaged and keep you browsing for more articles.

But the related posts have VERY little to do with it.

The content is everything.

Because think about it…

if the article you first read sucks and holds no value for you, then you’re unlikely to click another article, regardless of how related it is.

The lesson?

Don’t get caught up in the technology. It will waste your time and money for little reward.

Focus on the PEOPLE who arrive on your website.

Give them engaging useful content, and some BASIC navigation.

They will keep browsing not because of the technology…but because of the inherent value in your content.

Because it is enlightening.

Because it is entertaining.

Because it is relevant.

There’s an actual method to the madness…which is what makes our website so much more engaging than any other website in the market.

Does it really live up to its title? Is there really a way to get Google Ads for free?

 

Let’s take a quick look…

Arbitrage is a common marketing practice where you  can take advantage of a price difference between two or more services.

“Get Google Ads For Free” teaches this concept:

Sell ad space on your PPC landing page – and make back any money spent on Google’s paid advertising.

Another way, is to use a combination of SEO with PPC to “discount” your cost. But it’s not really free, is it?

 

Some affiliate marketers promote products without actually trying or even investigating the product for themselves.

This product gained controversy because a couple of guru’s promoted it to their email subscribers.

Why’d it get taken down?

A couple of days later, the same gurus who promoted it apologised and retracted their recommendation.

Ouch!

Retracting a bad recommendation may have been fine Damage Control…but the damage was already done.

Did the product not do what it promised?

In short, yes.

The principle sounds correct in theory, but getting Google Ads Free, is a dangerously misleading sales pitch.

First, you still have to pay for the ads. So they’re NEVER free.

It’s just like any online business – there are costs and there is revenue. If you can recover your cost, you effectively get your advertising “free”. But isn’t that what being in business is all about?

The struggle still exists.

Also…

Many savvy marketers disagree with placing ANYTHING on a landing page besides the primary offer. After all, any distractions you give your customer that send them AWAY from your site will certainly lower your conversion rate – and cost!

A landing page must provide the user with the information they are looking for and direct them to more useful information. It’s sole purpose is to sell your product.

3rd Party Advertisements open the opportunity for visitors to bounce from your site before buying or even seeing what it is you have to offer.

Many people lost money following the advice and discovered the method was a far stretch from “Free”.

A small group of Clickbank affiliates claim to be making more money now, on the other hand. They’re earning both from Adsense as well as their product sales.

Article Marketing for the sole purpose of promoting a product page or gaining rankings in search engines is a delicate process.  Forget everything you thought you knew about article marketing and if your new to the idea then great…you might still have a chance.

Start Content Marketing the Right Way

What you are about to learn is by far a very profitable way to promote your business through the INTERNET.  A plan of action is your ultimate tool and a time frame of 3 to 6 months to start seeing lasting results.

You will waste your time if you’re not fully committed to the process or at least hire someone who is.

Part One: What  you Write makes a difference

Develop a series of topic specific content directly related to the product or service you wish to promote.  Target that content to the customer.  Content written with the user in mind seldom goes unnoticed.  That is  true for how the search engine index pages.

With Millions of pages on-line the major search engines have more then enough data to know when someone is trying to scam the system or promote quality information.

Part Two: Where are your Customers

Part Three: Expectations

That is why part two works very well, because people tend to do more business with local retailers or services.

Part Four: Rankings and Promoting

All this content and no where to put it?  Traditionally people who wanted to promote their site with article marketing were encouraged to do submit their content to Article Directories.  Those are places where thousands of articles are hosted.  Many of these article directories are built for one reason “AD Farming”.  The business of placeing ads on sites based on your content in hopes to being in Ad revenue, and for a while that strategy worked well for the site owners.  Until a group or people confronted the big search engines about playing favorites.

There are places on-line where you can submit your content and not worry about building someone else an income off of ad revenue (you may have heard of the Panda Update).  You want secure, privet, ad free directories.

Tip:

You can build your own privet network for article marketing and make it search engine friendly which builds links to your site.  Really Simple Syndication, or RSS, with some creativity isn’t a bad thing.  As far as duplication goes, forget about it, it won’t harm you unless the content is harmful in the first place.   It’s that simple.

That is only a tiny portion of how you can promote your content which in turn promotes the main site in which you want to rank.

Part Five: Summary

Have an original spot for your high-quality content-rich article.  You can select 2 to 3 key-phrases that you don’t care to rank for but are related to your ranking domain or page and develop the content around those terms.  Point One link back to the main content, this is the validation point for the robots.

