Gayle was full of energy, she oozed with it.
When I first met her, it took a moment for my brain to register her dialect. Suddenly, I was overwhelmed with a nostalgia one can only feel…for home.
By god it was the rugged sound of a Kiwi accent.
Having grown up in New Zealand and done much of my university education there, I was over the moon. I adjusted my hearing over from the californian english i’d grown accustomed to over the past weeks into a dialect of english spoken in rural new zealand. i couldn’t contain my excitement. She knew it.
I asked. She answered. What of our beloved city? What new slang do they have? What old words from school days that we forgot? Which buildings have come and gone? And on it went.
How strange that I picked to wear my New Zealand “All Blacks” t-shirt that day. Coincidence, i swear. But Gayle was pleased with my pride of New Zealand.
Quickly, one of the boys who knew Gayle’s story filled us in over dinner.
She was no ordinary networker. She’d spent over 100,000 dollars last year following her uplines’ advice trying to grow a residual income. All to no avail. What frustrated Gayle most was that it felt like it was only yesterday when she was a REAL businesswoman. She’d built and sold a highly profitable brick and mortar asset and had done VERY well for herself.
And her family.
So why was this online thing so hard, she wondered.
She flew from New Zealand to find out. Gayle hired me for the day. She also hired my entire PERSONAL mastermind…yeah the guys III personally mastermind with. She brought them on as her own business advisors. And she did NOT want to share us with anyone else.
We prepared for the challenge. After dinner with the gang, we returned Gayle to her hotel where she needed to sleep off jetlag. And we agreed to all meet again at 9.30 the next morning.
I fueled up on a hearty breakfast. I think we all did because we knew it was going to be a long day.
The business-counselling session was to be held in a pretty boardroom. I was in love with the table. It was the coolest boardroom table i’ve ever seen in real life. (admittedly, also the first time i see one)
We closed the room shut behind us and we didn’t break for hours. What happened in that boardroom was nothing short of transformation.
Last night, Gayle arrived in New Zealand and sent me the following message. She said i can share it with you:

Now the reason I shared that letter with you wasn’t to show you how popular i am. It’s just some good ole social proof being craftily used to underline the importance of you listening to me…
I’m always being asked, “How can i generate more leads?”. And since i’m a geek who had no friends in school, i’d start on a long technical explanation of the best traffic sources and which is better for whom…
And i would have wasted my time answering.
Whoever asks this question isn’t making money. Because whoever has actually generated ANY kind of income from their business knows that the traffic method is really irrelevant to whether or not they generate money.
And gurus are keen to exploit these nice guys who are trying to find the magical lead source that all the internet millionaires are keeping to themselves.
It doesn’t matter if they use social media or article marketing, ppc or seo.
Traffic is easy. I got gangs of it they can have.
But no selling sequence? What does that do to one’s business?
Traffic is worthless if you’re not doing something with it. If a marketer doesn’t have a way to turn traffic into buyers, then that marketer can NEVER make money. No matter how long they’ve been working at it. And getting traffic from facebook is as much a waste of time as getting it from ppc or seo or whatever.
I bet you 100 bucks that if you’re frustrated right now with your business and you’re not making the income that you’d like from it, then you don’t have a BASIC funnel setup. Just something that offers a prospect to buy something.
Without a funnel, You don’t have a business.
Unfortunately, I had no idea that was where most people were hung up. Until I got together with Gayle, Synthia, Matthew, and others who joined me recently in mastermind and coaching sessions.
The thing is, that stuff isn’t that hard. But for many students i’ve worked with, it has been the most difficult thing to do alone. A couple of days with me and my guys you’ll have a funnel up lickity spit.
That’s all we did with Gayle. The information she had been keeping herself busy absorbing was just holding her back in perfection land. We helped her find a unique selling proposition of her own and a message to turn a potential prospect into a sale. After that, it was a matter of a few hours for me to build her a simple traffic campaign, for her to record a video for the landing page and upload it to YouTube, and to get our web guy to throw together an application form to qualify the sale.
We wrapped up for the night. Stuffed our starved faces on cheese nachos from the hotel restaraunt. And conked out.
The next day’s results were a shock even to me.
I mean, I knew we’d get SOME traffic. I just didn’t think it would be in that much volume nor for that cheap. Her landing page converted higher than anything i’ve ever seen–honestly, i think it was how she connected with the prospect.
In less than 24 hours, she had nearly 50 home business leads for less than 30 cents each. You know what though?
Gayle could have spent months trying to learn and implement all the copywriting, technical, and traffic secrets…but what for? Her first try is already outperforming the traffic of some of the industry’s top producers.
Ask yourself…does your business have a clear path that allows a prospect to move from being just a viewer of your ad to a buyer of your product? If that’s not there, don’t buy another training product. Don’t listen to another training call.
