Opinions Are Like A******s…everyone’s got one!

The point that MLM is the ONLY passive income anyone can get is stupid.

Hey big shot. 😉

Seems like yesterday’s email hit a sore button for many MLM defenders.

One funny guy said on Facebook, “I always like to give my opinion: All the alternatives for passive income you gave as examples require a large investment which few people can afford. MLM is the ONLY way to get passive income that ANYONE can afford.”

LOL

My response:

“Opinions are like assholes…everyone’s got one.”

Haha…difference is when you have traffic and a mailing list thousands will hear your opinion. His will go unheard.

So at the risk of sounding politically correct, allow me to share my view.

The point of yesterday’s email was not to rag on MLM…

Please make no mistake about it though, I THINK MLM IS NOT A BUSINESS IN THE FIRST PLACE. But hey I don’t mind getting traffic for clients who want to build a MLM. It’s their choice what to do with the traffic I send them.

But I digress…

The point that MLM is the ONLY passive income anyone can get is stupid.

Many of the examples I gave yesterday required NO sign-up fee and little investment. Whereas MLM DOES require a sign up fee.

Also, in my examples, any money you invest goes toward buying something useful that works. Whereas, the sign up fee you pay to join a MLM is just to get products that you’ll probably store in your garage or consume yourself without any business use.

Unless you join an ONLINE mlm, in which case you buy the right to market someone else’s system. Still, you don’t buy a passive income.

Furthermore, the point I made yesterday was that there are other passive income alternatives that have a HIGHER SUCCESS rate than MLM. Just because it’s something “anyone can afford”, doesn’t mean it’s a winning investment.

I’d BORROW the money to invest in a business I had a good chance of succeeding with ANY DAY over putting in $1 into something I’d most likely fail at.

But still, that’s not all I said.

I said that people who want MLM for its passive income have:

No money

No skills

And don’t want to do any work

No matter what the business model, passive income will require AT LEAST one of the above.

So even if you have no money and no skills and you believe MLM is the ONLY way to get a passive income, you better be prepared to make up for your lack of money and skills with 100 times as much work.

On the other hand, if you have a little money with no skills but you’re willing to do a little work, then you can put your money to work:

Pay for advertising (PPC)…and…outsource what you don’t have the skills to do!

Blogging When You Hate Writing

“Can’t I just buy articles?”

Hey it’s jim.

Yes, it’s a fantabulous day. Did mucho work today, and I’m feeling farkin great.

You might have noticed these posts are reaching you a little later/earlier than you were used to. Why?

Because when I used to write them first thing in the morning, I’d sit on my lazy ass and call it a day.

Not ashamed to say this, writing is therapeutic for me and I enjoy the heck out of it.

But that’s not the case for most people. Like the other day, I was giving a consultation to a guy who wanted to become a blogger.

By definition, a blogger must BLOG!

Except, this nice chap, he tried every loophole he could to get out of writing.

“Can’t I just reblog?”

 “Can’t I just summarise someone else’s content?”

“Can’t I just buy articles?”

No. No. No. Was my predictable always response.

Blogging itself isn’t hard.

How hard is talking? We all do it.

When you have an interesting topic to begin with, you can talk for hours.

Here’s the secret to being able to write regularly (and sell)…

Start an idea bank. Simple.

I keep mine on the computer…but maybe your phone is a good place to store yours or on a notepad if you’re a little old fashioned.

There’s inspiration ALL AROUND YOU, you come across it every day. But since you never take a note of your good conversation ideas, when you sit at a blank New Post on WordPress, the ideas refuse to flow. It becomes a strain to write. And it takes forever.

Not with an idea bank!…the hard work of getting blogging ideas is taken care of ahead of time.

Just like telling jokes…you’ve probably heard TONS of funny jokes which had you in tears over the course of your life. But most people, when they come to tell jokes, they can only remember one or two.

The other day I was sitting with my mother’s brother. He told me about a doctor friend of his he meets with once a month.

He said this guy keeps a notepad in his pocket…and on it he has a list of one or two trigger-words per line that remind him of good jokes he heard throughout the month.