Pull out the dictionary and get creative with your writing.  If your selling “Fire Breathing Earthworms from Africa” some key phrases to create promotional content might be “Easy Pets for Kids”, “Cool House Pet”, and “Awesome Anniversary Gift”. Those key-phrases would host content with all kinds of benefits relating to owning an awesome pet like the Fire Breathing Earthworm. With a link pointing back to your main site, and inter links pointing to the other articles you write about it.

Article Marketing isn’t about ranking articles, its about having quality content point to a quality sales page or domain.  The same reason you would want to point to a quality page on your site as well.  Your customer knows when they find junk so don’t let them.

Becoming a google affiliate is really easy and is a great way to earn some money for what you are probably gonna be doing on the web anyway. When sub-contracting your work you will get a greater return on your investment if you are very clear with what you realistically expect the contractor to achieve. Briefing the contractor incorrectly in the beginning will lead to incorrect work at the end.

Which Came First The Contractor or Wrong Expectations

At the breakfast table this morning I started wondering about the people who post Jobs to hire contractors. The other day I started looking at a few popular outsourcing websites where you can bid on jobs, particularly jobs in the online marketing niche.

What stood out the most and  got me shaking my head is the blown out expectations and lack of detail in the job description. Have you heard the saying, “If you can dream it we can do it”? The part that is missing from there is “if your Pockets are DEEP enough”.

SEO Job Examples That Stood Out

Currently we are having one of our website on number 2 position on Google, we want my website to be number 1 for a certain keyword. Please, only apply if you have relative experience.We want to achieve number 1 position asap.Only serious bidders can apply!

Estimated Payment 150 bucks.

They want their website to move to first position for a keyword and their budget is 150 dollars.  That budget might cover the research, evaluation, and written plan of action. The execution could cost a lot more.

If I were to take on the Job I would have to pick apart their site, the content, and there current plan. Review their market research or even conduct a fresh report.

Find out how valuable that first position really is then dissect their competition to see what the fastest route would be for Search Engine Rankings. Of course  I would purpose a Pay Per Click campaign because that would be the fast way to get ranked number one in Goolge.

The expectations are set  high and what this attracts are people who will feed them Lies just to get the bare minimum and move on to the next victim.

How I View Job Contracts at First Glance

When I look for contracts to bid on I am looking at the expectations of the Employer and if my skills match what they want. I ask the following questions.

What is the final outcome of the contract?

What is the time frame for achieving this outcome?

What is their budget? Is the budget realistic for the work they want to get accomplished?

Do they have any understanding of what is involved in completing the project at hand or will I have to train them and explain the operation?

Are they setting them self up to be taken advantage of?

Does their plan reflect market reaction, response or proactive movement?

My Thoughts About This

What is the site, why would anyone with a higher quality site want to link to the Employers site for FREE?  What is the reciprocating value?  Why did the Employer put 20 dollars as the starting budget?  Who put the idea in their head that someone can check ALL site backlinks on Alexa?  What date are you talking about expanding?

My Reply

1.  Time scale is in hours and the time frame would be between 0-17520 hours, two year. Now that isn’t how many hours working on the project but simply a good TWO years to complete. From the way the Employer wants this done in the job description.

Why Two Years? Research, Rapport, Pitch, Negotiation, Link, Report.

2. Fixed price 20 thousand dollars. Someone would be going on a lot of dates with some webmasters to get these links.

3.  I have never built a genuine High PR5 Backlink, I prefer mine to be sober at the time of construction. Are you asking  have I ever developed a site that hosts content worthy enough that some webmaster who has a site with PR5 would link too?

4. When a later date is arranged I would still say the same amount and then some, lets talk Money not time. In this game Cash is king, unless you have lots and lots of time and a huge army of crazy internet marketers who work night and day for nothing to get your site ranked.

Summary

Very high expectations with an unclear understanding of a process works can lead to disappointment, resent, hate, anger, and theft.

When you  put out a contract or want some work done please learn at least some of the lingo and jargon of the industry. Research what it is that you really want, the time you want it done in and how much you have to spend to get the job done right.

Avoid getting ripped off by getting the facts and taking the necessary time to develop the details. Talk to someone in the industry you are seeking to get work done from.

What Is A Landing Or Capture Page?

“Landing Page” and “Capture Page” are common terms used among internet marketers. In this article we discuss the distinct differences between the two while respectfully paying homage to the late Apple CEO, Steve Jobs.

