What IS it with marketers and this Facebook craze?

What part of “it doesn’t work” don’t you get?!


It’s not like I’m one of those people who just hates a thing for the sake of hating it.

I was one of the first marketers to use Facebook PPC very profitably.

I invented the two-step landing page which finally allowed marketers to get leads from Facebook. Before then, its PPC was just an expensive way to get “likes”.

I even invented a Twitter PPC strategy two years ago which went seriously viral.

My social media methods are being used today to rank articles on the front pages of social websites.

I was the one who propagated the Twitter share plugin on WordPress in the IM market (and even was a code contributor to Tweetmeme years ago – you’ll find a tiny credit to me in the source).

I invented the Dynamic Keyword insertion code on landing pages with PHP.

Trust me, if there’s a place you can get traffic, I’ve found a way to make it work.

But for some strange reason, I’m an evangelist for Search-Based PPC.

Ever wonder why?

I’ll show you…

A few months back, we started to promote a WeightLosss eBook on Facebook.

It’s easy enough we thought–plus Facebook is fun, and you can target the “over-weight middle-aged woman” demographic easily.

And although at the time, most of our sales came from our Facebook traffic, we couldn’t get a decent ROI.

Shortly after, we paused our Facebook ads and ran a test for a month using a single email to a Rented Email list of women. Not overweight women, not middle-aged women… just “women”.


We broke even in 7-days flat.

We never used Facebook again.

I ran a similar experiment with an Internet Marketing product shortly after.

Facebook converted like crap.

Google Adwords was profitable.


Facebook is a SOCIAL environment, not a sales one.

So unless you’ve got big boobs and blonde hair, you’ll never get your favourite Social Media “Queen’s” results.

…and the point is?

I know what you want is to get traffic tips about social media…but I’m not going to give them to you.

With all due respect, you aren’t the expert on traffic. We are.

So I’ll tell you what I think you NEED. I don’t want to sell to the masses…I just want to sell to the few people who are smart enough to agree with me: Social Media SUCKS for marketing.