He keeps this updated so that when he meets with his surgeon friends, for TWO HOURS STRAIGHT, the guy rattles off one joke after the other. Everyone laughs. He’s a star.

Doesn’t take much to be entertaining…just keep an idea bank.

1,800,000 impressions in 15 minutes

– BOOYAAAa!

Hey there,

It’s been rough getting back into my routine since returning from travel. Lots to catch up on, including back-logged work, a LOT of missed sleep, and being under the weather.

In any case, I wanted to share with you a little traffic insight today. This came up while reviewing a campaign for a traffic client we manage…

I think one of the biggest hold ups entrepreneurs have when starting their business is that they try to do too much preparation before getting started.

The Gooroos who are interested in selling lots of information products over-complicate things to the point there’s too much to consume all at once. And it’s a total time-suck.

Starting your traffic is simple…

You have a product to sell, you bring people to your site, then you start selling it.

So everyone gets really caught up in the details of getting it perfect…like setting up their website, then writing a landing page with killer copy, a sales letter, an email sequence, and then super-dooper targeting of keywords and a gazillion ad split-tests. TOO COMPLICATED!

Bah!!! Makes my head spin.

Pro’s don’t do it like this. Here’s what we do:

We start out by getting a bunch of keywords that our audience is searching for. Lots of them. AND I MEAN LOTS!

We write 4 ads, each with a drastically different angle on the offer. Solutions for different problems.

Then we run the campaign with minimal tinkering. We are up and running in hours.

Where we see desirable results, we expand on them.

Let me give you a quick example we worked on today…

One lady we built a campaign for as part of a DFYT consultation had nearly 100,000 keywords and 4 ads.

After 9 days, we found she was receiving 1.5 million impressions on ONE keyword.

We could have wasted our time creating landing pages for each keyword and special ads to match each. But we didn’t.

The adgroup that was producing all these impressions was providing 1,800 clicks…more than enough traffic to refine.

Best part is, the keyword that was getting all the impressions was a variation on what would have been an EXTREMELY expensive keyword. We got TONS of visits from the SAME audience for a fraction of the cost!

Next, we identified the ad pulling best, killed the other ad angles for that ONE adgroup, and wrote a fresh ad based on the winning one–with one key difference:

The headline was directly correlated with the keyword that got the result…

The rest of the adgroups we left untouched until a later date if they showed promise.

Like this, we immediately amplified where we were already getting results. We increased the effectiveness of the impressions with the better-correlating ad, and as a result we hope for many more conversions. The entire thing took 15 minutes.

On the other hand, we might have wasted DAYS writing and split-testing ads for keywords that were never going to get many impressions unless we bid several dollars a click.

no, we CAN’T be friends

You know what I’m HORRIBLE at?

Being social.

The whole “political correctness”, the fake niceties, small talk, pretending to care when you don’t, the favours, the visits. UGHhhh CRINGE. It’s all so tedious.

Finding a career online has been great.

All the advantages of “being social” without any of the things I don’t love.

My wife thinks I’m weird. Constantly tries to get me to do stuff with this or that and scratches her head at my replies. eg,:

 “But if we visit so-and-so this ‘one time’, then so-and-so will ‘owe us’ a visit. And we start a cycle that doesn’t exist, and I don’t want to exist.”

or

“I don’t like hanging with X’s husband. His conversations are tedious. I’m an intellectual, and I can’t let my mind be exposed to the ‘DUMB’ he puts out.”

or

“Look, he’s just not on my level. I’m not trying to be mean, but pretending to like him makes me physically tired and ruins my whole day.”

Anyway, although online relationships can be filtered somewhat, they are just as tedious.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind giving a discount to a buddy, buddy. But the definition stated at the link above was: “someone who has met me in person” AND “has had at least one PHONE conversation with me”.

A client-customer conversation doesn’t count as a “phone conversation”, btw. But whatever, I didn’t make a distinction one way or the other.