This week the world mourns the death of 56-year-old Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, who died on October 5, 2011 after 7 years of battling pancreatic cancer.

Days after his untimely death, internet users continue to post comments and well-deserved respects paid to Steve and the legacy he has left behind.

Steven Paul Jobs made tremendous advancements in technology and vision during his time spent with companies like Apple, LucasFilm, Pixar, and The Walt Disney Company.  Steve profoundly shaped the face of modern technology, revolutionized 6 different industries and set a high-level standard for business leaders around the world.

When we take a look at Steve Jobs’ accomplishments and innovations it is easy to see that what he DID created a legacy to be respectfully remembered for years to come.

Below we look to Steve Jobs’ example to help us define and dissect the purpose of 2 common elements of internet business building – Landing Pages and Capture Pages.

 

Is There A Difference?

The terms “Landing Page” and “Capture Page” are used almost interchangeably anymore.  While there are numerous similarities and a capture page could technically be considered a landing page it is important to understand the distinction between the two.

 

What Is A Landing Page?

A Landing page is pretty simple to understand.  It is exactly what it sounds like it would be – it is the page at which your visitors arrive or ‘land’ after being navigated to your site.  It could be your home page, blog, or any other page on your site.

In fact, it is very common for websites to incorporate multiple landing pages all serving different purposes.  Your landing page should also be designed to accomplish a single focused objective.

Like Steve Jobs’ influence and legacy, the real benefit of landing pages comes from what they DO or ACCOMPLISH and not necessarily from their existence alone.

Landing pages should provide a very customized and personal experience for your visitor.  When designing your landing page, consider where the visitor has just come from.  Did they click through a link from a Facebook post or was it a targeted ad on Google?

Keeping in mind where your visitors are arriving from will give you invaluable insight into who they are and how you can provide them with what they are looking for.  Allow your landing page to be a logical extension of the advertisement or link that your visitor was originally interested in.

By matching who your visitor is with what they are looking for your chances of engaging the visitor automatically go up.  This is the basic concept of conversions and conversion rates.  The goal is to convert someone who stumbled onto your site from being a random stranger and turn them into an interested viewer which will then lead to them becoming a willing buyer.

Steve Jobs and Apple products are extremely well known for their ability to provide their customers with a high-level of attention to aesthetics and visual appeal in their products.

Likewise, well designed landing pages support higher conversion rates than simply directing visitors to the home page of your website.

Don’t force your visitors to fend for themselves amidst countless links, images, and any number of other distractions.  Create a captive audience by providing your visitors with EXACTLY what they are looking for.

 

When to Use Landing Pages

Targeted landing pages should be utilized anytime you can control or have specific knowledge of where your visitors will be coming from and you have a specific outcome or goal you are hoping to accomplish.

Simple sales, opt-ins, or even engaging a visitor into reading a specific article are examples goals or outcomes you could be directing your visitors toward.

Landing pages are especially critical when implementing paid traffic techniques. Banner ads, sponsor links, or Pay-per-click advertising can be very expensive.  It is important to make the most of every single visitor by employing well crafted landing pages.

 

Well Then… What Is A Capture Page?

A capture page is a type of landing page created with only one specific purpose – to get a visitor to enter their information into a form and subscribe to your list or feed.

The most common way to do this online is to offer some type of bribe, something free and enticing, in exchange for your visitor’s name, email address, and occasionally phone number.  In the internet marketing world written reports, blueprints, audio recordings, and training courses are commonly used to bribe visitors into exchanging their personal information for the promised content.

Have you ever noticed how Apple seems to have this MASSIVE cult-like following of loyal fanboys and customers?  It is because of the incredible amount of value they provide.  Thanks to Steve Jobs and other visionaries… Apple has provided some excellent technological solutions and completely over-delivered on ALL of their promises.

Arguably… headlines, graphics, and limited navigation will play a role in the rate of conversion a capture page generates.  The most important thing to consider though is that your bribe must ABSOLUTELY be something of real value that the visitor will find useful and informative.  That is the ONLY way that ANY visitor will be willing to give you their information and remain on your list.

For the sake of longevity and the ability to continue to market services and products to this list, the information or bribe you provide must over-deliver and be extremely valuable to your customer visitors.

 

The most successful captures all follow this exact same formula…

  1. Describe a problem your visitor is experiencing
  2. Offer a solution in exchange for the visitor’s information
  3. Deliver the solution

A 4th step would then be to continue to provide value and usefulness to this list and then repeating the process.