So then along comes numbnuts asking for the ‘buddy discount’ because we met at some event in vegas or whatever. Ermm…dude, the events I attend as a guest-speaker have over 1,000 people in attendance.

There is no way on this planet everyone I shook hands with is ‘buddy’. I’m not that popular.

Besides I like to be friends with people at the same intellectual level so there is an EQUAL exchange of ideas between us, even in idle “social time”. That’s what these emails you get from me are–“SOCIAL Intellecture” — conversations I’ve had with a ‘buddy’ before you got em.

Problem with buddy discounts isn’t the discount itself. It’s the ‘buddy’!

Apparently online, a buddy (and let’s go ahead and include some of your favorite Gooroos and their staff)…can expect to be a royal pain in the buttpipe. They assume they can request:

1. Exceptions on any conditions you have for products or services you sell

2. That you create a customised service, often asking for things not included in any of the packages you sell but also expecting EVERYTHING in ALL the packages you sell

3. Faster service than anyone else. they send an email every 15 minutes asking for an update

4. That you start the work before any payment is made, expecting free preparation, often without discussing payment until after they get the work.

5. And multiple contacts before, during, AND after the sale to answer their dipshit questions at every step where they get to challenge everything and anything you say.

And that’s just some of the annoying extra work that ‘social relations’ bring.

I stop replying to them. Don’t know if they get the hint, I fired them as friends and as clients.

Honestly, I rather PAY THEM to stop thinking of me as their buddy.

– They’re exhausting.

– Their mom is exhausting.

– Talking to them is a physical drain.

But there’s others who understand they’re not friends so they try to create a “buddy” relationship from thin air. Like I need MORE useless friends. I’d PAY TO LOSE MY CURRENT FRIENDS. If you want friends, adopt mine, I’ll pay you.

Makes me laugh.

Here’s how it works:

They send in an email inquiring as if they are a prospective customer and great fan. As soon as they get a reply, they show some serious interest in one of your products and expectantly ask to talk on Skype or phone to discuss their needs.

Here’s my advice if this ever happens to you in some distant future when you become a big-shot. :)

Between family, hobbies, and work, that’s a full day.

So let’s get real. Most of us don’t get into business to do what we have a “strong and barely controllable emotion” about (definition of passion…Yes, I looked it up.)

And even if we did, I have a hard time believing you or your fellow subscribers dreamed of being an Affiliate Marketing rep when you grew up. Not even the type who sells crap online.

More…

If we were passionate about our labours, we wouldn’t need to get paid to make it worthwhile.

Don’t worry. I’m not very different from you. I did not dream of being a Google Adwords rockstar (so cool), nor of servicing startup businesses in their traffic needs.

Yet, that’s what I do. And I do NOT love it!

It’s boring and I’d rather slit my wrists than have to get on another client call. — You know, I spend most of the call trying to convince the client why they should do what they paid me to tell them to do?!

But here’s what I AM passionate about…

Goals BEG passion…but processes rarely do.

My father used to say it to me when I tried to multi-task my homework around programming and building robots.

He also told me, that when I got married one day, I should not keep a computer in the house.

Why?

Because, if you’re like me, you probably find yourself spending ALL your time in front of a computer. Whether or not you’re being productive, you’re always preoccupied with your work or your business.

This is not healthy!

There should be a time for work and a time for rest.

If you spend all your time at the computer, even if you’re not being productive, you still FEEL like you’re always working and it makes you sad. You don’t deserve a break. And yet it’s not fair on your family that you’re always in your own little internet world.

Not everyone can afford to take a break though…

Maybe you’re one of those people who turned your business into a really bad paying job.

I HATE Client Work

Tips for those who want to build a REAL business…

You know what’s stupid?

When people call themselves entrepreneurs and yet they have a list of things they DON’T want to do in business.

You know, things that remind them of their job.

Here’s the thing…

You ever hear the saying,

“Successful people don’t focus on the process, they focus on the reward (or goal)”

Well, this is a perfect example of focusing on the process.

Job vs Business…

See, even if you do a very similar set of tasks and duties at your JOB, the goal at your job is different from the goal of your business.