Using Steve Jobs and Apple as an example…  Apple provides their customers with more usefulness and value by offering additional related products.  There are many exclusive software programs, accessories, as well as other devices that already customers are most likely interested in.

By staying in contact and developing a relationship with the people who chose to opt-in to your email list you can create a very valuable asset to earn from over and over again.  Capture pages are frequently implemented in this manner as effective components in marketing systems that benefit from a lead ‘captured’ once and then leveraged to profit from for weeks and months down the road.

 

Is It An iPod, iPad, iTouch, Or iPhone?

While providing the world with innumerable amounts of information… the internet has also proved quite effective in providing WAY too many terms that are eventually get used incorrectly and, even more confusing, interchangeably.

This situation is no different.

A Capture Page is technically a form of Landing Page BUT a Landing Page does not necessarily need to be a Capture Page or contain an opt-in form.

  • A Landing Page provides valuable content and information relevant to the visitor’s interest by directly relating to what the visitor was originally searching for.
  • A Capture Page provides valuable content in exchange for the visitor’s email address or other contact information.

 

Steve Jobs’ ingenuity and legend have provided the world with technological advances and greater understanding of what’s possible.

Take a lesson from Steve’s example and begin using Landing Pages and Capture Pages in the most efficient way to supplement the rest of your business building efforts.

Ever wonder how people really make 5- and 6- figure revenue from placing Google’s Adsense ads on their website?

This is by no means a comprehensive guide, but it will get you started with 4 ways to make Adsense pay you money. To really turn your website into a cash-cow, check out the references included below.

 

1. Manipulate Eye Movement

There is a science to controlling the eye-movements of your web-users.

Colour, size, position, and “surroundings” affect this.

You should not try to draw attention to ads by making them “shout” with big red borders and arrows pointing into the text.

Being subtle is key.

For example, if all your site’s text is coloured black, then try to colour the ad-text grey. This sneakily draws the eye. The idea is to make the visitor think you don’t want them to pay attention – while at the same time forcing them to look.

Experienced web users have developed banner blindness – Anything that is too flashy and shiny, they automatically categorise in their head as “banner” and ignore it.

The website owner uses little piggy images placed above the ad block. Doesn’t it seem like pigs are part of the page footer? The truth is, the website owner intentionally aligned each pig with one ad position so as to focus the eye there.

We use eye-focus tricks on YOU.

At this website, we use many eye-focus tricks on non-ad blocks. If you find your eyes focusing on an area of the screen that doesn’t shout, there’s a good chance we designed it this way to get your attention. 😉

2. Make Adsense Blend In

When you read an article in a magazine – there are “sidebars” with extra background information.

Do you interrupt your reading to look at the sidebar, or do you come back later?

When the background of text ads is different from the page, the ad block sticks out.

Through the corner of their eye, while engaged in your content, visitors will perceive the ad blocks as unrelated to their reading. So they ignore them.

Give your Adsense blocks the same background colour as your document. This way they become part of the visitor’s reading.

3. Kill Your Auto-Blog

Don’t buy or use “adsense blogs” and templates. They are quite stupid.

Automatically generated content theoretically games Google – to send visitors and place “relevant ads” on your site. But you need REAL people to click the ads on your web-property if you hope to make money from it.

When you use crawler type content, unfiltered RSS feed collections, and other garbage, it’s like being in a nasty neighbourhood asking passers-by if they’d like to buy a Rolex. Nobody trusts that.

Worse, if someone clicks an ad, you send them away from your website. Do you think anyone be will returning to an autoblog?

No. Never!

A good blog has returning visitors because it has useful, entertaining, and fresh content. Even if your visitors click an adsense ad that takes them off your website, they will return. You don’t lose them. Which means you’ll work less to keep your site quite busy.

Maintaining an Alexa Traffic Spike – Part 2

The screenshot above shows the Alexa graph from today for jimyaghi.com. That’s a little over TWO WEEKS after i shared the post: how to maintain an Alexa traffic spike.

Which means we jumped 36,930 positions worldwide in one fortnight.

While i am incredibly proud, this isn’t something i share with you JUST to brag. It proves the point that if you focus on engagement, traffic will follow.

This website has, for years, been sitting around as a relatively neglected piece of online real-estate. Once in a while, when i got some time, i would spend some money in paid ads.

But what I regret most is not having built a relationship with the audience of this website years ago.

Because each time a traffic campaign ended, the website slipped back to oblivion and no more visitors arrived on their own without an email asking them to visit.

 

Busy fighting to win traffic for clients –

I’m pleased that i helped my clients grow to 7 and 8 figure revenue businesses. But still, it’s shameful to be one of the top traffic consultants in the Online Business industry while having such a poor example at my own website.

For this reason, Alexa became a major point of focus for measuring our goals here.

Rather than set goals like most do: spend $250 in paid ads/month, get 30 leads per day, get leads at $0.30 each….we realised those were not goals that matter. Traffic costs what it costs and there’s little that can be done to change the cost.

Only revenue and customer loyalty are within our direct control.

Our goals are tied to Alexa’s competitive measure of all the websites of the world. We focused on the following metrics:

  • Number of pages viewed per visitor
  • Average time spent at website
  • Percent of Returning Visitors
  • and Bounce rate

These metrics indicate how engaging a website is, which directly correlates to money.

Getting hits to the website is the easy part – we could get a spike in reach on Alexa overnight – but the challenge is in making people want to return and spend time at the website exploring it. Engaged visitors are gathering information to make informed buying decisions.

 

How Do We Compare Against the Big Players?

In Alexa, it’s possible to compare your website to any other site you want.

We plugged in the websites of some of our main market competitors who get a LOT of hits to their websites – and found that while they beat us on overall site visits,  we beat them on every other measure of engagement.

Most websites are props. Websites that builds a proper relationship with their audience make sales automatically…

Maintaining an Alexa Traffic Spike

Alexa ranks all the websites of the world in order of most popular to least popular. Getting a spike on Alexa is easy to do with traffic, but maintaining it is a matter of engaging the visitors to keep them coming back for more.

As far as Search Engines Optimisation goes, I’m NO expert by any means. Can’t stand the hacking involved.

With that said, this chart shows how Jimyaghi.com (current PR-3) ranks against the websites of the world. What’s interesting about it, isn’t so much the rank itself. But the graph.

It shows the speed with which we climb up (and down) the ranks.

 

What does a spike on the Alexa graph mean?

  1. TRAFFIC: there was an extra burst of visitors arriving at the website
  2. ENGAGEMENT: people started spending more time browsing the website

Spikes are easy enough for you to replicate on your site–we’ve obviously done it a bunch of times–but to keep it stable? that’s another story.

 

Wrong Ways to Spike

Not With Free Traffic…

Common folk of the internet focus on (1)…the TRAFFIC. But they do it stupidly for free using SEO. And please god forgive me for saying this, but most SEOists are dicks.

To get free traffic quickly, they have to spam and hack. But once people arrive at their site, there is no reward waiting for them. (2) ENGAGEMENT is nearly non-existent.

Alexa score won’t spike this way, unless there’s a GIANT surge of traffic (unlikely).

Not with Paid Traffic…

Paid traffic and PPC is pretty much the same story minus the trail of trash.

When you pay for traffic you want ROI quickly so that’s your focus, rather than developing an engaging site. When your money runs out and the Alexa spike dips.

 

So How Do We Maintain an Alexa Spike?

Design your site around engagement, not traffic.

Even if you only get 5 visitors a day to begin with, work on keeping them.

Give them ways to navigate and explore more of your pages. Offer them alternative actions to take. Share something worth them coming back for.

How? There’s a lot of ways (see the IBA for more info), but here’s the easiest “SEO” tip I know:

 

Keep your site fresh with new content daily.

Do that, the traffic will follow and stay.

Hollywood Blogger Party

Two weeks ago I got to see for myself just how amazing social media can be if you do it right.

I was invited to a party that a new friend of mine had at her apartment which is spitting distance to Hollywood. I first learned about this girl when I listened to a podcast series she did with comedian Jordan Rubin. Immediately I added her on twitter and then followed her blog on tumblr.

Her name is Molly McAleer but she is better known as Molls of Mollsshewrote.com.

Molls is a phenomenal blogger. She started off work with a site called Gawker.com which allowed her to grow her online presence by posting videos on various activities to do in Los Angeles and the Hollywood area.

She’s a genius at leveraging social media. What I’ve noticed about all that she’s put online is that there’s honestly nothing super fancy to it. She’s not using cute graphics and epic soundtracks. She makes her videos using her laptop’s built-in camera and she doesn’t read from any scripts.