In a job, you are working for a secure monthly income. You’re working to help someone else get rich.

In your business, you are working to conquer the world, scale and do whatever you do 1,000 times better and faster and bigger. And everything you do is 100% for yourself.

Even client work. I know several well-established guru-type entrepreneurs who HATE doing client work. Because it “feels” like a job.

“Well, if you get paid 100% of what you’re doing, you have potential to scale out – unless your plan is to keep doing all the work.”

In fact, freelance client work, as gross as it sounds, is a BEAUTIFUL way to get started in business. It allows you to get intimate with a process that you will ultimately have to delegate to others. In order to do that, you must understand it better than ANYONE; which parts of it can be automated, and who the most skilled employees to do the job are going to be.

You want to be THE BEST and then amplify that with employees who follow your process.

So even though you’re doing what you do at your JOB, your goal is NOT the same as at your job.

It’s to understand what it takes to SCALE, remove yourself from the equation, and make a crap load more money. You’re learning what it takes to convert your most productive 2-hours/day into multiple 2-hour days using the most available resource in the world – the human resource!

If you hate working in your business, then GET OVER IT…

Focus on the right goal. It’s not to exchange your time for dollars. It’s to find out how to get others to exchange THEIR time for dollars while putting money in YOUR bank account.

It’s enough to make you give up on the todo list all together!

Super-secret tip of the day:

So when all else fails, I discovered one technique that works every time.

Break the task up into smaller ones and replace one ugly task with lots of little ugly ones.

Well I did that today, and believe it or not, I actually finished all 8 sub-tasks of this client work this morning.

I’m feeling pretty good.

That’s just one of lots of tricks up my sleeve that I gained after lots of financial loss, business setbacks, experiments, and reading.

No Way! Watching TRUE BLOOD – Tax Deductible

While filing my personal taxes, I looked at the number of hours I worked last year. And even though it felt like I worked super hard, it turns out I put in FOUR hours a day on average!

Got me thinking…

We probably all feel like we slave in our business. Never have any time. Skimp on family stuff. Overdue deadlines…

Pressure’s fierce!

But the only reason it feels like we’re working so hard is – daily commitment ain’t easy.

To actually sit down and find the time every day to do productive work. To turn off the TV, to not do anything else. Routine makes TIME LONG!

“If you knew how many hours you actually worked, you’d LAUGH and wish you’d worked harder.”

You probably spend less time working on your business than watching an episode of True Blood.

So here’s a little tip for you…

– If you don’t have a fulltime book-keeper to keep you honest, maintain a work log yourself with a timer every day.

– Write what you accomplish next to each time-entry.

– And, at the end of 30 days, sum your hours and divide by 30 to find you daily work average.

You’ll be shocked!

Much business gets done in little time when you have a daily routine. Just think what you could accomplish with ONE more hour

One of my favourite hobbies is to create landing pages.

It’s fun because this is where the ‘money getting process’ starts.

Don’t Be Scared!

There are a lot of different tools and website builders. They provide pretty good tutorial videos but it can be scary with coding, HTML, and stuff that makes no sense to normal human beings. It put me off for a long time. Then I finally decided to just dive in. I spent day’s upon days learning, fiddling around with little bits of HTML code.

But what I should have been focused upon is marketing to generate leads. Because alas, after all that time, I grew frustrated and gave up.

You Don’t Need To Learn HTML

A friend of mine built a pretty sleek website and said she used a website builder called Bluevoda. It requires no knowledge of HTML. It’s like using Microsoft Word.

Very easy, and the finished product looks awesome! It’s been my website builder of choice ever since.

Now That You’re Ready To Build

Anybody can create a landing page, but creating one that does what you want it to do is a skill. A valuable skill :)

Knowing what you want it to do is key.

You may think that sounds silly. We know what you want it to do – convert visitors to leads, right? And that is ALL you want it to do! Lots of marketers get this bit wrong. They cram so much information into their landing page that the visitor gets confused, runs away, and keeps their coins with them.