After drinking two cups of wine at her party, I looked around and realized that I recognized several of her guests. Some of them I added on twitter and the others I recognized from their tumblr blogs. What really surprised me was that some of the girls knew me by my twitter name and just that detail alone made me feel like a part of the whole thing. I loved not feeling like an outsider even though I showed up on my own and was meeting many people for the first time.

I once heard a friend make the snarky remark, “People still use Twitter?” I was instantly annoyed at hearing this because he had no idea how many new friends I was making just by connecting with them on twitter, exchanging a few jokes and @replies, and finally connecting with them at events in Los Angeles. Isn’t that what marketers were trying to do in the first place with social media?  The bloggers are seeing great success with this, so why aren’t they?

A lot can be learned from Molls’ style in terms of how to put together a video and a personal blog. I think that when we get so caught up in business, we forget to be ourselves and that holds us back from creating a genuine connection with the audience. And keep in mind that your audience sometimes consists of existing clients as well as potential new clients.

Molls has over 8,000 followers on Twitter and just as many on her personal blog, if not more. Her Vyou.com page lists 452 followers and that will continue to grow considering how new the site still is. She has teamed up with supersweettees.com where they currently sell shirts with some well-known phrases that have been inspired by her blogs and videos, and I am currently the owner of the famous “Hey/Girl” v-neck shirt. Orders are still coming in for that one and the company can hardly keep up with production.

The charm and allure of her writing has a lot to do with the honesty that she puts into all of it. People who get upset at what she says are quickly outnumbered by her supporters. And as you’ve probably learned in business, that’s one way to weed out the folks with whom you’d least like to work. If they don’t like what you have to say, they can find someone else, right?

Molls’ will continue to grow as a social media queen and we will be able to track her success as she continues to take over as a successful writer.

When I think back to the people who were at the party, I realize that I walked away with the honor and privilege of meeting some really amazing people, including a book author whom I really admire and whose books I recently read. I see that for those of us who are struggling to be a little better known in business, sometimes all it takes is shooting a few videos and writing a few blogs so that we can start sending out the message on who we are and what we can offer to others. If we can be as gutsy as Molls, we might even get a feel for how powerful it is to connect with our audience on a genuine and consistent level.

Website Update

Pretty pleased with the new look of the website, right?

I was sick and tired of how messy and unfunctional the old theme was. So being the nerd I am, I drew this up completely in Photoshop.

As you can see, i stuck with a lot of the old elements. That’s because certain things on the site WORK and i didn’t want to lose those. Also, I wanted to retain a core consistency and recognizability.

Photoshop has a great slicing feature. I used that and then loaded the Photoshop file in Adobe Image Ready which produced all the funky HTML codes for me. All that was left then was to translate it into a blog theme.

I’ve messed around with WordPress themes before. You know, hacked them up to do certain things I wanted. But this is the first time i built an entire theme from scratch. It took about 3 weeks between drawing, cutting, and programming it.

I also created several new widgets (for the first time):

1. The “Spotlight” (pretty cool how it scrolls, right? i did that! me!)
2. The most popular, most recent, and “relevant posts” widgets with the cool thumbnail icons.

The theme also has i dunno about 8 different sidebars. Yeah, this thing was intense.

Hope you enjoy the site and find things more easily than before. Forgive any bugs and holes meanwhile until I’ve ironed them all out!

How To Get Amazing Conversions From Name Squeeze Boxes

Right so Raymond sends out an email and i’m not the type to quote from email threads, but this is educational. Raymond’s email has a SINGLE link. nothing else. Wow. Rude, right?

I clicked the link and was taken to this site where a guy does a study to test the two versions of the form to my left. You’ll notice the form with fill-in-the-blank exercise  actually significantly outpulls the traditional one.

Ferny emails back to tell us how excited he is about the concept.

Meanwhile, I came up with this example i might use on my “bugger off” optin box :

Hi,

My name is _________. Pleased to meet you Mr. Jim Yaghi. I’d love for you to email me some of your insights to marketing and your ebook on having a great time while keepin it real with the lord. You may email me at _________________.

Look at that, I even got them to tell me their name twice. Booyahh!

Does Google Hate Affiliate Advertisers?

Yesterday I was forwarded a message from a distressed fellow reader who discovered all his campaigns were disapproved for violating Google’s terms of service.