Your page only needs 3 working parts

How Does PPC Tracking Work?

Without PPC tracking your PPC campaign will not survive. You will not make any money, in fact you will lose a lot of money. There are ways to avoid this happening to you.

Pay Per Click (ppc) tracking is essential to any campaign if it’s to be successful. Most of the ppc platforms themselves have decent tracking facilities but there are also external tools, such as Google Analytics, you can use.

Get this wrong and you will LOSE a ton of money; believe me. 😉

It’s important to track everything. The two most important numbers are CTR (click through rate) and sales.

CTR determines how successful your ad is at pulling customers into your site while sales, quite obviously, show you how well you convert visitors to buyers.

So How Does PPC Tracking Work?

Impressions, CTR and CPC (cost per click) are measured inside the ppc platform.

Conversion tracking can be done within most search marketing services or you can use other available software.

For example, tracking inside Google involves placing a cookie on a user’s computer when they click on an ad. If the user clicks on your Google PPC ad, and reaches one of your conversion pages, their browser sends a cookie to the Google server. Then a small conversion tracking image is displayed on your site. When such a match is made, Google records a successful conversion for you.

The ability to see the performance of each keyword is also crucial. This is achieved by producing and closely analysing 2 reports…

The google keyword report (for cost information)

and

Your sales report (from your web analytics tool). In addition, you can tag the keyword destination URL in order to gather even more accurate data. There are other methods which can be used but these are the basics. With this info you can tweak your campaign and target/add converting keywords to your list.

Yes I know,

for the beginner, on the outside looking in, it can seem an extremely complicated process and when you don’t understand it, it is! I have seen countless newbies lured in by the instant traffic and shiny $$$ signs. In their excitement, and without proper understanding, they either don’t get the steps correct or they miss them altogether!

I knew this kid who…

was desperate for leads and didn’t want to spend money to learn. C’mon, that’s a waste of your ad budget right? :) Anyway, he set up his Google account and started driving traffic to his high converting web page; only it didn’t convert very well…

…in fact, it didnt convert at all! The idiot had messed up the tracking code and while he sent a hoard of visitors to his site, over $1000 worth of visitors to be exact, all they got to see was a 404 error!

What A Dumbass, and yes, it was me 😉

Do NOT make the same silly mistakes.

How to manage the main parts of your PPC account so it all works to make you money.

campaign management for ppc marketing is a fancy term for how the account is run. it works by effectively managing the main parts of your ppc account which all work together to achieve the desired outcome. you can do this yourself or pay to have it done by experts. if you choose the latter, do your research before parting with your hard earned $$$.

the 2 secret words to reaching effective campaign management are…

organisation and structure

like DNA, the structure of your ppc account is unique to you and your business. from each campaign right down to the keywords.

how it is structured will be determined by you and the type of business you have.

say for example, you have a sports shop…

campaigns

you could set a campaign for each type of what ya want to advertise. one for jackets, one for trousers, one for shoes, one for camping, and so on.

adgroups

then inside each campaign, you have adgroups. so if your campaign was camping, you could have your adgroups for each thing related to camping that you want to advertise. one for North Face sleeping bag. one for thermal sleeping bag, and so on

dya follow? 😉

keywords

then your keywords are grouped tight for each adgroup, each keyword would be a spin off from the main keyword, such as

  • thermal sleeping bag
  • warm thermal sleeping bag
  • double coated thermal sleeping bag
  • pink fluffy thermal sleeping bag :)

  • 500 campaigns
  • 20,000 adgroups per campaign
  • 5000 keywords per adgroup
  • 3 million keywords per account

plenty to work with huh? 😉

ongoing management is crucial

once you get your account setup and have some ads live, you must watch them like a hawk and be ruthless with what isn’t working. don’t get emotionally attached. it gets deleted :)

say for example you are willing to pay $5 for each lead. if the adgroup (display network) or keyword (search network) has reached a little over that cost without generating a lead, it would get killed from the account. there is waaaaay more stuff that WILL work to be wasting your prescious coins on the shhiiyyaatt that doesn’t.