Here is his story (as posted in comments):

As a result, they have disallowed all ads forwarding to affiliate links/sites, bridge pages that then forward to an affiliate site, and any site that contains or mirrors all or portions of a parent company site. Even my ads for my own personal site landing page and home business web sites went down. They did not disapprove them, but they lowered my Quality Score so low that the ads never display. So be prepared, you may not see this happen until you edit or create a new ad, then Goggle will review all your campaigns, that’s when all your MLM, home business and affiliate ads will drop. I moved all mine to Yahoo last night until we all can come up with a solution to this.

This is going to shut down every ad anyone has running on Google as an affiliate for the Magnetic Sponsoring products. See http://www.perrymarshall.com for his video on Google Tightening the Screws Again, he is having a live call on Monday at noon CST concerning this, don’t know if he will have a soluton or not.

I went to investigate immediately…could it be true? Is Google shutting down affiliate advertisers for good?

Should we panic?

It’s unlikely.

Two years in the online advertising game, the rules have changed many times for me before too. People predicted doom…businesses shut down because they couldn’t generate traffic any more, people were angry, fingers got pointed…

And yet, online marketing lived on. Fortunes were made by others.

In fact, I was only a small-fry for many of those changes. Yet, here I am today: Still generating tons of Google Adwords traffic, still making sales, and still in Google’s good books. So far anyway 😉

I gotta admit, though, Scott’s message sure made me nervous.

First thing I did, was to get in touch with Adwords support. I asked for the latest policy on affiliate advertising.

Let me save you the distraction of clicking through to the policy page. This is the first line you’re going to read:

We do not allow data entry affiliates to use AdWords advertising, but all other affiliates may participate in the AdWords programme.

And don’t beat yourself up about not knowing what a “data entry affiliate” program is. Although Google’s help links the text to a dead page, I saw this very rule back in April of 2008. So nothing has changed there. NOTHING at all.

Data entry affiliate programs are dodgey. You guys are a good bunch and I don’t recommend you get involved in such things. (If you’re involved in dodgey stuff, you’re disowned ;))

Most of you here have your own legitimate business (info marketing business, small business, network marketing, mlm, direct sales). The-other-most-of-you promote affiliate products from sites like Clickbank, Commission Junction, and maybe Hydra and NeverBlue. You guys are all safe.

The sentence i ripped out of the adwords policy basically translates to:

“You Are Allowed To Use Google Adwords To Advertise Your Business”

Next, on the above policies page, Google says that they “monitor” and “don’t allow” the following:

 

  • Redirect URLs
  • Bridge Pages
  • Framing

 

I don’t remember the last two items on the list because it’s been some time since I’ve revised this page. But if you’re a PPC Domination customer or you’ve been doing Adwords for any length of time you know by now that redirected URLS (also known as URL forwarding) are not allowed.

This means, you can’t register a godaddy domain and use its URL-Forwarding option to redirect its visitors to your affiliate URL. Adwords imposes this rule by insisting that you use the same top-level domain on both your display and target URLs. That’s nothing new, that’s why I told you guys to use the masking option too (we’ll get to that in a second).

Until yesterday, I’d never heard of a “Bridge Page“.

A quick definition search on Google uncovered these definitions in context for a “Bridge Page”:

 

  • is similar to a “Doorway Page”, because it is an entry page into a website designed to target keywords that are usually absent from the …

  • Another term for a doorway page.

A quick skim of the above reveals that a bridge page is a piece of internet spam. It’s a page whose purpose is JUST to bullshit Google and other searches into believing that relevant content exists on this site. Does that sound like a nice thing to do?

No. We’re marketers here, guys. We don’t want to trick anyone to click our ad. It costs us money for untargeted traffic. So I hope you’re not using nor were you contemplating using a bridge page.

And finally, framing.

Here is where we run into trouble. Because I’ve advised many beginners to use URL masking/cloaking to avoid creating landing pages for adwords. This had, for some time, been a valid alternative to using domain forwarding on the merchant’s page.

Masking or cloaking works by using an HTML element called a “frame”. It’s a way you can embed one webpage inside another. Usually, you take the affiliate page from the merchant and embed it in a single page on your own domain so it appears like the affiliate page actually came from your domain.

Let’s be straight up here…URL masking is a deceptive practice.

I only suggested it as a temporary solution for people who wanted to start advertising in adwords. Unfortunately, the recent banning of “framed” landing pages makes your life a little harder–Particularly if learning to make landing pages was something you planned to put off till later.

On the upside, you were going to have to create your own landing pages eventually.