Will your next Campaign FLOP before it Launches?

Call it beginner’s luck.

Because I’d be lying if i told you i knew what i was doing. I was green as French freakin khaki when my first success in Internet Marketing came!

Right now, there’s a pretty dangerous thing i think you’re doing…which you’ll only find out about after you’ve invested a year of hard work building a business online.

Bear with me a moment…

So even though i was pretty fresh, a top business education company recruited me to manage their traffic on a “low-risk” pay-per-sale basis.

My mathematical background proved handy and dandy.

Within months i was bringing in 90%+ of their sales activity…not by any marketing merit of my own. My ads were lame, but they were adequate.

See most people who know my story don’t know this little secret about me…

 

Although i was labeled the #1 AFFILIATE for that company, i really wasn’t an affiliate at all.

Unlike an affiliate, the company was paying all the advertising costs for me.

They fronted the $10,000/month i was using to advertise on Google and generate over 3,000 leads/month.

They did all the selling. Emails, sales letters, affiliate programming, SEO, and more.

They provided the landing pages i drove traffic to.

They created all the products i was advertising.

They provided all the staff; programmers, copywriters, customer support, and everything else.

Even my sales heavily depended on the company’s well-established reputation in the market…which took millions of dollars and years of work from them before i ever showed up.

All i really did was keep the traffic coming.

Which was a relatively insignificant contribution from me toward the success i enjoyed.

 

Not to be overly assumptive, but i don’t know you personally, so forgive me if i’m wrong…i’ll venture to say i had it easy compared to you.

Chances are you’re a one-man-(or woman)-show.

If i’m right, then you’re taking a HUGE GAMBLE.

Running an online business is not easy. It takes a great number of skilled staff and LARGE financial investment upfront before money starts rolling in.

And if you don’t know this RIGHT NOW, you will find out on your own when it’s too late…sort of like i did.

Your entire year’s work will be rendered useless just because of how LONG it takes you between starting up and being ready to take orders.

Why?

Most business startups don’t have enough finances, time, or skills at their disposal to launch any campaign quickly.

I got lucky…

Shortly after becoming the #1 “affiliate” for that company, they invited me to create a training pogram to add to their product inventory, sharing the strategies i used to get so much traffic.

It took me 3 months of intense labour to create it.

Needless to say, i only have reputation in the market because that product became a HUGE seller.

I believe we sold over 3,000 copies in the launch week … and it was the publisher’s first ever million dollar launch.

But something awful happened within months of the launch.

That product became obsolete and was eventually taken off the market.

Literally, the customers who bought after 6 months could not even see the same screenshots i was displaying … because the traffic platform had changed so drastically.

Not to mention that most of the traffic strategies and techniques i showed no longer worked.

Think about this…

 

Had i produced, published, and marketed that product on my own it would have taken me another 12 months.

By that time, my product would have still become obsolete. Difference would have been, that it wouldn’t have had a chance to make a million buckeroonis.

The “gods” were smiling on me though…

Before i ever wrote the product, the publishing company already had a subscriber base of over 300,000 people, amongst them thousands of existing customers of their other products.

And they had a seller relationship with their subscribers that spanned years before i showed up.

They also had a staff of 50 people skilled in various areas who could put up websites, sales letters, email series, and order pages in DAYS.

We literally launched the product and began taking orders before the product was even complete (let alone uploaded to their servers)!!

All because i combined my product with an existing marketing company’s resources.

Something few online businesses get to enjoy.

Here’s another example…

 

Another product i produced in partnership with a copywriter literally took us TWO YEARS to put in place all the marketing. In fact, we RE-created the product itself three times in that period…and invested 50,000 from our own pockets toward staff and advertising.

And despite our best efforts, some components of the final product became obsolete before the final product was complete.

This is the nature of business online.

It changes fast.

Which is what inspired the “Everything Deal” i began talking to you about last week.

Article “BUM” Marketing and ClickBank – A Documented Journey

A marketing newbie wrote…

 After doing a tonne of research on article marketing (or “bum marketing”), I’ve decided to put this method to use by promoting as many ClickBank products as possible. I have a goal of reaching a sustained $100-$150/day. It’s pretty ambitious I know, but a recent eBook told me that after working hard for 4 weeks straight “and you are not seeing $150 or more a day I will eat my Russian fur hat”. So let’s actually put that to the test!

As I have a tendency to give up on things that don’t quickly produce results, I’ve decided to keep you updated with my progress as a sort of inspiration. At least the proof will be there on whether bum marketing really does work or not.

Keeping a diary and sharing it with your peers is an excellent way to stay motivated. I recommend Liam keep at it.

It paid off.

Liam made his first sale after 9 days using “bum marketing”, which I’ll explain…

Bum Marketing is where you put in a bit of effort in the beginning and get paid automatically after you build some momentum without any additional work.

Affiliates who use this strategy focus on Search Engine Optimisation (free search traffic) sent to article directories. Over time, they start ranking for related searches and get traffic to their articles. Potential customers read them, and then click a small link in the signature of the article to buy.

If you’d like to try the method, you’re going to need to produce a large number of articles that use common search phrases around the product on offer.

The method is simple, but tedious in the beginning.

Rewards, however, are incredible.

There are two problems, however, that Liam faced.

#1. Articles only got traffic for the first 5 days after approval.

#2. No Article received more than 100 views.

 

So what’s the solution?

Keep in mind that a 700 word article on a topic you already know will take at least 20 minutes to produce.

Approval and Ranking in search engines takes TIME.

And an article is only visible on the Article Directory’s home page for a brief window of time, after which fresh article will replace it.

Don’t be daunted by the large number of competing affiliates who promote the same offer in the same directory.

The trick is to produce MORE articles and dominate every long-tail keyword searched for by people who may buy the Clickbank product.

It’s not difficult, just a long tedious process.

I don’t know why, exactly.

Maybe it’s the whole “people want what you can’t have” thing (in my case, I am not currently taking on any client work).

But I’m just not interested in clients right now.

Too little freedom, and too much drama.

In fact, the drama of working for copywriting clients is almost like being Jack Bauer in “24.” You’re trying to do your job (with a VERY tight deadline) and make things happen despite a plethora of people (some with good intentions, others with bad intentions, and some who are flat out trying to sabotage everything) working against you.

And the more fingers in the pie, the worse it is.

There are various ways to charge clients when offering your services to deal with PPC campaigns. It goes without saying that the more work that is involved, the more you are going to charge. You may charge a fee, a $ amount per action or result, an hourly rate or a mix of them. Billing method of choice will depend on your skills and how much you believe in yourself and the ability to get results.

3 in-depth ways to charge for PPC campaigns…

say you wanna charge your clients a flat fee, per month. you will want to charge a one time set-up fee then the monthly fee…

here are some examples of a one time set-up fee

  • PPC setup for a small web site including up to 60 keywords, 10 Ad groups, and 20 adverts = $449 set-up and $100 flat fee
  • PPC setup for medium sized web sites up to 100 keywords, 20 Ad groups, and 40 adverts = $799 set-up and $200 flat fee
  • PPC setup for large and corporate web sites up to 150 keywords, 30 Ad groups, and 100 adverts = $1,299 set-up and $500 flat fee

when deciding upon the monthly fee, you will have to calculate how much of your time will need to be spent. how much do you think your time is worth?

do some research into what your competitors are charging. This will usually range from 5-20% of monthly ad spend.

what about an hourly fee?

charging an hourly fee is probably the most simple. you get paid for the hours you put in. i guess it’s for the ‘play it safe’ type person. I’m not a fan of this method for 2 reasons…

  • there is a limit to the hours you can work
  • companies may not be so keen to out-source to paid by the hour services

if you do choose this method, PPC employees typically make around $45,000 a year plus bonus, so you are looking at around $60,000

the best option?

like, put your money where your mouth is :)

i have always liked paid by results!

the better you are, the more you make. people will chase you for your awesome services and you can charge a premium.