Effective and profitable Pay Per Click advertising really requires that you have several different landing pages to better match each keyword you bid on.

I know that not everyone’s tech savvy–but it’s easy enough that anyone can learn it. Yes, even you grandma–I mean, hey, we’re internet marketers! Roll up your sleeves and learn it. Or if you got the money to hire someone to do it for you, go for it.

If you guys ask for it, I might have to release a simple guide for technically challenged people to create their own landing pages.

Anyway, the Adwords Affiliate policy page continues with suggestions of what Google would like to see on advertisers’ landing pages. Consider these, not just as suggestions, but as an exact formula for getting dirt cheap advertising on Adwords. Following this advice will qualify you for Google rewards of cheaper click costs, more exposure, and higher profit.

Consider these guidelines as the rule book for staying in Google’s good books, even if the policies change.

And by the way, in case you were wondering, I’ve checked on my affiliate campaigns–and they’re all running. I’m getting cheaper clicks, more leads, for less bucks. Do you know why?

Because Google’s policy change has thinned the herd–again.

SEO Networker’s Intrusive Case Study Videos

I just finished watching Fernando and Raymond’s new video case study for SEO Networker.

Inside, I saw how these two rocket-scientists turned Network Marketers were able to dominate the Google organic search results for common searches that business opportunity seekers are looking for. Keywords like, “attraction marketing”, “network marketing training”, “mlm leads”, and “mlm system”.

Basically, that means they can get perfect prospects for their MLM business from Google for FREE.

They’re good friends of mine, but I’m sure as hell not about to tell them that their content gave away the kitchen sink. I want it to stay up there at least till I finish implementing some of that stuff!

Maybe they don’t realise how dangerous it is to be sharing insider material about their business with someone like me…because, um…I’m gonna implement it, master it, and then I’m gonna be their competition.

Like for example, here’s some of the cool stuff I’m sooooo gonna nick:
(btw, for my American readers who may not know this, nick=take/steal) 

  • They gave away some of the exact keywords that they’ve been targetting with their main website
    (Attraction Marketing Formula.)        

    That website of theirs shows up on the left side of the google search for many of the key terms I target with sponsored ads on the right. 

    Using Fernando and Raymond’s Search Engine Optimisation techniques alongside my Paid search efforts, I’ll get the benefit of being on BOTH sides of search results. In effect, maximizing my search presence: I get immediate results with PPC and then long-term passive results with all the content I create over time with SEO!

  • Fernando showed the titles and exact addresses to the content that got them on Google’s front page. So in theory, one could go to those articles, do some “research”, and then write similar articles on one’s own website.
     
  • They showed the actual categories and themes that they divided their content into. This is an integral part of doing Search Engine Optimisation. One could, copy those themes or categories (though we shouldn’t)…and then you’d be able to dominate the same keywords in Google’s organic results too.
     
  • They revealed their linking strategy. Which sites they’re using to connect INTO their site and how they’re linking the pages within their site in that perfect way that Google wants to just keep sending them visitors.
     
  • Fernando gave me an idea how to modify my wordpress blog theme so that it monetise the traffic that comes to it from free search engine traffic.
     
  • They told about how installing a wordpress blog on your site is almost a passive way to get search engine rankings because of RSS. Now that’s pretty smart, considering that with wordpress, the very same blogging engine i’m using right here, I don’t have to do ANY html coding. I can literally create my entire site, landing pages, capture pages, and sales letters all off the same wordpress platform. Holy smokes!

 

Ok so that’s pretty much a whole bunch of stuff I got out of their case study. This came (I think) as a result of a conversation I had with them a few weeks ago.

See, Fernando and Raymond are launching a coaching program to show regular network marketers how to create sites that Google loves to send traffic to. When we talked about their launch, I made a suggestion that went something like:

“Hey guys, why don’t you give away a bunch of videos with proper, simple, SEO techniques that people can go out and implement right away. And then hold a contest of some kind that makes use of the learning people get from those techniques.” 

I don’t know that i said it exactly that way, but ya know, quotes are cool in blogs. I thought I’d do one.

A few days ago they caught me by surprise when they released these case study videos for the contest. The winners get a scholarship into the coaching program. Meaning, they get in for free. Contest ends on the 22nd of January, so not a whole lot of time if you’re thinking about joining in.

As for me, I’m not eligible for the contest because i’m a JV and I get free unlimited access to the training anyway. But regardless, the information they shared in the videos is as useful to me as anyone else.