take my buddy jim, you may know him as the traffic guy.

he gets RESULTS.

he won’t work with ya if he thinks he can’t…

he could pretty much charge…

whateva the hell he wants :)

so, if you’re good and you know you get results…

Now by results, we are speaking about, eyeballs on website! you are the traffic dude, NOT the sales conversion dude.

so i wouldnt enter into an agreement where you are paid a % per sale.

why?

well, you could drive hundreds of thousands of people to the website and your client doesn’t make a sale.

the sales funnel may be flawed.

this is NOT your fault.

i would however, expect you to be telling your client that the landing page or sales funnel needs work, and if you can’t do the work, enlist the help of an expert who can.

so, why not charge a set-up fee plus a $ amount per action? something like per lead generated or per 1000 website visitors?

win/win situation right? :)

Isn’t  Article Marketing Dead

Article Marketing for the sole purpose of promoting a product page or gaining rankings in search engines is a delicate process.  Forget everything you thought you knew about article marketing and if your new to the idea then great…you might still have a chance.

Start Content Marketing the Right Way

What you are about to learn is by far a very profitable way to promote your business through the INTERNET.  A plan of action is your ultimate tool and a time frame of 3 to 6 months to start seeing lasting results.

You will waste your time if you’re not fully committed to the process or at least hire someone who is.

Part One: What  you Write makes a difference

Develop a series of topic specific content directly related to the product or service you wish to promote.  Target that content to the customer.  Content written with the user in mind seldom goes unnoticed.  That is  true for how the search engine index pages.

With Millions of pages on-line the major search engines have more then enough data to know when someone is trying to scam the system or promote quality information.

Part Two: Where are your Customers

Location specific content holds a lot of weight.  In your business you should have defined who your customers are and where they are from.  Developing local content helps search engines show more relevant results for people looking for products and services near them.  Remember, just because your business might be conducted On-line doesn’t mean it isn’t local.

Part Three: Expectations

Realistic Expectations about the people searching for the content your creating is a must. Are they really looking to BUY something?  If you want to rank number one for “African Fire Breathing Earthworm” how many people are looking to buy a product related to that search?

That is why part two works very well, because people tend to do more business with local retailers or services.

Part Four: Rankings and Promoting

All this content and no where to put it?  Traditionally people who wanted to promote their site with article marketing were encouraged to do submit their content to Article Directories.  Those are places where thousands of articles are hosted.  Many of these article directories are built for one reason “AD Farming”.  The business of placeing ads on sites based on your content in hopes to being in Ad revenue, and for a while that strategy worked well for the site owners.  Until a group or people confronted the big search engines about playing favorites.

There are places on-line where you can submit your content and not worry about building someone else an income off of ad revenue (you may have heard of the Panda Update).  You want secure, privet, ad free directories.

Tip:

You can build your own privet network for article marketing and make it search engine friendly which builds links to your site.  Really Simple Syndication, or RSS, with some creativity isn’t a bad thing.  As far as duplication goes, forget about it, it won’t harm you unless the content is harmful in the first place.   It’s that simple.

That is only a tiny portion of how you can promote your content which in turn promotes the main site in which you want to rank.

Part Five: Summary

Have an original spot for your high-quality content-rich article.  You can select 2 to 3 key-phrases that you don’t care to rank for but are related to your ranking domain or page and develop the content around those terms.  Point One link back to the main content, this is the validation point for the robots.

Pull out the dictionary and get creative with your writing.  If your selling “Fire Breathing Earthworms from Africa” some key phrases to create promotional content might be “Easy Pets for Kids”, “Cool House Pet”, and “Awesome Anniversary Gift”. Those key-phrases would host content with all kinds of benefits relating to owning an awesome pet like the Fire Breathing Earthworm. With a link pointing back to your main site, and inter links pointing to the other articles you write about it.

Article Marketing isn’t about ranking articles, its about having quality content point to a quality sales page or domain.  The same reason you would want to point to a quality page on your site as well.  Your customer knows when they find junk so don’t let them.
